My goal in my Book This thread is to jump back in time and take a once great company to new highs. I have selected various wrestlers from AWA during the 1986 year and will use them to construct the best Book This possible. I will be adding in other wrestlers when i see needed which will be announced in a web site thread that i see many other people are already doing. I look forward to feedback and suggestions good or bad from readers. The first show will be along soon.

This is definitley a different type of project for this section, but it looks interesting. I can't wait to see what you do this and how it progresses. I haven't seen many, if any projects go back this far in history and it will be unique, for sure. Good luck, and I'll be reading.

Show Name - AWA All Star Wrestling
Venue - Curtis Nixon Hall in Tampa, Florida
Attendance - 4,515

Joe Blachard - “Welcome ladies and gentlemen to All Star Wrestling brought to you by the AWA. Tonight is going to prove to be a big one as we expect to here from management the very fate of the AWA American and World titles is. But first I have just been informed we are about to be joined by Steven Regal.”

Lee Marshall - “A man who never speaks a false word, he is someone you could set your watch by wouldn’t you say so Joe.”

Joe Blachard - “Well I don’t know about that, but we will be hearing from him either way. As a matter of fact here he comes down the isle now and he looks to be ready for a fight.”

(Regal marches down towards the ring in an angry fashion with a mic in hand.)

Steven Regal - “First of all I just want to say what a displeasure it is to be here in front of such a hypocritical crowd. It doesn’t matter which United States city you are in they are all pathetic. But I think we all can agree the fans in Tampa Florida. Honestly its not worth wasting another breath on, I am here tonight to address the rumors that have been going around the locker room for weeks now. I heard that the AWA actually has reached out to Lex Luger with an opportunity to work here (crowd pop’s).

Lee Marshall - “That’s the word going around Joe, we all have heard that Luger is on his way here to the AWA.”

Steven Regal - “I honestly hope these are just rumors because it is sure to be the downfall of a great organization. But just incase its not a rumor I have this message to relay to Mr. Luger before he ever steps foot through our doorway. Mark my words Lex, if you come here it will become my personal goal to not only rid the AWA from you. I will make sure you never work in this business anywhere ever again.”

(The crowd begins to stir as a man runs through the crowd towards the ring side barrier wall. The camera catches sight of the man and he is revealed as Lex Luger. The fans around the arena erupt as he hops the wall and climbs into the ring behind Regal.)

Joe Blanchard - “My god that’s… I cant believe my eyes Lee, is he really here. Have the rumors been true all along.”

Lee Marshall - “That’s him Joe no doubt about it, Lex Luger is here live and in person on an AWA event. This crowd is electric right now beyond believe.”

(Luger slowly approaches Regal from behind who has yet to notice his arrival. Luger with a big grin on his face taps Regal on the shoulder, Regal slowly turns with a look of fear in his eyes. Regal turns to find himself face to face with Luger who closelines him causing Regal to retreat as Lex remains in the ring and poses for the live crowd.)

Joe Blanchard - “This is unbelievable, Lex Luger has arrived in the AWA. Don’t go away folks we will be right back after these messages from our sponsors.”

Commercial Break -

Joe Blanchard - “Welcome back to All Star Wrestling on Thursday night, we just got underway and already we have big news. I have just been informed by AWA management that Lex Luger has officially been signed to the AWA exclusively. And beyond that we are just moments away from our first contest of the night. But first we are going to here from Buddy Rose who is backstage with Eric Bischoff.”

(the camera cuts to the backstage area where Eric Bischoff is seen standing side by side with Buddy Rose who is scheduled to compete in a match with The Masked Superstar in just a few moments.)

Eric Bischoff - “Thank you Joe and Lee and man do I have a special guest along side me tonight. A man who has held titles all over these United States Mr. Buddy Rose. Now Buddy we have just learned you will be taking on the Masked Superstar here tonight. What if any action plan do you have tonight to beat this mysterious athlete.”

Buddy Rose - “Let me tell you something, I have been around the block a few times and when you become as seasoned as me you don’t need an action plan. You go down to the ring and do what you already know your capable of. And as for Mr. Mask he had better hope he don’t stick around after I beat him. I will take that mask off his head and cram it down his throat till his suffocates to death. Now if you would excuse me I got business to take care of.”

Eric Bischoff - “Alright their you heard it from the man himself, Buddy Rose is on a mission tonight.”

Match 1
Buddy Rose vs. Masked Superstar
Match type - singles

Match Description - Thrown slam by Masked Superstar. Superstar hits a piledriver on Buddy Rose. He goes for a quick cover only to receive a two count. Rose counters an avalanche with a raised foot to the face. Uninspiring brawling from Buddy Rose. Punch by Rose, missing Superstar badly who ducks under it and hits Rose with a left hook of his own. The two share many back and forth momentum shifts throughout the course of the match. Rose hit’s a Slam on Superstar and heads to the top rope. Rose hit’s a flying elbow which seems to be the end for Masked Superstar as he can barely move. Rose hits piledriver and goes for the cover. 1....2...3, it's finished.

Winner - Buddy Rose via pinfall in 6:53

(post match Buddy Rose stands above Masked Superstar and reaches down to grab at the mask in an attempt to remove it from his face. Masked Superstar hit’s a low blow causing Rose to fall to the mat giving Superstar time to escape. Rose looks on up the ramp at Masked Superstar with rage filled eyes as he intended to seek revenge.)

Lee Marshall - “What a match we just Witnessed here Joe, I for one cant wait to see what is next on the agenda.”

Joe Blachard - “Well it wont be a long wait, word from the locker room is Marty Jannetty is on his way down to the ring, and here he comes now much to the crowds delight. This guy has a bright future in this business Lee, no doubt about it.”

(Marty enters the ring to a decent ovation and he looks ready to make an impact as the crowd settles and takes their seats.)

Marty Jannetty - “You know when I arrived here tonight I found out that I was not booked in a match this evening, hell I even tried to get interview time and I was told we cant do that (crowd boos). After about an hour of pleading and reasoning I was told to report to Eric Bischoff of all people to find out my assignment tonight. Well when I finally tracked him down I was told this. Go out to the ring and make a challenge, I was told to prove I belong here in the AWA and if I didn’t do this I would find a pink slip in my locker by the end of the night. So Mr. Bischoff here I am out in the ring making an open challenge. Anyone back their that wants a piece of Marty Jannetty come on down here and get your fix.)

(After a few seconds Marty’s challenge is answered by Scott Hall who makes his way slowly down the isle getting a lot of heat from the fans in the arena. A ref heads down to the ring and checks out both men before the match begins.)

Match 2
Marty Jannetty vs. Scott Hall

Scott Hall misses a clothesline...and takes out the referee instead. Scott Hall slides out and grabs a chair, then gets back in the ring. Chair shot missed! Marty Jannetty ducked it, and now grabs the chair. Hall takes the shot instead! Wait - the referee is back up, and is calling for the bell. He's disqualifying Marty Jannetty for using a chair!

(Hall ends up with a cheap victory. I don't think the fight has finished. Marty Jannetty and Hall have begun brawling again! They wind up brawling all the way down the aisle and out of view and we cut to commercial.)

Commercial break -

Joe Blanchard - “Somebody needs to separate those two men, their fight has now shifted into the backstage area and out of our view. One thing that is sure to come of a shady finish like this is a rematch. You can bet you last Dollar Jannetty will want Hall in the Ring again down the line.”

Lee Marshall - “More then likely, and as interesting that will be we have a ton of action remaining on this very show. And we now turn the broadcast back over to Eric Bischoff in the locker room area and he has a message to deliver to Marty Jannetty following his loss to Scott Hall just moments ago.

(the camera comes into focus backstage with Eric Bishoff and in the near distance Nick Bockwinkel can be seen pacing around.)

Eric Bischoff - “Thanks Lee, before I get to my next guest I do have one thing to get off my chest. This concerns you Marty Jannetty so keep your ears open. I did in fact tell you to go out to the ring tonight and make a challenge and you did it. The good news for you is I wasn’t very clear on my goals for you tonight. See I intended to make sure you win and you couldn’t get the job done. But since you did take me for my word I will give you another chance. You will be facing Scott Hall again at the end of this month on AWA Super Sunday. If you lose that match you will be suspended for one month without pay. This should serve as a wakeup call for you, and if not its been nice working with you. Now on to new business, Mr. Bockwinkel come take your rightful place in front of this camera. I just wanted to let you know that I have a favor of you to ask and it involves you competing in a match tonight. You see Marty Jannetty is not stupid and he will do anything to make sure he wins that match on Super Sunday against Scott Hall. What I ask of you is take out his help, go down to that ring tonight and put his partner Shawn Michaels on the disabled list. If you are successful I will have $1,000 cash waiting for you right here after that match is over. Think wisely my friend and do the right thing not just for you but for the business.”

(Bockwinkel and Bischoff shake hands and smile as the camera fades to black and we cut to commercial.)

Lee Marshall - “Welcome back to the Curtis Nixon Hall all you home viewers, you are just in time for our third match of the evening and this one is going to carry a lot of weight in Marty Jannetty’s AWA future. Nick Bockwinkel will be doing battle with Shawn Michaels.”

Michaels kicks Nick Bockwinkel in the gut to reverse the momentum. Nick Bockwinkel is in trouble. Rocker Dropper! 1....2....3.

Winner - Shawn Michaels via pinfall in 9:21

(after the match Shawn Michaels is still in the ring celebrating. Nick Bockwinkel pushes the referee away. Nick Bockwinkel drops Michaels to the canvas. Nick Bockwinkel quickly locks on the Sleeperhold! Bischoff comes out to the entrance ramp clapping and with a briefcase in hand waiting for Bockwinkel to come collect it.)

Joe Blachard - “Bockwinkel didn’t win the match but he made sure he took out Shawn Michaels. After that sleeper Shawn is motionless and who knows how long he will be out of action after that vicious attack.”

Lee Marshall - “We wish him a speedy recovery for his sake and Marty Jannetty’s sake as well. After we take this final commercial break it will be time for our main event of the evening. We have been told the winner of this match will advance on to Super Sunday to compete for the vacant AWA World title. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Curt Hennig when we get back.”

Commercial break -

Joe Blanchard - “Welcome back from what was our final break of the evening. In just a moment we are going to see Curt Hennig and Sgt. Slaughter. But first we are going to here from Slaughter, he recorded this interview earlier this afternoon when he learned of his possible title match if he can beat Curt Hennig. Here it is, lets take a look.

(the camera turns focus to the jumbo screen as the interview with Sgt. Slaughter begins to play to the live crowd.)

Sgt. Slaughter - “Good afternoon Maggots, the Sgt. Is in the building and I have one goal only for this evening, I intend to show these fans just what kind of man Curt Hennig is. Whether or not I win this match and advance to a title opportunity will be irrelevant. I intend to run him down in my very special boot camp program. Curt Henning you have only one chance tonight and that is for once in you life shoot straight. Step up and face me man to man and to the victor goes the spoil. See you in the ring!”

(the video comes to an end and Slaughter makes his way down to the ring to a huge pop as he awaits Hennig to begin the match.)

Match 4
Curt Hennig vs. Sgt. Slaughter
Match type - Singles match
Stipulation - Winner advances to a World title match at Super Sunday

The referee is out, as he goes down after accidentally getting caught by an elbow to the face. Sgt. Slaughter scores with a standing spinebuster. Pinfall attempt, but the ref is still down. Henning counters an arm wringer with an elbow to the side of the head. Rude Awakening on Sgt. Slaughter by Henning. Henning hits a piledriver on Sgt. Slaughter and goes for a cover but only gets a 2 count. Slaughter reverses a waistlock. Slaughter hits a stump piledriver on Curt Hennig and gets another near 3 count but the match continues on. Henning reverses a Sgt. Slaughter hammerlock. Sgt. Slaughter hooks up a suplex, but it is blocked. Henning scores with a low blow, then turns it into a small package! The referee didn't see the illegal blow! 1...2...3!

Winner - Curt Hennig via pinfall after a cheap shot in 14:42

(Curt Hennig leaves the ring and heads off down the aisle at speed. Henning has the victory, and isn't hanging around to give Slaughter the chance to strike back. Before the show comes to a close the letters JJ flash on the screen leaving Hennig and Slaughter looking quite confused as the show comes to an end.)

Pretty good show. I enjoyed it, and like how it went. It flowed pretty well, and was well written. I only saw a couple of small problems.

Number one, formatting. Shows are harder to read written in all regular text. Maybe some color when people are speaking, quotes when people are speaking, bold text to point out new segments on the show, italics in certain parts. Just small things that seperate things in the show.

Number two, the match detail. Maybe short and sweet is what you are going for, but it is harder to get into the flow of a match (for me, at least) when it is not written in full. I like reading matches that are written in full, as it gives me more detail into what is going on. I understand it is harder to do, and may not be what you are going for, but it does give readers a better input into your matches and what is going on.

Other than those relatively small things, great show. I like what you're doing and will be reading. Good job, and good luck with the rest of your shows.

Thanks for the tips, i will be sure to implement them into future installments. Glad to see people are reading lol, i am use to posting Book This threads on other forums and not getting any feedback. All the more intensive to keep it going. Thanks again though!

No problem. I love reading these things, they are something good to help pass the time. I'm glad if I helped you in anyway, because better shows usually mean better entertainment. As I see it, just keep up what you're doing now but use some more formatting and detail, and you'll get the maximum out of your writing, as your show was pretty good anyways. Once again, good luck. I'll make sure to keep reading.

Pretty much what TSG has said in his feedback. The formatting is the most essential thing to use as it's usually the first thing someone picks out when they attempt to read a BT. They want to have a nice flowing read that doesn't hurt the eyes. Then, once you've drawn them in with pretty colours and such (as well as an interesting idea which you've already done), it's time to get down to details.

Now, considering this is professional wrestling from a while back, the matches can be written differently and is much easier. There are less moves to incorporate and more story-telling can be done inside the ring.
