So, this is a very odd circumstance.
During the build to the Becky vs Ronda match, with Becky's newfound recognition as the second coming of Stone Cold, I was hearing a lot of chatter about how this match will be a waste as these two should be booked for WrestleMania. Well, now it looks like we might get that match after all.
Stiff shots are frowned upon, and uncalled shots are scorned by any wrestler that isn't a doofus named RVD. Nia is likely eating a huge shit sandwich for what she did, especially because it's hard to argue that what she did wasn't deliberate. However; Becky chose to work through what happened and finish the show on a high note. We're giving Becky kudos for being an unbreakable badass, and Nia Jax is the reason why. My opinion is that Nia is damn lucky that she didn't accidentally hurt Becky to the point where Becky would be in the same situation that Paige is in, but she should get a slightly smaller punishment because things are apparently working themselves out for the better.
This is an example of how showmanship often trumps in-ring capability in the pro-wrestling world. For the sake of telling a good story, Ronda needs a worthy opponent. In the build for making Becky look worthy, Becky grabbed the bull by the horns and forced it to tap out to her awesomeness. Most women might be obliterated in ten seconds by Ronda in the Octagon, but now Ronda is in a world where you have to put on a show for the audience. Becky puts on a better show than Ronda, which really isn't an insult.
This is Stone Cold vs Bret Hart all over again. Stone Cold was such a great bad guy, that it was more fun to love him than to hate him. However you categorize Becky's character, you have to use the adjective "great" or it wouldn't seem right. Becky is a great heel, or she's a great face, or she's just great overall. Ronda is Ronda. Ronda sells tickets based on her prior fame, but she doesn't excel when it comes to putting on a show. The WWE isn't dealing with being on the losing side of a ratings war, but they're still on the losing side of legitimately presenting the women's division in a serious manner. I think that allowing Becky vs Ronda to headline WrestleMania, and letting the finish be something that pushes Becky to the moon is the best way to convincingly reset the WWE's reputation with how they utilize their female talent.
Ronda isn't as good as Becky, but she's the best possible person to make Becky look as good as she possibly can.
