Beastie Boys' Adam "MCA" Yauch Loses Cancer Battle; Dies at Age 47

"Beastie Boys" rapper MCA -- real name Adam Yauch -- has died.

In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node (below). He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.

Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.

I am a huge Beastie Boys fan and MCA was definitely a pioneer in the rap and music industry. This is very sad news.

Sad, considering the Beastie Boys were being inducted to the HOF this year. I just had a debate with a friend a couple of weeks ago about the Beasties. Being a huge fan, I stated that they were pioneers of HipHop. My adversary stated "No, not at all, you kidding me , they can be credited for white rappers and thats it". Sorry dude but you are wrong on this but if not for MCA and co. hiphop would not be where it is today. Thank you Adam Yauch for your contribution to music and may you play a great concert up above with the other legends residing there. You will truly be missed
