Are they better perceived as a face or heel?

1) Sting
2) Lex Luger
3) Rick Steiner
4) Scott Steiner

It just depends on what each JCP/NWA/WCW viewer each think of them as a person, and how you believe each of them would work the best as either a babyface or a heel. And usually being a face or a heel reflects on the wrestlers' real-life attitudes and dealings backstage and away from the squared circle rings. Also, charisma and mic skills could also play a part in their crowd heat reaction capabilities, and the popularity depends on the person. I'm gonna give my fellow forum users a chance to answer this question from their own perspective, and now I don't mind differing opinions from anyone.

Sting couldn't be a convincing heel unless he pulled a real life Chris beniot situation.

Led luger, probably better as a heel, its too bad he came back to wcw so early, he'd have made a great early member of the NWO

Rick steiner face, his heel turns always seemed forced.

Scott Steiner however, always seemed more comfortable playing the heel, even with heelish actions I'm his face days in the early 90s

Sting's a face. He did play heel sometimes, but like Ricky Steamboat or Tito Santana, he's pretty much a lifetime babyface.

Luger is probably perceived more as a heel because people don't seem to like him. But his two most memorable runs came as a face, the red-white-and-blue WWF run, and feuding with the nWo/beating Hollywood Hogan for the belt in WCW.

Rick Steiner will be best remembered as a face member of the Steiner Brothers.

Scott Steiner on the other hand will be best remembered as a heel Big Poppa Pump.

Sting = face. always a face

Luger = heel, although he did make a great good guy in the face of the nWo threat

Rick = nobody cares

Scott = wayy better as big poppa pump

Sting....face, no question. In WCW, TNA, and WWE...he was face like 98% of the time. He was the most popular face in WCW for years in the early 90s and again in 97.

Luger....heel. I think he was at his best as a heel as his mega face push attempts never quite succeeded. I liked how when he was heel and Sting was face, they were still friends.

Steiner Brothers....face. I think of them from their tag team run through most of the 90s where I think they were face the entire time.

Sting is way more better as a face, Never enjoyed him as a heel for the short time he played one but one of the top face wrestlers of all time.
Rick Steiner I could take either way maybe slightly endging towards being a face.
Both Lex Luger and Scott Steiner are miles better as heels they just seem to have that heel like personality, Both are still capable faces but I much prefer watching both of them more as heels.

I gotta say, thinking about it......putting Sting on here has to be a joke, right? I mean, he's one of the biggest faces of all time.

A few better options....

Randy Savage. He had great runs as heel and face, and seemed to spend a similar amount of time in each role.

Shawn Michaels. Spent a good amount of his first solo run as a heel, and the majority of his second run as a face. Had title runs as both. Art imitated life as he was largely a great heel when he was mostly considered a jerk in real life with many drug and lifestyle issues, and was largely a great face when he was considered to have gotten his life together and become a solid guy.

Savage was way better as a heel, he had that short fuse personality that fit much better into the heel that could snap at any moment character

Shawn Michaels all much better heel than face; his first title run is evidence of that.

You can take both Sting and Rick Steiner out of the equation. Al though both had heel runs (Rick Steiner early in his career as a singles and Sting briefly late in his) they will be be forever remembered as two of the most popular baby faces of all time in their respective categories (Rick as a tag team w/ Scott and Sting as a singles)

Lex Luger is tricky. He was a guy who went back and forth regularly. He debuted as a heel but had his most successful run as a babyface. I think for the MOST part he is PERCEIVED as a heel due to his cocky attitude i.e. The Four Horsemen, The Narcissist, The Total Package, and Totally Buffed. BUT I think he will be most REMEMBERED for TWO things. Bodyslamming Yokozuna and defeating Hogan for the World title on Nitro in
1997. I think he possessed both qualities to be both heel and babyface.

Scott Steiner - Unlike Luger most his babyface success came in a tag team. When he tried to be a babyface in 2003 in the WWE it failed miserably. Scott Steiner will always be perceived as a heel because as mentioned earlier it is just his personality to be brash, cocky, condescending and whatever negative quality you can assign to him.

Shawn Michaels - To me Shawn was always better as a heel. Much like Luger and Steiner he had that personality. His babyface run as WWF Champion was a failure. Je was much better and more memorable as the Heartbreak Kid and then as the leader of DX. They drastically overshadowed his run as a Rocker and his time with Jose Lothario. Even when he returned as "Christian" Shawn Michaels people will remember his feud with Hogan where Shawn turned heel.

His temper worked as a face too though. Such as when he feuded with Jake Roberts in '91. I remember Savage entering the Rumble in '92 and going insane on Jake. Crowd loved it.

There wasn't a ton of difference in Savage as a face and heel. Main difference was that he treated Elizabeth well as a face, and poorly as a heel. But in terms of how he went at it with his opponents, he was the same fiery guy with a temper who would do whatever he had to do.

thats what made him one of the all time greats. I love how guys like him and austin and flair never really changed their core persona wether they were face or heel, made em much more believable.

Yup, I'd throw Jake Roberts in that group too.

What about Roddy Piper? An amazing heel in late 70s into the mid-80s but was never a heel again after WM 3. Well maybe shortly in WCW late in his career that no one remembers.

Sting Face.. The only time his heel theme was even remotely interesting is when he turned on Hogan, but his heel time in TNA was stupid. He was cowardly. NOT Sting at all.

Rick Steiner.. Face all day.

Luger was great at both. Could turn on a fly and still be great. Underrated IMO.

Savage.. Was great as both. As someone above said, he was basically the same as either one, but he was more "colorful" as a face.

Scott Steiner. Well Big Papa Pump heel always. Crowd loved him though.

Ric Flair? Much better Heel but was always a great face. Greatest performer of all time IMO.

I will even throw another one. I actually preferred Hulk Hogan as a heel. His first year or 2 with NWO was gold.

Piper is an interesting one and I would say that really depends on how old you are. When I was first old enough to watch wrestling, he was a huge face. So I basically always knew of him as a face in real time, though obviously I was aware that he used to be a heel. Someone a little older who experienced the early - mid 80's WWF in real time would see him as a heel, I would think.
