Anyone seen Lashleys new submission finisher - the dragon sleeper? It looks pretty effective and has probably been implemented into his moves list for him to use at BFG seeing as it is a submission match with Samoa Joe. Really unique submission move no one else uses. Thoughts?

Its not really unique...A lot of people use it, just not as a finisher. they also use it correctly. Using it in a standing position does nothing but stretch out their back, where if he fell to the mat, it would actually torque their neck, and turn it into a finisher. He could even drop to a knee, as Ultimo Dragon did, and it would be a lot more effective, and actually look like it.

I was kind of pissed they gave him that finisher. I understand a submission move makes sense because of his MMA background, but make it one you might actually see there. There's plenty of nasty finishers he could have used that would look better.

no one currently uses it, but it's a widely used move. it was Ultimo Dragon's finisher. i hate the thought of giving Lashley a finisher, i really hate them giving him that finisher. with his MMA thing, Lashley should be beating the other guy into submission. that would give Lashley way way more "credibility" in TNA than a submission.

I like the move. I think it ties in with his whole MMA thing very well.

I remember Dan Severn and Owen Hart using that move in late 1998 when Owen Hart was fueding with Ken Shamrock for their dungeon match at fully loaded 1998 and then their lyons den match at SummerSlam 1998.

I like that they're giving Lashley a submission finisher. Since he's in a submission match with Joe, he needs something instead of just looking like a huge muscle-bound brawler. Joe has The (Kokina) Clutch. And the dragon sleeper has been used a lot in the past, like the aforementioned Ultimo Dragon, Dan Severn & Owen Hart. Even The Undertaker used it for a while. The move doesn't look like much, but put into the right hands and used in the proper technique, it could look pretty good.

I agree that I don't like them using the Dragon Sleeper, Taker also used it for awhile before he switched it to his Hells Gate Submission. I understand them wanting to use a submission for the submission match as you really can't just beat the guy into submission as it would lose credibility of the match plus for the most part MMA fighters don't usually tap out from getting punched to much as the referee usually stops it, I watch MMA (a lot and almost as much as wrestling) and have seen maybe one fighter tap out from taking too many punches and it was no name fighter that I haven't seen since. But they could've used an arm bar, knee bar, triangle choke, or if they really wanted to put over is MMA thing then they could've used a Chimora which nobody in wrestling uses and that one would be a fresh submission that would tie in his MMA thing. Also I took into consideration that those moves are real submissions and someone might get hurt but they are professionals that should not make a difference as we can see with the sleeper/rear naked choke, I don't think anyone in wrestling has really passed out from the sleeper even though if done incorrectly could really put someone sleep.

The Dragon Sleeper? WTF!?! I mean yeah it's nice for him to have a new move, buy that move? That and he's pursuing an MMA career. Why not let him just beat the hell out of his opponent until they give up!?!

I like the Dragon Sleeper and he sells it very well. I mean it looks brutal and its way better then using an MMA move like in armbar cause lets face it you do not get out of a real armbar. So i like the new move and it works great if he is going to have a submission match vs samoa joe.

Of course he sells it well...He's the size of a Panzer. I don't see how it looks brutal though. His opponent is usually barely bent backwards at all, and you can see breathing room between their head and his arm. He's barely holding them at all. That's the point of dropping to a knee, or falling all the way to the mat. If you're not pulling on their neck, you're not applying pressure, and they can stand there forever, waiting for you to let go.

That's why an armbar would work for him, he doesn't sell the dragon sleeper very well and unless you get to the ropes the armbar, or any MMA submission move, would be the perfect end all submission for him, and they could think of different way of applying the hold. Or they could do something where they give him multiple submission moves which would be awesome rather than the usual one move finisher/submission. Plus it could add a whole other aspect to his moveset. Also it's not very exciting to have two wrestlers that have essentially the same submission, both submissions choke out their opponent.

I think it's fine. It looks painful enough for people that don't put a lot of thought into it and it's not like Lashley lacks the muscles to make it look good. It's something that is used sparingly which at least to me makes it look like something that is only used by a submissions expert. Granted I may be reading too much into it. It goes with the MMA aspect at least to an extent, so why not? It's not like it's terrible.

As far as a Dragon Sleeper as a MMA move, highly unlikely. It would have to involve a rear mount with the opponent not fighting back at all.

As a wrestling move, it works for someone technically sound. I never saw The Boss as a technical wrestler, but more as a powerhouse guy. It's cool if they want to give it to him, but he needs to rag-doll them into submission or something.
