CelticFC Legend Tommy Burns has died

Tommy Burns former footballer, manager and coach has today on 15 May 2008, aged 51.

In total, he made 352 league appearances and scored 52 goals.

He played for Celtic and internationally for Scotland, playing in the midfield he preferred to concentrate on set pieces and accurate passing and dribbling rather than power or shot taking due to his size.

Tommy Burns Managed Celtic and Kilmarnock and was an assistant manager for Scotland after his playing days. He got Kilmarnock promoted from the first division in 93 and won Celtic the Scottish cup in 95. Although His Celtic team could never break the dominance of Old Firm Rivals Rangers FC in the league. He was sacked and became assistant manager for a few teams then in 2002 became assistant manager to Scotland. He was invited back to Celtic as a youth coach and then was made First Team coach, in 2007 he took on full time his position at the club.


He was born in Glasgows East end in the church that is widely recognised as the birth place of Celtic FC, St. Mary's Church hall on East Rose Street (now Forbes Street).

Tommy was a deeply religious person and frequently visited St Mary's Church. He loved his family and was a Celtic fanatic devoting most of his life to the club.

Rather than be remembered for his managerial skills or his footballing he will be remembered as a Celtic Legend who will have his name cemented in the clubs history as one of its top men.

He died from skin cancer having received treatment in 2006 but it wasnt until 2008 it needed treatment again, he died before he could receive treatment.
