Conquistadors or Moondogs??

Hey guys, a little earlier i was reading a thread about Paul Roma, and it got me thinking about wrestling in the 80's, unlike today's wrestling, there were superstars made to succeed and there were stars made to job for people, that included the tag team division, and in my opinion, the WWF drop the ball with two tag teams, The Moondogs and the Conquistadors, ok, i know they weren't the most athletic build superstars, or intimidating, or with a big muscular phisyque, but then again, how many muscular, or intimidating or athletic superstars have failed? A lot, case in point, Mason Ryan, Mike Knox, Luke Gallows, Tensai, the list goes on, anyway, back to the point, i think that with the right booking, or a good manager, one of these two teams, or both could have been a good team, probably even tag team champions, both teams got into a few high profile matches, i remember the moondogs having a match against Hulk Hogan and Mr. Wonderfull, and it was very good, and i also remember that i went to a WWF live Show in San Diego and in that venue i saw a match between the British Bulldogs who were very over at the time against the Conquistadors, and that match was by far my favorite of the night, despite the fact that the card had a killer main event with six very over guys at the time also, it was the Macho Man and Strike Force (Tito Santana and Rick Martell, Tag Team champs at the time) vs The Honky Tonk Man and The Hart Foundation, i remember that even the Conquistadors had a great ovation after the Bulldogs left the ring, that's why i think that these two teams despite being made by the WWF to job, they had potential to be much more than just jobbers, what do you guys think??

The Moondogs may not have been over in WWF, but they were huge in the Memphis territory prior to that time. They had some historic feuds with The Fabulous Ones, Steve Keirn and Stan Lane, and with Jerry Lawler and Jeff Jarrett. In fact, I think their feud with Lawler & Jarrett was "Feud of the Year" by something like Pro Wresting Illustrated (could be something else, it's been 20 years or so). The ball may have been dropped in WWF, but it wasn't dropped everywhere.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't The Moondogs WWF tag champion in like 1981...maybe 1983 under Captain Lou Albano? I think it was for a few months...but it definitly gives shows they were more than jobbers for at least a few months...then they kind of fell into the jobber catagory...but you have to give credit where credit is due I suppose...

The original Los Conquistadores were created in 1987 and consisted of José Estrada (Sr.) and José Luis Rivera. Edge & Christian impersonated Los Conquistadors during the early 2000s when they were competing with the Dudley Boys and the Hardy Boyz. Matt & Jeff also impersonated them during the feud.

The Moondogs did hold the WWF Tag Team titles from March 1981 - July 1981. This doesn't necessarily make them "not jobbers," it just means they held relevance at one time. They actually beat Tony Garea and Rick Martel for the titles and then lost the titles back to them.

Oh and you aren't the oldest one in the forums at 29, I am 30 and even though that's at most a year older, it sill makes me older. Also I have heard of these teams, then again I have been a wrestling fan since the 1980s so, there.

Ok, being a decade older than the apparent 'oldest guy here', let me chime in for a sec...

Most people who remember the Moondogs probably do remember them from when they were better than average jobbers on Superstars and Wrestling Challenge. The thing they don't realize though, is the better than average jobbers all used to be stars in the WWF a few years earlier prior to VKM's expansion. The same goes for the likes of Iron Mike Sharpe, Tony Garea, The Duke of Dorchester, ect.

The Moondogs absolutely used to be WWF tag team champions in the early 80's, and were a great act in the territories. They had good careers, and the gimmick should be remembered better than when Spot was jobbing out on TV at the end of his WWF run.

The Conquistedors... were only ever a job team. They created them to make tag matches on TV look more meaningful than when they threw together random job guy A together with a Dusty Wolfe. If I remember right, it wouldn't always even be the same two guys under the hood and body suits either.

The Moondogs were absolutely the better team... better gimmick... better everything. Their work was very similar to pre-WWF Bushwackers (Sheepherders).

The Moondogs like everyone has said had success, and then became jobbers late in their career. I always liked their look and as a younger fan when they were jobbing never really got to see them in there prime. The Conquistadors were only ever a jobber team, and I most remember them as the last team left in the ring when The Powers of Pain and Demolition had their double turn at Survivor Series. The Moondogs were most definitely the better team of the two.
