Police found the decomposing bodies of the 18-month-old boy and girl on Monday night in the cot they shared in a rented house in Sunnybank Hills.

They had been dead for up to nine days.

Prosecutors added the new charges of two counts each of murder and torture when the twins' 30-year-old mother and 28-year-old father couple sought bail in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The couple will still face the original charges of failing to provide the necessities of life.

The pair were remanded in custody.

They are expected to remain in custody until a court mention on August 4, but could seek Supreme Court bail before then.

The new charges were laid following autopsies on the bodies of the toddlers.

A suppression order briefly imposed on reporting of the case was lifted on Thursday afternoon, following a challenge by media organisations.

No further details of the case were outlined on Thursday, with much of the court hearing taken up with legal argument over the suppression order.

The twins' older sister, 11, and three older brothers, aged three, four and five, are now in the care of their grandmother.

Neighbours reported that some of the siblings had turned up on their doorstep hungry and naked.

Education and child safety authorities have confirmed they had been in contact with the family in recent years.

The older children had missed school classes but were not considered to be at risk.

The Child Safety Department said the family had been reported to it before the twins were born, but no evidence had been found requiring action.

Premier Anna Bligh, who returned from a United States trade mission on Thursday, said it did not appear authorities could have done anything to prevent the incident.

"But obviously we'll be looking to see what contact, if any, the family had with any government agency,"

"It's a very timely reminder, I think, to reach out a helping hand to our neighbours if we see them in trouble."

There Has been way to many Child murder's like this one nowdays, Frankly i find this revolting. Killing anyone is bad enough But when it is kid's that young that didnt get asked to be born then get killed before they where old enough to even walk, is down right disgusting. I do not think that a prison sentance is bad enough for some one like these parent's. I think they deserve much More, People like these are up there with Racist's and Peodophile's. How could someone kill any body that cant even stand to protect themselves? Do you think That a prison sentance is enough for someone like this or do you like me beliave a stronger punishment is in order?
I strongly disagree with the Death Sentance i think it is the easiest punishment, I think People like these deserve to "Rot In Hell" but not straight away. But i cant for the life of me think of a suitable Punishment. What are your Ideas?

Almost half of murders are committed by a family member. Half of those again are by parents. It's just the way it is. People snap. Most the time it's for a couple of minutes. So you snap in front of the people that are closest to you. You don't do it in the middle of the street because your usually concentrating on something. Where at home you might be sitting at home, thinking. It's just the way it goes.

Depressed people shouldn't bottle it up inside. Because it'll get to them. And this is the kind of thing that happens.

I hate people who murder, regardless of who it is. Child murder seems worse but they're all as bad as one another. I really hate people who do things like this. I don't give a shit how stressed you were about something, I don't care if you were provoked by a fucking child, I don't even care if they asked you to hit them with something. They're a child, and people need to realise that.

How anyone could ever kill any member of their family who were innocent I could understand. Revenge killing I'm iffy about, for example if my dad had molested a child of mine, I'd not think twice about killing him if I had the chance. I'm sorry, but it's true. However, a child is a different matter. All kids are naughty at some point, but that doesn't mean they deserve to be killed.

Death penalty. A life for a life . I know there are many issues around that, making it highly unlikely it'd ever be a possibility, but I can't think of anything quite to make up for what they have done. Get them of the planet, they don't deserve life. But make sure you use their organs to help those on the organ donation list first.

I agree with some of what Jake said, but it's not always spur of the moment.

The case of Nixmary Brown here in NY actually had me crying on the subway, and I consider myself pretty macho. I was actually in tears for that poor little girl, left locked in a closet to shit on the floor, and then beaten to death because she took a snack from the fridge.

This girl was tortured for months. It wasn't a Benoit-like case of just losing it, even though that's not an excuse.

The problem is that there are so many benefits/tax breaks when you've got a kid. I firmly believe that some lowlife parents see these children as living checks, and that's why they have them.

I cannot imagine how a mother could do this. I used to have a dog I loved. I raised him from a puppy and taught him tricks and watched him grow.

The comparison is this. A woman has this body growing inside her. It is being nurished by her body, is part of her soul.

How on Earth can you hurt that child, and, more importantly, how can you allow some scumbag boyfriend to hurt that child?

I'm not putting all the blame on moms here. You're a father. That child is half of you, was created from your body. How can you not feel a bond that prevents you from ever hurting that child.

You didn't hear about this shit years ago, at least not as much. Your answer, Becca, is that society is crumbling. You're young, so you may live to see the ultimate collapse.

I firmly believe it is coming. I'm talking about the worst parts of the Bible. People are broke. People are stressed. There's war, murder and genocide like never before, and it's just the tip of the iceburg.

It's only going to get worse. I'm only 30, and I sincerely hope I'm dead before the shit really hits the fan.

I feel sick when ever I hear something like that. I remember a couple of years ago here in Ohio there was a kid named Marcus Fiesel. One day I was watching TV and Isaw an Amber Alert for him. The mom had a bunch of press conferences saying how he was taken while he was at the park. It turns out that later they found out he was put in a heavy blanket, tied with ropes, left with no food while locked in a closet. Turns out the mom and dad always did that whenever they left. This time they were gone for a few days. They went to a family reunion.

People like this should have a life sentence with a strait jacket locked in a tiny cell.
