Antonio Pierce

Antonio Pierce was with Plaxico Burress at a Manhattan nightclub last November when the wide receiver accidentally shot himself in the thigh. Authorities say Pierce drove Burress to the hospital and took the gun to Burress' home in Totowa, N.J. Burress did not have a permit for the gun, and has pleaded not guilty to weapon possession. Pierce also may face charges. Yesterday and today, he testified in front of the grand jury. He's laid the facts out, not asking for compassion. He faces 3 and 1/2 to 15 years.

Should Pierce be punished? I say he shouldn't. In a situation like this, I would have taken my friend to the hospital as well. What are you supposed to do? I'm not going to let my friend lay on the ground with a bullet in his leg. He had no criminal intent, but was just helping his friend. Any responsible citizen would do that.

I agree that Pierce shouldn't be punished, but only because it's hard to pinpoint exactly how deep his involvement was. That said, I believe there's no question that he was trying to help Plaxico cover up the incident.

When Pierce took him to the hospital, he must have been aware of Plaxico's attempt to register under an assumed name. Also, it was reported that Pierce took the gun from Plaxico and brought it to his own home. If that doesn't spell cover-up, I don't know what does.

I'm glad that Plaxico was indicted, though. I was concerned that his plea to the grand jury might actually convince them to not indict, which would have been insane given the seriousness of the crime. It would have been a perfect example of celebrities getting preferential treatment when they screw up and I'm happy it didn't happen. Now, Plaxico is going to have to plead this thing out. He obviously can't let it go to trial and risk 3-15 years in prison.

The grand jury got it right, he was placed in a bad situation and was just told to bring the gun back to his house. How should he know the gun is illegal he wasnt told the specifics he was just asked to do plax a favor because he was going to the hospital
