Can Somebody Recommend A PC Controller

Alex

King Of The Wasteland
I want to get a controller for my PC so I can play some games I've got on emulators. Has anyone got any suggestions.

A corded Xbox 360 controller is what I use. Must be a standard corded controller, the wireless one with the charging cable won't work.

Xpadder is a decent program for setting up the controller if your emulators won't work with it.

Wired Xbox controllers. Hands down. DO NOT try to spend time getting a PS3 controller working. It requires frustrating mapping that almost always needs to be tweaked - just one more application that needs to be running if processor power is something you're worried about.

For whatever reason - I'm guessing affiliation with Microsoft - XBox controllers work perfectly for PC and are (usually) ready to plug-and-play right out of the box, pending a simple automatic driver installation.

XBox brand makes the most sense, but they can be expensive. THere are decent Madcats controllers out there, but not many. Just go to a game shop and play around with a few of them. The important thing, if you go the 3rd party route, is that it feels good in your hands and the buttons are responsive. I just bought a Madcats controller for like $15 that has really grips, and I'm digging the placement of the shoulder pads.

...People still use MadCatz products? My God.....

I have never used any of their horrendously manufactured products ever since I used one of their mega memory cards for my PS1 and the memory card suddenly died, and along with it some major saves I had for a plethora of games.

Can I use a wireless Xbox controller through the charger cable at all??

The most you will be able to do with it is charge your controller. Which is the intended design for those things anyway.

Personally I just use the standard pc/mouse when I play emulators. Granted the keyboard makes trying to play Orciana of Time a bitch.

There are wireless xbox controllers that you can use for your PC. You can find them at Best Buy or any sort of electronic store and they are sold with a wireless dongle so that your controller can actually connect to the PC. I am unsure whether you can just buy the wireless dongle and use it with your standard controller though.

The wireless controller with dongle will cost you around $60.

....dongle....

Unless it if for Windows, no. I tried using my 360 controller with the charger cable and all it did was charge the controller and turn my Xbox on.

The Xbox 360 controller for Windows is an excellent choice. They did a great job for making that a solid controller. Be careful what you buy, some PC controllers flat out suck ass. I got a FFIV controller that didn't even work.
