Auston Matthews makes history....

....in game 1 of the 100th NHL Season, Toronto Maple Leafs number 1 draft pick rips in 4 goals in his debut in under 18 minutes. The only player in history to do so.

If Leaf Nation wasn't buzzing before, they're shitting rainbows now.

Go Leafs Go!!!

I miss seeing the Leaf's in the playoffs, hopefully they turn it around and compete this year. Last season felt weird not seeing a single Canadian team in the postseason.

All I took from this game is that the Leafs lost, only one guy could score, they allowed a lot of goals, and their new superduperstar got shut out in the third and overtime when it matters.

Living just outside of Toronto (and not being a Leafs fan), this is all I heard about today. I swear my co-workers were already planning the parade. I had to keep reminding them that the Leafs didn't win last night. Amazing individual performance, but, all in all it is a team game, and his team came out on the losing end.

Funny thing is if you didn't see the score after listening to all the sports talk show you wouldn't even know they lost the game. I guess after losing 42 games last year they'll take the moral victories.

Matthews' performance was nothing short of incredible — almost as incredible as the fashion in which the Leafs lost the game in spite of his four-goal debut.

I mean, honestly — is there anything more Toronto than having the first-overall draft pick dazzle in a new NHL record, only to lose the game 5-4 in overtime?

That said, Toronto is incredibly wealthy in young talent, and they're probably only a few years away from being an Eastern Conference power house.
