So with Capitol Punishment this weekend I can't help but think of WCW's Capital Combat. Ok, in the interest of full disclosure, I never saw the whole thing of Capital Combat, I was rather young and only saw highlights on tv and in PWI. For some reason though, this was a wcw ppv that stuck out to me, partly because it was one of the first I remember even hearing about when I first learned of WCW and 2 the Robocop thing was so weird and random that it just stands out in my head. Now, since CP hasn't happened yet and I'm just comparing the cards on paper I think it's a fair deal. I just think this will get a good discussion on the talent on each roster and the strength of each card irrespective of how CC actually played out (though if ppl do remember it, please chime in).

Here is the card from Capital Combat

The WCW card to me is stronger on both talent level and quality of match ups. I can't see Show and Del Rio putting on much of a match or Wade and Zeke. Miz and Riley has potential to be entertaining, but far from a technical masterpiece. Orton Christian have some good chemistry and can put on a good match (even though I hate orton these days). Cena Truth will hardly be a good match, and I think Koif Dolph could have the second best match on the card behind christian and orton.

As for the WCW card every match had a future hall of famer in it. The card was stacked with talent with both great tag teams and single wrestlers. Had it not been for the corny stuff with robocop, I don't even think it'd be a competition between the two. Also this card had a match between a very young Undertaker and Johnny Ace (I didn't know about this one till I saw the card, though I also didn't know Doink was in the first Mania ha)

I don't know if it's really fair to compare when we already know where all those guys career's in Capitol Combat went and how good they really are (in terms of looking at it on paper).

But Capitol Punishment also is a very interesting card since it's the first time in a long time that WWE has had not even ONE gimmick match.

fair enough... though I'd say even at that time I was pretty excited about most of the talent on that card. Guys like Luger and Flair were already established and we knew how good they were and arguably the same can be said for all of the talent on that card (with the exception of taker and ace). Teams like the steiners, road warriors, SST, and Doom were all established commodities in the industry having come up through various promotions.

You are right about CP though I hadn't noticed the lack of a gimmick match, it really is about time and I think that will ultimately help the in ring product.

I will be attending Capitol Punishment. The fact that there are no gimmick matches or even tag team matches or triple threats... Is defenitly strange.

I kinda like it in a way but at the same time if I got to the arena and saw a steel cage hanging from the rafters I would be excited.

A surprise steel cage match would be pretty cool.

Capitol Combat has the stronger card.. Heck, it's probably better then some of the WrestleManias..

It's not really fair to compare 2 events, one which hasn't even happened and the other which did happen 20 years ago when Wrestling was actually THE BOMB!!

I think Doom vs. Steiners would piss on any tag match that has happened in the past 5 years!..

CM Punk vs. Mysterio should be good because we have seen it happen before and it was a good series of matches they put on, also Christian/Orton, even though we're keep seeing it, Should be a good encounter, Cena/Truth, which I think will be the main event, won't be anything good, I think Truth is better in-ring than Cena.. Riley/Miz, this match won't really flash for me..
