Are There Any Beloved Faces Left In The WWE?

Think about it, almost all of the faces in the WWE today, even the tops such as Cena, HHH, & Batista, get hated on by alot of people for all sorts of reasons. Back in the early days, faces were loved because... they were supposed to be loved, and the best example of this is definitely Hulk Hogan. He was the most over face of the early WWE and virtually no one disliked him. Nowadays, it seems like ALL of the faces are hated for some reason or another (Cena, "can't wrestle", HHH, "title hog", etc etc).

Do you think the time of faces actually truly being faces to the fans is over and will forever be over, as it seems, due to the day and age, that ALL wrestlers are criticized in one way or another, which is very different compared to the old days. Or do you think there are still some beloved faces still in the WWE today?

I can pretty much assure you Cena, HHH, Batista, Jeff hardy and others are all loved by the fans. How I know this you might ask? Listen to the cheers and support they get from their fans. This guys are all loved, except from the IWC. For whatever reason the majority(not all)seem to hate the faces and love the heels. I don't know why, but I guess they just like the heels more.

But general fans love the faces. That's why you see people at the live shows wearing the gear, waving signs supporting them, and hear people chant their name. So I don't think the current faces in the WWE don't lack fan support or love, they just don't have the support by many in the IWC(but remember we are in the minority)so in reality all these guys are loved but when you go on a wrestling board and see constant Hardy, Batista, HHH, Cena bashing in might appear that they are hated and not favorites but this is false.

Yea, good point, I think it really does have alot to do with the IWC.

However, I would argue that some people do still boo Cena and others due to some of their characteristics, such as being kid friendly, holding the title for too long of a time, and being seemingly unbeatable (at least these were the reasons to boo Cena as of around last year, as he does lose matches now and again. Now, compare Cena's mixed reaction (Cena supposedly being THE face of the WWE right now) to Hogan's uproar of a reaction during the 80's. There's a pretty big difference, but, as you mentioned, I agree that a decent amount of it is due to the IWC.

John Cena is loved by millions and millions of fans, and the only people who hate him are those "smarks" who think it is cool to bo a face, and cheer a heel. It is all about the majority, and the majority of fans love Cena, HHH, Batista and Jeff Hardy. So to answer your question, yes there are beloved faces left in the WWE. Just because a select few people hate someone, it doesn't mean they aren't loved. Remember though,it is cool to fuck up the business. :icon_rolleyes:

Hardy, for a much deservedly reason...he earned it from hard-work, dedication, and almost killing himself in every match...HHH and Batista, for absolutely no reason, Batista doesn't even care about the biz and is all roided up like HHH who just started winning major titles after he married stephanie, they both have little to no wrestling ability and do as little work as they possibly can...and as far as Cena, he is hated by as many people as he loved by...also for no reason, other than they are sick of seeing him at the top...Hogan could never have made it in today's WWE...he simply was not good enough(and now im gonna hear it from the "Hogan is god" dingleberries)...but Cena is, because he puts in more work than anyone ever has, than any 10 people ever have...he had the spinal surgery, came back did every raw, raw house show and still made the movie, bur people hate him...don't see why, I'm not really a Cena fan, but I don't hate the guy or dislike him in any way, I have respect for him and for people to not, is just disrespect towards everyone that's ever given any kind of effort in for the business

Tommy Dreamer, WWE has not really pushed him once since being back on tv and he hasn't won a match that i can remember but he still gets alot of cheers from the fans.

I agree with everything you said besides this. Grouping everyone who doesn't find Cena to be great as a 'smark' is an overused generalization and is just plain ignorant.

On topic, Hogan was 'beloved' because people didn't know any different back then. The argument that the internet is involved is very true. If no one knew HHH was in the position he is backstage, he would probably be liked better.

why is jeff hardy in this catergory?
he is the one that i was thinking about when i read this post
he is super-over with every1.
we all know that he is one of the only wrestlers thats loved by all age groups.(kids 2 grown men) i think that everyone looked more forward to seeing him win the title more than their fav wrestler. im the biggest edge fan, and i'd rather see J.hardy with it, than edge! whens that last time you heard Jeff come out to boos? never...

H.B.K How could you guys forget about Shawn Michaels. He's a top face and even when he tried to be heel (his feud w Hogan) the fans all still cheered for him. Heck they turned against Hogan. Everyone loves Shawn.

totally agree with aqua, HBK is one, if not, the biggest face around right now. the guy can do no wrong

lolz actually I don't like Shawn for many reasons. Most of my reasons is why Bret don't like Shawn. I respect Shawn for his wrestling abilities, but the person Shawn I don't really like. Just read Bret's book you can understand why.

the stuff in brets book is in the past. Shawn micheals is a born again christian who wouldn't even do ertain things in the DX reunion angle. i also don't see a lot of hate for cm punk, and i beleive hes going to be our generations equivalent of ricky steamboat, fluke title win not withstanding

I actually agree with the guy earlier who said tommy dreamer because anytime this guy comes out he gets a huge pop hes beloved by all the fans due to all his work back in ecw. Other than that the obvious is HBK and hes the man he can do absoultly nothing wrong. HHH also because hes the man now and he's pretty much heart and soul of the company. Batista is beloved by fans.. I personally believe he doesn't deserve it yet and also cena and i hate cena but he is a great performer. Other than that basically no one else maybe make a case for jeff hardy thats it.

The first name that comes to mind is HBK. He had his time as a heel, but for the rest of his career, he'll be the beloved babyface that everyone wants him to be. He gets a huge ovation when he enters the arena, and the crowd goes crazy for his matches.

Cena, Hardy, and Triple H have all been discussed, and I'd agree that they are extremely beloved, even if there are a few fans booing.

Another babyface that is beloved by the crowd, is Batista. His entrance gets one of the loudest pops of the night, and every fan in the arena loves his matches. The only place Batista is hated, is on internet forums, and that's hardly a large perecentage of the WWE fanbase.

I cant believe no ones actually mentioned the Undertaker. He and Shawn never get boo'd. HBK is another, as someone mentioned also. Tommy Dreamer is also one.

On the subject of Cena haters only being smarks, out of my group of friends that watch wrestling all but one dont like him and the reason they give is he's just too bland in the ring. none of these go on internet wrestling websites because its filled with shite half the time...which makes me wonder why i do tbh. but i do love a good rumour =]

To say Cena is loved world over is just pure ignorance. At NYR 2006 are you telling me the whole crowd were part of the IWC? Fact of the matter is Cena is very very kid friendly, and theres nothing wrong with that. But from my perspective, the 18 - 49 demographic doesnt want to see a smiling kid friendly guy holding the title for a year and such. They want to see a ruthless badass kicking the bajeesus out of anyone he wants to.

I agree with Tommy Dreamer and The Undertaker, as people have previously mentioned (I love them both, as well), but the first name that comes to my mind is Rey Misterio. He is the top draw for latino fans of all ages and I would venture to say may be just as big as Cena with the younger kids. Every week on RAW I saw more and more little kids sporting their Rey Misterio masks and holding their 619 signs. He is the top babyface in the company at this moment. Misterio can do no wrong in the eyes of the fans.

John Cena gets booed by half the crowd every week, not because people like booing the face, but because people like booing entertainers who CANT ENTERTAIN US. He's a bad wrestler, not athletic and sucks on the mic. He tries WAY too damn hard to be taken seriously. That's why every week, out of the 12 or so thousand people watching live, there might be 6 of them who aren't female and over the age of 12 cheering for him.

At the pinnacle of his face run, when even "normal" live fans were cheering for him, if he had beat RVD at One Night Stand....there is a VERY legitimate chance he would have been murdered that night. That's not even a joke.

During the PINNACLE of Triple H's heel run, everyone in attendance would boo every punch Cena threw and cheer every punch Hunter threw.

OP is right. There won't ever be a "baby"face ever again. Jeff Hardy included. The man wears make up, dies his hair, wears a crotchless leotard on his arms, sucks on the mic and jumps around a lot. This is supposed to make the average guy CHEER for him???? I don't think so.

Even The Rock got booed during the end of his run. Even Stone Cold turned HEEL!!!!! The day of the 'baby'face is over.

As far as Dreamer goes: You can't go winless for 8 years and be taken seriously. face or heel. Even JBL managed to wrangle up a win or two in the last few years.

Undertaker: how can you say he's a "baby'face, when he was the most sedistic son of a bitch on the planet for half his career?

Mysterio: First of all, the guy hasn't had a legit story line since he came to WWE. For an argument why people don't like him: Very similar to Jeff Hardy. He's tiny, doesn't speak English, jumps around a lot and somehow defeats 3-400 pound men every week. It just gets ridiculous and the normal fans (non-pubecent males) are getting sick of it. Like Cena, take away the children and the girls and see how many cheers there are for Rey Rey.

I think there's only 3 people who know matter what, would never be booed again by fans no matter how they were booked: Undertaker, Ric Flair & Steve Austin, the fans have too much respect for them.

I would like to add an input on this subject. The whole beloved faces angle I was watching wrestlemania 22 and 23 when cena went against the member of dx in both events and got booed like crazy, Triple h was still a heel at the 22nd wrestlemania who recieved cheers for whipping wwe's poster boy right same with shawn micheals heck even jericho got cheers in there summerslam bout i guess what i am trying to say is that we the fans aren't brainwash into liking an person just because they are a faces we like them because of the performance they put on, another fact edge vs undertaker hell in a cell both men got cheers for the show so the uber babyface is dead now the fans decide who is worth cheering for

If Undertaker wanted another heel run, he could get the people to boo him in 30 seconds. A quick tombstone to Austin at WM can take care of that. I mean, my god, MICK FOLEY was able to turn heel with a quick alignment with Edge before his Wrestling days were over. If Foley could do it, ANYONE can.

lol shawn never get booed? are you out of you mind? have you ever watch wwe while they were in canada?

Lol of course Shawn gets booed in Canada but that doesn't count. Jericho who's one of if not THE biggest heels in the business gets cheered like crazy in Canada because that's where he's from. Canada is always different than most other places and those 2 wrestlers history in Canada being taken into account of course they'd get that reaction. How anyone in their right mind could say Cena only gets booed by the IWC is crazy. He gets extremely mixed reactions. I doubt every single guy in that audience in every city they visit booing Cena is an IWC guy. My own brother hates Cena and he is not an internet guy. I know plenty of people who aren't IWC guys who can't stand him because he's stale and bland as hell and is pushed to the moon beyond belief. Cena's reactions are very mixed and there's no mistaking that. I keep thinking of Mania 22 where he got booed out of the building in Chicago when he was the clear face in the match.

I have not heard Cena booed by half the crowd as ChrisIrvine states. (Jericho rules, BTW) Lately, I have heard the crowd MAYBE at 80/20 in favor of loving him, if not 90/10. People have been popping for Cena like nuts. He's damn sure beloved, and just because a few jealous, smarky guys in the crowd have an issue with him doesn't mean he's not. Look at how much traffic his appearances get!

CM Punk and Kofi Kingston are beloved. For upper-echelon mid-carders, they get main event level pops in some crowds. Punk more than Kofi, but I think a lot of fans enjoy Kofi's laid back, smiling, and athletic persona.

Jeff Hardy is beloved. He's like the tragic underdog - the guy people want to see succeed, but who is so close to failure. He's a terrific story.

Yes HBK gets boo'd in Canada

but then again Funaki recieves huge pops in Japan, Regal in the UK, La resistance had the biggest pop of the night in montreal when they won the titles a few years back, and as stated Y2J also gets big pops in canada.

It means nothing. He is getting boo'd because of an incident that happened 11+ years ago
not because of his character/wrestling ability.

And ChrisIrvine i do agree, same could be said for HBK or anyone else who has been mentioned....but if as a heel he went on to meet Cena or Batista, i can bet my life on him getting cheered by more than 50% of the crowd
