Again it would be fine if Cole was a color commentator or something, but he's not he remains to be WWE's head play-by-play commentator, and in that role you should always maintain a face persona. Jim Ross for his entire time as a head commentator played the role of face, Vince McMahon and Gorilla Monsoon even. So why does Cole get to be the first play-by-play guinea pig when it should happen to begin with? Oh yea it's because he gets booed anyway.
But who else could fill the role?, most play-by-play guys that attempted to fill Ross's shoes ended up either quitting or being removed from the position.
Cole is the only choice to take the job but the fact is he can't, without this transition he cannot be seen as a play-by-play announcer by anyone , so if he's getting boo'd why not just have him in that role.
And as for Vince, he can't do commentary, that's the reason he bullies the rest for it, Foley even professed that even though Vince is a nice guy, he's a total ass on the headset.
The truth is Spood, Cole is not the logical choice, he's the only choice and I for one love to see his character develope the way it has been, it may not be the definition of play-by-play, but it works.
It's no so much that he replaced Jim Ross, it's the fact that not only did he take his place on television but he did it while not being that great of a commentator. No matter how much he screams, yells, or even heckles e always seems to portray himself as a man whose just going through the motions. There seems to be a lack of passion from the commentary of Michael Cole. It also doesn't help when he botches almost regularly behind the desk as well. These are some of the many reasons why most fans dislike the man as much as they do.
Most of the hatred stem's from the fact that he took JR's job, look at it this way, I for one hate to see JR get the shaft but there is no other option, it's not just looks, bells pausey can also hurt your speech, and JR has had the condition all his life, he keeps getting worse as the years keep progressing so Vince had no other choice but to replace his investment and move onto someone younger, it's sad, but true.
Which is odd considering thats the one thing a commentary team didn't use for contrast until now. King gets cheered no matter what, so it's logical he would remain a face but Cole the guy who use to have mega orgasms over all faces suddenly turns a bit towards the dark side? The only logical reason I can think of for this sudden occurrence is because the man gets booed constantly no matter what he does.
King could urinate over a Diva and still get face heat, he could take a dump on a cancer patient and will still get cheered, the fans love the guy, so the best idea is to turn Cole heel, he's getting boo'd more and more by the fans, so why not?.
Remember it's wrestling after all, it's not like Cole would have been a logical face anywho.
Again do you think it makes sense for WWE's play-by-play guy who calls and puts over the action we see in the ring to make a full heel turn and put more emphasis on his own character? Thats not really what they're supposed to be doing and it's probably the reasons it's never been done before now.
Why shouldn't they do it?, it shakes things up, it changes the whole dynamic, WWE is all about change, experimenting with characters in hopes that something will work, Cole's change is working, the guy is white hot at the moment, you could place him with a heel and automatically get the guy over and that's the great thing about his development.
Styles works for the website currently wouldn't that mean he would be under some kind of contract with WWE? I would welcome Styles to rejoin the both not only on NXT but RAW too. In fact his one and only run on RAW he was very underutilized in my humbled opinion. So in a dream world I would love to see Joey behind as main announcer's desk once again.
He has two contracts like most WWE employee's, he has a talent contract (which was not renewed), and a contract for his internet media role, now that his talent contract has expired Vince would need to get him signed prior to appearing on tv again, It just doesn't seem logical at this point.
Cole coming back to the show will happen. Mark my words on that, he will be back disrupting the program as early as next week's broadcast of NXT. So unfortunately the show won't be completely rid of him
The show is one big experiment, having Cole disrupt the show is a way to test his heel status, see if it works, and if it doesn't they can always add a greenhorn to the commentary team, someone like Byran Saxton for instance.
