Here is my list of favorite matches from the Grandest Stage of them All. Most of these are the final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. For those that are not, I gave a short explanation why I picked them.
WM Hulk Hogan and Mr. T (w/ Jimmy Snuka) vs. Rowdy Roddy Piper and Mr. Wonderful, Paul Orndorff (w/Cowboy Bob Orton) with Special Guest Referees Muhammad Ali and Pat Patterson
The final match of the night, featuring the WWF Champion, the number one Heel and Mr. T.!!
2 Hulk Hogan (c) vs. King Kong Bundy (w/ Bobby The Brain Heenan) in a Steel Cage match for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship, inside a Steel Cage!!
III Hulk Hogan (c) vs. André The Giant (w/ Bobby The Brain Heenan) for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. The first time the Champ was the Underdog, sort of.
IV Macho Man, Randy Savage (w/ Miss Elizabeth and Hulk Hogan) vs. The Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase (w/ Virgil and André The Giant) in a tournament final for the vacant WWF Championship
The final tournament match of the night, for the WWF Championship.
V Macho Man, Randy Savage (c) vs. Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship and Miss Elizabeth!!
VI Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior for the WWF and Intercontinental Championships
The final match of the night, for the Undisputed WWF / Intercontinental Championship.
VII Sgt. Slaughter (c) (w/ General Adnan) vs. Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship and the U. S. A.!!
VIII The Nature Boy, Ric Flair (c) (w/ Mr. Perfect) vs. Macho Man, Randy Savage (w/ Miss Elizabeth) for the WWF Championship
It wasnt the final match of the night, but it was for the WWF Championship. I understand that Hulk Hogan was the bigger Star, but Id rather see a Main Event match between # 2 and # 3 (you decide whos who) for the richest prize, instead of # 1 and # 4 (at the that very moment), for pride.
IX Bret The Hitman Hart (c) vs. Yokozuna (w/ Mr. Fuji) for the WWF Championship
The final scheduled match of the night, for the WWF Championship. I just wont get into what happens after.
X Yokozuna (w/ Mr. Fuji and Jim Cornette) / Lex Luger (c) vs. Bret The Hitman Hart for the WWF Championship with Special Guest Referee Rowdy Roddy Piper
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. I always thought Owen Hart should have faced Yokozuna for the WWF Championship. I would have been okay with Lex Luger going 2 for 2 that night. This should have been the first WrestleMania WWF Championship Triple Threat match. This could have been the first WrestleMania WWF Championship Fatal Four Way match, if Owen Hart was included.
XI Diesel (c) (w/ Pamela Anderson) vs. Shawn Michaels (w/ Sid and Jenny McCarthy) for the WWF Championship
It wasnt the final match of the night, but it was for the WWF Championship. Lawrence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow did their thing, but I dont think it should have ended the show. Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy should have ended the show. Wait, didnt Shawn Michaels win the services of Ms. Anderson at the Royal Rumble??
XII Bret The Hitman Hart (c) vs. Shawn Michaels (w/ Jose Lothario) in a 60 Minute Iron Man Match for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship with Overtime.
13 Sycho Sid (c) vs. The Undertaker in a No disqualification match for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. The first WM Main Event spot for the Streak.
XIV Shawn Michaels (c) (w/ Triple H and Chyna) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWF Championship with Special Outside Enforcer Mike Tyson
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. Plus having Iron Mike Tyson adds to the hype. I wish he had a match instead. Tyson is one half of my Unified WWE World Tag Team Champions in my WWE 13 Universe.
XV The Rock (c) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin in a No Disqualification Match for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. The first WrestleMania Main Event match between my second favorite Star of all time vs. my other second favorite Star of all time.
2000 Triple H (c) (w/ Stepahnie McMahon - Helmsley) vs. The Rock (w/ Vince McMahon) vs. Big Show (w/ Shane McMahon) vs. Mick Foley (w/ Linda McMahon) in a Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. I am one of the very few who feel it was best for business to involve the McMahons in the match.
X-Seven The Rock (c) vs. Steve Austin in a No Disqualification match for the WWF Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWF Championship. Number 2 vs. Number 2
Round 2!!
X8 Chris Jericho (c) (w/ Stephanie McMahon) vs. Triple H for the Undisputed Championship
The final match of the night, for the Undisputed WWF / WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Yes The Rock and Hulk Hogan stole the show, but they stole it, because it wasnt theirs to begin with, sort of. Anyway, I agree with McMahons decision to give the most importance to the WWF Championship AND WCW Championship.
XIX Kurt Angle (c) vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWE Championship. Ric + Hunter + Booker + Big Gold Belt = Main Event in any other PPV, including Starrcade and Bound For Glory, but I respect what Vince did here. It would have been too easy for the Nature Boy and the Game to get the last spot on the card with the former 5 X WCW Champion for the World Heavyweight Title, but they knew what they were doing back then. They knew it was only fitting that two Wrestlers Main Evented the Greatest WrestleMania in History. Lesnar is one half of my Unified WWE World Tag Team Champions in my WWE 13 Universe.
XX Triple H (c) vs. Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels for the World Heavyweight Championship
This is the first match I picked where the WWF Champion or the WWF Championship isnt involved in the match. Still, it is the final match of the night, but for the World Heavyweight Championship. Im not taking anything away from the great match between Eddie and Kurt, but to me, this was the first sign that the WWE Championship and the World Championship were equal. Plus the chance to see Angle win # 5 wasnt as appealing at the time than seeing DX Explode on the Grandest Stage and Benoit win his first World Title.
21 Triple H (c) (w/ Ric Flair) vs. Batista for the World Heavyweight Championship
This is the second match I picked where the WWF Champion or the WWF Championship isnt involved in the match. Still, it is the final match of the night, but for the World Heavyweight Championship.
22 John Cena (c) vs. Triple H for the WWE Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWE Championship. Finally, after 2 years of being the new Intercontinental Title, the WWE Title takes its rightful place on the card.
23 John Cena (c) vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWE Championship. I actually loved this idea better than the rumored Main Event, Cena / HHH II The Rematch.
XXIV Edge (c) (w/ Vickie Guerrero, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder) vs. The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship
This is the third match I picked where the WWF Champion or the WWF Championship isnt involved in the match. Still, it is the final match of the night, but for the World Heavyweight Championship. Streak vs. Title (and Streak
sort of). It has a nice touch to it.
XXV Triple H (c) vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWE Championship. This felt like what WM 21 should have felt like.
XXVI The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels in a Streak vs. Career Match
This is the first match I picked where it was not about the WWF Championship, and not about the World Championship. Streak vs. Career and to this day, still holds to be as true as it gets in Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment.
XXVII The Miz (c) (w/ Alex Riley) vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship
The final match of the night, for the WWE Championship. I always wondered if the Anonymous Raw GM was going to make it a Triple Threat match and insert the Rock
but the Rock didnt feel like it or something.
XXVIII The Rock vs. John Cena
This is the second match I picked where it was not about the WWF Championship, and not about the World Championship. It was about one of my all-time favorites (tied for second favorite with Stone Cold Steve Austin) vs. my Sons favorite. We can see Cena smelling what the Rock was cooking!!
