Overrated depends on a consensus. If the majority of people think that this person is of a certain caliber, then it's not overrating the person.

The definition of overrated is to overestimate or appraise too highly. However, if the general consensus is that this person belongs "here," then that's where this person belongs. Because rating someone is objective to begin with.
This statement is dead wrong, correct?

I don't think a consensus matters at all. Nothing can be defined as being literally over rated. Just because more people think it's over rated doesn't mean it is. It's all objective.

Yeah I'm not adding anything. Disregard.

No, but in order to use the exact same logic to "prove" the statement wrong, you do need a consensus.

The logic is flawed. I don't care about consensus as much as I'm interested in what WZ's other learned scholars have to say on the matter.

The statement in question is clearly incorrect. And I find it interesting and slightly ironic to see the person raising the question in the first place.

It wasn't a shot at anyone, he was simply pointing out the irony in the situation. The majority of people here are saying consensus doesn't matter as they reach a consensus. It's kind of funny, but it's not really the same thing as we're discussing definitions, not whether or not something is overrated.

Well that's all nice and cuddly, but that's not what he said. Where are you getting that from?

This.

Dude, I don't even know where I'm going with this. I was just trying to diffuse a situation that may or may not have needed diffusing by pointing out the slight irony in the context of the original post.
