Championship fights are in blue. All cards are subject to change, obviously.

April 8th
Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
David Lemieux vs. Marco Antonio Rubio (Middleweight)

I actually watched this fight last night out of the hype David Lemieux has been receiving lately. He's been regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the entire sport and perhaps the "Next Big Thing" so to speak, but man... the hype train came to a screeching halt last night, as he was dominated in EVERY round by this Rubio dude. I was very disappointed. It's always sad to see a prospect of Lemieux's stature to fall so early.

April 9th
MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada
Erik Morales vs. Marcos Maidana (Jr. Welterweight)
Robert Guerrero vs. Michael Katsidis (Lightweight)
James Kirkland vs. Nobuhiro Ishida (Middleweight)
Paulie Malignaggi vs. Jose Cotto (Welterweight)
Danny Garcia vs. Nate Campbell (Jr. Welterweight)

Broadcast on HBO PPV.

This is actually one great fucking card that I will be sure to watch sometime after Strikeforce tonight.

Erik Morales vs. Marcos Maidana should be a fucking WAR. Maidana is basically a street fighter who looks to brawl in every fight he's in, while Morales is pretty much a legend at this point looking to continue his comeback. Should be one epic fight.

Michael Katsidis is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport himself. I don't know much about Robert Guerrero, but I'm always down to watch Katsidis fight.

James Kirkland is the REAL next big thing in the sport and I highly doubt he has a downfall tonight like what Lemieux suffered last night. I have a feeling that James Kirkland vs. Sergio Martinez will end up being one of the biggest fights of 2012, so hopefully Kirkland makes quick work of Ishida and continues to build his name up.

Not a big fan of Paulie Malignaggi's style, but his personality has always intrigued me. The guido is easily one of the most interesting personalities in the sport, so win or lose he's always fun to watch.

And Nate Campbell is another guy who always brings it. He's a bit of a stepping stone, sure, but his fights are usually always entertaining. I've never seen Danny Garcia but he's apparently a very hot prospect himself, so it'll be cool to see what he can do against Campbell.

Kirkland got dismantled in one round by a feather-fisted Japanese fighter with 6 losses.

Damn. I'm surprised. This shocked me more than Erik Morales keeping his fight competitive. He didn't even understand what was happening. Knocked down three times in the first round for the loss.

Robert Guerrero impressed me with that fight with Katsidis, as well. He kept the tempo up and brought the fight to Michael at times.

Honestly, it was a great card. The promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, said that the PPV could be rematched and it'd be a great event. I actually agree with him. It was a good show.

I haven't seen any of the fights from the PPV event yet but I watched Lemieux's fight and predicted the outcome after two rounds. Lemieux was firing shots with a lot of stank in em' and getting no results. It wasn't going to be long before he got tired. Rubio was patient, kept his guard up and began trading with Lemieux when some of the power was zapped from those punches. Good upset.

Yeah, he did come out with the wrong style. I think he's like a lot of young punchers and feels that he's got the knockout before he throws the first punch. It's a great spectacle to watch until they run into their Rubio.

Still, he's young enough to bounce back. He's not a horrible boxer and he does have power. He just needs to work on a bit of defense and get a bit more patient. Keep his cool and potentially get his rematch.

Huge night of fights tonight.

It looks like the month of April 2011 is turning out to be the month of upsets in the sport of boxing, as Juan Manuel Lopez SHOCKINGLY got stopped in his fight against Orlando Salido.

First let me say that it was a GREAT fucking fight. However, man... I never expected JuanMa to take such a beating. A few of years ago I would have completely disagreed with that stoppage, but in a post-Benoit, concussion conscious World... you cannot blame referees for stopping fights when a fighter is out on his feet like JuanMa was. Sure, instincts were still kicking in for JuanMa to keep throwing punches, but he was only going to take more and more damage if the fight hadn't been stopped, most likely resulting in a devastating knockout.

JuanMa showed a boatloads of heart to recover from the knock down and to keep fighting on, but it just wasn't his night. Hopefully there's a rematch sometime soon.

What makes the fight so disappointing though is that now the chances of JuanMa vs. Gamboa by the end of the year are slim to none. I wanted to see that fight as badly as Pacman/Mayweather. Damn...

Also, King Khan looked great tonight before the bullshit cut stoppage. Khan easily won every round, but his opponent was a complete pussy so it didn't matter. Khan's next fight against Timothy Bradley though is going to be special. Cannot wait for that one, and I fully expect for Khan to take it.

And while the Khan/McCloskey fight was disappointing, the one before it between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto more than gave the fans their money's worth. Terrific fight, and Ortiz is finally living up to the hype. Glad to see it, because he's a good dude and a VERY exciting fighter.

This is the first I'm hearing of JuanMa getting stopped. Wow, the upsets this month keep coming.

I didn't care much for the khan/mccloskey fight, khan is just in another league with Freddie Roach's training, looking forward to how he deals with Bradley this summer.

Fight of the night and possibly by January 1st, the fight of the year, Andre Berto vs Victor Ortiz. Coming into this match I had Berto knocking Ortiz out by the mid rounds but I was thoroughly impressed by Ortiz' aggression and the accuracy of his punches. Both fighters displayed tremendous heart as well. I thought Ortiz' run was over after Berto caught him with a sick punch in the 6th that put him on his ass but nope, Victor not only got up and dropped Berto in the closing seconds of that same round but he essentially dominated the rest of the fight. I'm looking forward to this rematch.

Also saw the replay of last saturday's ppv and Robert Guerrero is someone to watch. He annihilated Katsidis. And also I can't buy into the comparisons of Katsidis with Gatti. Gatti was an action fighter who actually won some of his big fights. Big difference.
