Bring back the old promo videos

Dark Match Winner
You know what would be great? If the WWE bought back those old Promo videos hyping PPV matches. Some of you may remember them; the height of them was just before the attitude era started.

I always thought they gave feuds more realism. It made the match seem more like a real fight,as compared to now, where the promos vids almost make it like a movie. I would love to see this type of promo done for the Jericho Mysterio feud, as i think it would workl perfect for that.

The WWE never seems to do promo videos anymore. The only time I ever see one is when they are getting ready to introduce a new superstar.

I've always said that they needed to do a few with Kofi Kingston to build his character. Shoot some promo vids of him in Jamaica or something, showing where he's come from, his hometown...telling a story...just SOMETHING to build his character. Cause he's a star in the making but they are not doing anything to improve his character at all.

If you remember, they did do that with Kofi before he arrived. There were promo videos of him on the beach talking about his easy-going lifestyle and such.

Do you mean the old stand-ups where the guy was by himself on screen talking, or with an interviewer (like the old Hogan/Mean Gean and Savage/Mean Gean promos)? They do short interviews backstage from time to time. Or do you mean video packages like that YouTube link? They still do those all the time.

As far as the stand-up promos they used to do, I don't see those coming back. I loved them (Hogan, the Warrior and Macho Man were the kings), but they're not focusing as much on character development right now (obviously).

The reason that its not really done much anymore is because there arent many guys that can make a good promo without someone there to help them along. Also they don't do any shows anymore like wrestling challenge that were just a recap/hype show. Now all of the interview hype is done backstage or in the ring and its not necesarily a bad move. This way gets the fans at the arena into that part of the show as well

I agree 100% this allows the wrestler to really work on what they have to say. Because it isn't live. Nor is it in front of 10,000+ people. Some of the best promos in recent memory I have heard, were off the titantron. You remember when they teased us with The Rock about a year ago through the titantron? That was great.

Basically the best part about a video promo is, there can be retakes. The professionals of the business can show you some pointers in how to really get the croud eating out of the palm of your hand. Some people aren't naturals and I do believe this will really make things work a lot better. When making a speach, no matter how much you practice and think you know what you're going to say. Sometimes, you get tounge tied, and have to improvise. When in front of a live croud like the wrestlers do, I can see the trouble that a superstar may have in the making of a promo. Video Promos, take that kind of thing out, they allow the promo to be more fluent, while stating possibly the exact same thing they want you to see out in the live croud. With no mistakes.

Another great thing about the video promos is the fact that it can promote a superstar's finisher to be more dominant. Remember when Brock debuted? Paul-e had video promos coming out the arse on him. He is easily the most over superstar in such a short amount of time that I have ever seen. It made the F-5 look 10x as dominating as it actually was. Say they wanted to promote a superstar's normally weak looking finisher, and make it look way stronger. Using a video promo would do just the thing. Like, Koslov, if it were me. I'd have a video promo of him just headbutting weak walls to crack them down. That way they can say "OMFG His head cracks walls, just think of what thats doing to that mans ribs!"

As allready mentioned, it can also promote an up and coming superstar. While, I don't really like this because it can seriously fall badly if the Superstar drops the ball. I.e The Highlanders. But when they show up, and live up to expectations it shoots a superstar's career way faster than a superstar trying to get over on his own. I.e Kofi Kingston. I remember when he debuted on RAW. I was very excited and ready to see some huge things out of thise young superstar. Simply because of all the titantron promos, videos, etc they were doing for him to put him so much more over than he would have normally been. So in conclution yes, Titantron promos. FTW!

Are you serious?
Those old promos were bad. It had Michael Cole or whoever doing the voiceovers and spouting a load of cheesy lines to give the illusion that the promo is epic. Why the hell do feuds need a narrator? The fans aren't idiots. They don't want the feud to be re-told to them in a quick 2 minutes video. They want to see the best bits of the feuds. The definind moments of the feud, the attacks, the promos, the key moments.

The promos we see now are superb. We don't hear a stupid voice over with their over thought script. We hear clips of the commentators who said those things live during those moments of the feuds.

Look at the promo vid you posted, then look at this one:

Look how epic that is. How pumped it gets you for the match. These modern promos are so much better.

Those were pretty bad back in the early 90's. Warrior would shake a lot as if he was having a seizure and then spit into the camera as he talked. I think it made the whole thing seem more campy, and less entertaining. The only bright side about back then, they did have fewer injuries since there did seem to be a lot fewer ppv's and main event matches. The only plus about all of the injuries these days, it does allow someone else to shine for a bit. But that should be able to be done without having an injury.

man that survivor series promo was the shit. i cant see wwe ever getting back to that level, not in my life time anyway
