Angle-Jarrett is Intentionally Comedic

I know many of you are saying that since Kurt has approved the go ahead with this storyline that makes it ok, but I can't fully agree. I mean, what are his options? He's one of the few in TNA who actually has a storyline devoted to him. This angle is getting a lot of tv time and exposure, 2nd only to the Immortal vs Fortune angle. So Kurt can either do this or he can wait around for TNA to come up with something else for him or lump him into one of the ever changing factions in TNA, which they've already done anyway.
So are you saying that the correct move for Kurt was to choose his wrestling career over being a good parent?

What are his options? "Hi, I read the script and I'm uncomfortable with my children and family being depicted in this kind of light. Storylines that intersect reality sell, I know that, but can we rewrite this so that my kids aren't involved? Or that if they were to end up watching it, I don't have to go home and tell them that daddy was just pretending to threaten mommy?" It's not just a matter of "we used Kurt's kids in an angle last year, and wish we could retcon that for this angle", the kids are being used to further THIS disgusting angle, and I have a hunch that'd have to be with Kurt and Karen's approval.

The option was to say no to the storyline as presently written. He's Kurt Angle; TNA creative would find something for him. Being at one of the top spots in a promotion that plays to 800 people weekly isn't worth psychologically damaging your children. There was no "rock and a hard place" for Kurt Angle; he chose this path for him and his family.

I can't say that doing this angle equates to Kurt being a bad parent, but the kids should be left out of it. Those kids are going to look back on this because they were on tv and associate it with "mommy leaving daddy" so its going to always be a painful reminder for them. No, it isn't the best parenting I guess (I'm not a parent and I don't really know how to be one) but I don't think Kurt is a terrible parent for going ahead with this angle. I hadn't been watching TNA on a regular basis until mid January so I'm unaware of what this storyline was continued from.

I didn't mean to insinuate that Kurt was between a rock and hard place, just that perhaps he feels it was the best of the options he had. Its good for his career to be in this angle and getting lots of tv exposure. Maybe it makes him a bad father, maybe it doesn't. He and the mother of his children gave their consent so they both must agree that its not going to do that much damage. I'm sure they're not thrilled about it, but they also have bills to pay so why not do it? Its immediately available (as opposed to waiting for a new storyline to be developed), its a major part of the show (which is good for Kurt's and Karen's careers), and neither apparently think its the wrong thing to do as a parent.

My main fault is with TNA. There are many people that oppose this angle and that's why the hokey intentional comedy is thrown in there, to make it seem less severe. I'm saying that if they're gonna do this then TNA should do it right and stop watering it down with cheesy comedy and bait and switch tactics. TNA is not only exploiting people's personal lives (hoping for higher ratings I guess?), they're doing it in a nonsensical half assed way that pretty much makes the whole thing pointless. If you enjoy this storyline, good for you...I don't enjoy it but not because it "crosses the line" so to speak but because its just another poorly executed wrestling angle from TNA.

I'd just like to say something to all the sensitive people out there. You know, the puss-bags.

If Angle should be worried that his kids might watch this one day and associate it with a divorce, then he should be fucking worried that his kids are going to look back and see their father bleed profusely, get beat up by other men, moonsault off cages and injure himself every now and then.

If that's the case, Shawn Michaels should burn all the WWE archives from his DX days, because his kids are going to look back and see their daddy tell men and women of all ages to suck his cock, jumping around in biker shorts, making KKK references and taking his pants off on live television.

Grow a set, god dammit. Why is everyone so fucking sensitive. I'm sure that the ACTUAL split between Angle and Karren was FAR more traumatizing than watching themselves on Television.

The storyline is BRILLIANT, it generates tons of heat, Jarrett is a tremendous heel and Angle is as always an awesome face. Wrestling fans bitching and moaning because something is unethical - I've seen it all now.

first of i ti s well known that karen a nd kurt had what is far from an amicable split, this is exploitationof the highest degree! also the affair was 100 percent real sure the stipulation is fake but they are playing of f some real hostility, russo is a scumbag!

That's just a little bit different, and you well know it. No one has said in this thread, or anyone with any idea of how wrestling works, that a performer should never do anything he'd have to explain to his young children. The major, major difference is that Kurt, Karen, and Jeff- all three people who have a real-life obligation to real-life children- are exploiting the situation, and worse, the children, for the sake of getting a few viewers. Am I saying Shawn Michaels should proudly tell his children about the time he stuffed his pants on live national television? No, but Shawn Michaels (also not the paragon of responsibility) never called his wife a ****e on national television either.

It's not that a wrestler is doing inappropriate things on television when he has children, and it's disingenuous that you'd try to imply that. It's that a wrestler is actually using a traumatizing event for his children and using it to further his career. So the actual divorce was probably more traumatizing? I never realized that once a child suffered a traumatic event, anything that was smaller in impact didn't affect the child at all.

Your attitude is what's wrong with TNA these days; if it generates heat, it must be great! But I don't have any heat for the character of Jeff Jarrett, and I don't feel any sympathy for the character of Kurt Angle. I have heat for the people portraying those characters. "Getting heat" is not the end goal for a business; generating money is. "Getting heat" is not the end goal for a parent; raising your children responsibly is. This angle barely serves the first and makes a mockery of the second.
