Avery Johnson hired as Head Coach by the N.J Nets

So word ESPN is that the Nets have hired Avery Johnson to be their head coach. This is breaking news, so no details just yet. What are your thoughts on the Nets hire?

I for one think this is a great hire. We talked about this in the thread Big Sexy started when Brown was fired from the Cavs. Johnson is a great coach who was let go too soon from the Mavs. He's a winner as a player and commands great respect. I think this is a great hire for the Nets as they prepare to make a big splash in the free agent market this summer. This hire will help pursuade players to jump on board with the Nets.

Great hire. He is a tremendous coach who was let go too early in Dallas and I'm surprised it took this long for him to get another job. The Nets are a very young team and Johnson should be able to turn them around quickly.

Another positive with this hire is Johnson's relationship with Nets point guard Devin Harris. Harris started becoming a great player under Johnson and I expect him to have a great season next year under Johnson.

I also think it's great. With the Nets looking to forget and move on from last season's 12-70 record, this is a great start. Avery Johnson has always been a great coach and the Nets aren't exactly a bad team. Devin Harris is no slouch at the starting PG, Yi and Brook Lopez can be dangerous, dominant threats and forces at PF and C. Those are New Jersey's Big Three and they aren't horrible. I also think Courtney Lee is okay. Keyon Dooling is okay. They have good players, just not enough consistent scorers.

If the Draft and/or the free agency period is good to the Nets, then they can be a threat in the East. Even if there aren't much changes, Avery Johnson can use his coaching to turn the Nets' success around. They have a good base and all they need to do is first figure out exactly what they want, work to get it, and they'll be fine... led by Avery Johnson.
