You know, I really like Cung Le; both as a person and as a fighter. I really, really do, but him taking so much time off is completely inexcusable. There have been plenty of guys he could have fought by now, but he just never stepped up to the plate.
Robbie Lawler before his fight with Jake Shields is a perfect example. EliteXC Middleweight Champion vs. Strikeforce Middleweight Champion. It had all the makings of a classic. Who doesn't want to see a fight to determine an undisputed champion, especially when it's going to be a stand up war like those two would've undoubtedly had? But Le never took the fight, even though he would have destroyed Lawler.
Nick Diaz last Spring moves up to 180 and fights Frank Shamrock, and beats the living hell out of him. Three times harder than Le did, in fact. Diaz should have gotten a title shot right after that, but Le wanted no part of him. That same night Diaz and Shamrock fought, Le was harping that there is no one for him to fight except for Shamrock, if he won. Well, he didn't win, but Diaz did and did so impressively. Why didn't Le step up then and demand to fight Nick Diaz and show everyone he's up there with Anderson Silva as the best Middleweight fighter in the World? Because the guy just dodges fights, that's why.
And then when Shields defeated Lawler like he was nothing, he straight up challenged Le to a fight for the Strikeforce Middleweight Championship. Did Le except? Nope. We never heard a thing from that motherfucker.
Now, all of the sudden, Shields and Mayhem have to fight each other to get a shot at Le. Give me a fucking break. Both of those guys are more worthy of holding that championship than Le is as far as I'm concerned. And hell, who's to say Le will even fight the winner? Thinking about it... I highly doubt he does. He'll just dodge it, or retire. Either way, like I said... I really like the guy, but he's a sad excuse of a champion.
