Big Show... Saved By Edge?

Motor City Mayhem

OK so we all know that at the beginning, it was supposed to be Chris Jericho and Edge as the WWE Unified Tag Team Champs. But after what 2 weeks I believe, Edge tor a ligament( Not to sure ) and is now till past Wrestle Mania 26 or possibly sooner ( ala Royal Rumble or No Way Out ). So Chris was left without a partner and because he knew that Edge is injury prone he had a clause in his contract to pick a new one. Thus, Big Show.

Big Show at this point had absolutely nothing going for him, he just got beat 2-3 times by John Cena, he looked bad, and now he was dominating little people ( Kofi, Miz, Bourne) over the U.S Championship, but whenever game time came he couldn't pull it off.

Now he is bringing prestige to the Tag Titles, he is being to look like a dominant force of nature, and Jericho is building and hyping him up to make him look even more dominant.

So I ask you, did the injury to Edge basically save the career of Big Show?

I would say yes. The Big Show right now is interesting and is being booked to be strong. Before, he was slowly getting weaker-looking and more boring. As much as I would have loved to see Rated Y2J, Jerishow is doing a fine job helping the tag titles and the Big Show's career.

Without a doubt. I mean even without this feud he would have still been around for a very long time, but he would have just been a sideshow like Andre was at the end of his career. It still pains me that in Andres final years they did stuff like have Hacksaw Jim Duggan beat him and I think Ultimate Warrior took him out in like 34 seconds 1 time. Show is not a great wrestler but he is the kind of guy who makes wrestling great in my opinion. Where else do you get to see a real life giant beating people up. Anyway Jericho has made him look so good that I could possibly see him winning a singles world title again at some point. They need to keep him with Jericho though. Jericho may be the best in the buisness today, but having Big Show with him makes him even better. I mean you have a man that has the technical expertise to twist your body into knots then you give him a giant as his best friend and the two togther seem unstopable. I can only pray that Jerishow last a long time, but the fact that they are not building and viable teams up for them to face tells me it is likely to end soon. HHH and HBK probably think the tag titles are beneath them, but I think the 4 of these men could put on a spectacular program togther that would propel tag team wrestling back into the main event scene.

I'd say Edge's injury did save Big Show. Big Show lost cleanly to Cena what 3 times (correct me if I'm wrong please)! He wasn't going to go anywhere on Raw even if he got the United States Championship off Kofi. Big Show has really clicked well with Jericho and this team really is quite a dominating force and have done a great job thus far getting the Unified Tag Team Champions attention and bringing some prestige back.

It helped Big Show tremendously. As was stated and as we all were seeing, Show had nothing going on. We were all down on him big time. But what looked like maybe a bad decision in choosing him, Show has really shown that he works well with Jericho and definatly looks better than he has in a long time. Show really got lucky on this one.

I do not think the move saved Show's career. He will be around in the WWE til he wants to retire from being an active wrestler.
What Edge's injury did was make Show relevant again. Show seems to ride these waves going up and down from being a very strong, scary guy you never would want to fight. Then down the wave to being a fckn joke. Were Chavo not around we'd be seeing Show get his come upins by the way of Hornswoggle.
So didn't save his career, but has made him worth while again.

I feel like it did save his career. As many people as said before the feud he was in that week-assed program with John Cena and then he just started beating the US Champion and Contenders. Eventually he would've just bottomed out into jobbing to main-eventers (as he basically did with Cena) for the rest of his career. So while I agree that it did make him relevant again, in doing so probably did save his career, because there's no knowing how long he would've been down and eventually he would have bottomed out.

I'm not saying he's the prettiest in the ring, because he's not, but he's big enough that he really shouldn't be. He goes in there and just uses raw strength to beat the shit out people, and the way he and Jericho combine to make it genuinely look like they're out to just destroy and hurt their competitors is just awesome. Maybe a long running feud with DX or maybe the Hart Dynasty could really bring the Tag Titles back as has been said before.

Anyone who disagrees with me is a hypocrite and a parasite, just pandering to the crowd.

i was actually thinking this just the other day.
i was like where would Shoe be if Edge didn't get injured. So i agree. Show wasn't going anywhere i think maybe just maybe he might have gotten a title shot (most probably not) but i agree completlely with you. He'd probably versing some mid carders and dominating them but going nowhere from there

After jobbing to Cena for what 4 months this year I think Big Shows back to a point where he's interesting and not a 500 pound job machine.

I still find it funny that on Monday Cena was the least bit intimidated by Big Show, after he beat his ass cleanly for those 4 months.

I don't think it was so much Edge getting injured that saved Show, it helped because it got him paired up with Jericho, and Jericho is the best in the business. At this point I don't know who Jericho couldn't help elevate (well excluding Batista, no one can make that piece of shit good)

Absolutely. Unfortunately, the Big Show had been jobbing to Cena. I don't think the WWE intended to make Show look bad, but they wanted so desperately to make Cena look like f***in' Superman! That they took an already declining Big Show and said "Hey! This guy's 500 pounds!"..You get the picture. But then again, maybe it's nothing the Big Show didn't deserve. He has gotten a bit lazy over the years. One time in an interview I heard the Undertaker say of all the people he was disappointed in, it was the Big Show who disappointed him most, because he wastes his talent. Of course that was from several years ago. Jericho has brought Big Show back up IMO. But unless he stays with Jericho, which somehow, I doubt he will, he'll turn right back into the Show we know and don't so much love. Just look at when he teamed with the Undertaker or Kane. When the tag title reign ends, it'd be cool if they kept Big Show on as Jericho's bodyguard.

not only did it make big show relevant again but it opened up a golden opportunity to have a fantastic fued when edge returns...

when edge gets bac and starts his fued with jericho hes gunna need a partner to take on jerishow...enter...christian.

cant wait.

Yes!!!

You're trying to make it look as if Jericho went backstage personally to hand pick a partner... that's not what happened. Big Show wasn't doing anything. Everyone knows about the "Big Slow" chants. Creative saw a way to make him active and put him in the main event scene again, that's all there was to it. You're reading too much into this...

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Some may argue that it was Chris Jericho who saved The Big Show, while others might say it was Edge getting injured who saved The Big Show. I would have to go with Edge saving Show, but I can see points to both theories. I'll elaborate.

When Chris Jericho was fueding with Rey Mysterio over the Intercontinental Championship, they wrestled at 3 consecutive ppvs. When Jericho lost the title back to Mysterio, WWE realized that he needed to still compete for a title, while letting this Mysterio fued die down a bit. Edge, just recently lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Jeff Hardy, who, just minutes later, lost it to Mr. Money in the Bank, C.M. Punk. WWE also wanted Edge in a title scene, as his whole time on Smackdown resulted in him in the title scene. Here is where Edge's injury comes in.

When Edge went down with his torn Achilles tendon, The Big Show was called to step in. At the time, he was involved in a less than good fued with Kofi Kingston over the United States Championship. He wasn't going to win the title, and it was a good decision (in the long run) to put Big Show in a team with Chris Jericho. Because of the tandem of Jericho/Big Show/Edge, the Unifed Tag Team Championships are being defended at the 5th ppv in a row, and several times in the past few months.

It is really anyone's guess who should really be getting credit for saving The Big Show. It could be Jericho for his new gimmick, his new backstage attitude, the way he tries hard to elevate everyone he's in the ring with (opponent or partner), etc. Or it could be Edge just for simply maintaining his injury-prone ways. You be the judge. I'd go with Edge.

This is really a no brainer, of course. Without Edge's injury Show would still be going no where in the mid card on raw. Though for once I find myself agree with Tlight to a degree. I think it's Jericho that has brought Show back. Each week Jericho has been hyping the crap out of him making him more and more mensing. Without a doubt he has been helped by Edge.

I have been saying this all along. I wouldn't exactly say it was Edge that saved Big Show. It was more so the creative team. They saw a way to make Big Show relevant and fierce again and it's working extremely well. Edge deserves no credit for this. It's not like he injured himself and went to creative and said " Hey guys pair Jericho with Big Show. It will work. DO IT!! ". Big Show just happened to be the right choice to be Jericho's partner. I love that Jericho is the mouthpiece and when he needs the back up the 7ft Big Show has his back. This was a great pairing. It is great to see Big Show wrestling and being fierce again. I hope that if Jericho and him do break up that Big Show maintains his Jericho-esque character. Maybe they will stick them together even after they lose the belts. They could kind of form their own stable off the two of them or something. Either way it just just great to see the fierce and competitive Big Show again. Thank you creative and thank you Edge for getting injured ( No offense )
