Crossovers: Forays In To Sport

NSL

Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
I'm surprised this is my first Crossovers thread in the Sports section. In case you haven't seen any of the other Crossovers, I want to Jay-Z buying a piece of the Nets, or even Bonaduce becoming a wannabe boxer/wrestler.

My personal favorite, is purely for sentimental reasons. Billy Crystal getting an at-bat for the Yankees was truly classic to see. He was in his 60's, and got the 1-day contract as a favor from the owners. No one, including him, expected anything, and he actually fought off a few pitches, and ended up putting the ball in play.

Another one I liked, was Staubach and Aikman opening Hall Of Fame Racing in NASCAR. It was the first team that had a legitimate contender, and even ended up with a pretty good sponsor, and some TV commercials. They're just about defunct now, but they had a few decent seasons on the circuit. It was a better attempt that Dan Marino's team, and made a bigger splash quicker than Randy Moss's truck team.

I'm not a huge Yankee fan or anything, and not a big Billy Crystal guy either but that was awesome. Him being a New York guy, that was just an awesome moment. Imagine how cool that would be. Especially with a team that prestigious! My team is the St. Louis Cardinals, and while we have a pretty decent amount of history it would be amazing. Then think about doing that for the Yankees. Wearing the pinstripes. Wow. He even hit a foul ball, and I think that is pretty awesome. Another example of a guy getting signed in spring training is Garth Brooks. While I hate country music, it's still pretty awesome that almost each spring training he gets signed to a contract and gets a few at bats for different teams.

With the HOF Racing team, its not really defunct. Like many NASCAR teams this year, they had to merge with another team. They went to Yates racing. Bobby Labonte is their driver this year. And like you said, he has pretty good sponsorship with Ask.com. They sponsor different spots on Fox during the races. But I'm really blank when it comes to other people venturing into sports. I can really only think of your examples and Brock Lesnar going to the Vikes, but we saw how good that one worked out! ;)
