And with that Summerslam 2011 has been ruined

As you all know, The Rock and Cena have set their match...for WM28. Yes, it should be epic but that's a whole freakin year away. We have the second biggest event for the WWE in August and the one main event that could've drew in giant pay per view buys and made it one of the greatest WWE events in history.....went down the tube. When the challenge was issued, I was praying Rock would say August making it the ultimate summer blockbuster and get everyone pumped for the WWE's second biggest spectacle. But no. WM27 was a disaster and in just one night, the second biggest event of the year became a train wreck in the making.

It seems WWE has given up on 2011.

I'm not one to come on these boards and say "you're wrong" and I still won't. I'm a little more optimistic, though. I'm interested to see how WWE plays this out over the course of the year and I have a feeling they'll find a way to use SummerSlam to further push this match while feeling epic in its own right.

Or they may screw it up, big time. Who knows? If anything, this pretty much means we most likely won't see Cena with the WWE Championship for a year.... unless they make the WM 28 a title match if he... never mind, I don't want to jinx it.

Time for guys like Ziggler, Jomo, Kofi, and Barrett to get their big pushes to main eventers this year. I like and have a new found respect for Miz. He truly solidified himself as the main event and a champion that we can believe. I'm ready for Cody Rhodes to hit the big time now too. I feel he and Drew McIntyre have sat in the shadows for long enough (Drew especially). Time to make the best of what you have WWE. Your Summer Slam now is gonna suck thanks to the new WM 28 main event.

WOW, your whining just because The Rock isn't wrestling this year. WWE will do fine without The Rock this year, like they did in the past eight years.

Well, Wrestlemania 28 will be in Miami so it could very much have to do with that reason. I also think its possible that we wont see Rocky in a match until his match with Cena at WM but yah never know... Id love to see a match before then and Summerslam would be the closest deserving ppv for a match this heavy. This has nothing to do with the topic but I was legit suprised when the Corre came in, I thought it was impressive at first interupting a moment like that I mean all 4 of them have to be embarressed after that rediculous tag match last night. Im deffinately not a mark for Corre though so the Rock&Cena ass whooping was pretty fuckin' epic imo. Coming from a long time fan since the Attitude era began I am starting to like where this is going

I dont think ss has been ruined. But like 99% of the fans I do think its way to far. Maybe Rock needs to train. He botched the flip from his back last week on raw. Hopefully they have them fight together on 1 ppv. That would be cool. Other thing is maybe Rock has a movie that is being filmed and needs to finish it. And like i read in onther post that it was on April 1st. I hope this isnt a joke.

How on earth did this monumental announcement ruin ANYTHING?

I'm going to brush this off as yet another insignificant reason for people to b*tch about WWE. If you want to be pissed about something, be pissed about them once again failing to pull the trigger on a John Cena heel turn.

I would MUCH rather see Cena vs Rock at Mania than SummerSlam.

It shows that Cena won't win the Royal Rumble, nor at Elimination Chamber unless it's for the WWE Championship and he already has it.

It just sounds like another person is upset because a match that was rumored on the INTERNET, not by WWE, isn't happening. So SummerSlam is automatically "ruined"? Please bitch. We don't even know who will be champs, who will be on which brand, or even who will still be with the damn company by then. Shit. It's not a big deal.

Hah...I thought it was coming too, the way Cena was talking got me thinking. When Rock was doing the Peoples elbow I thought cena was gon blindside him with an FU as revenge for costing him the title but it didnt happen clearly. . .He already gave him one so I guess the Rock Bottom made it even for now.

Of course, this has ruined a PPV. Why didn't creative think of this. They ruined Summerslam completely, all for a match at Wrestlemania between two icons. How stupid of them. (sarcasm)

I dont think its ruined summerslam personally, if anything i think the e will play on the WM match leading up to SS, if the rock is to fight before mania, it should be one of two things in my opinion

1. Fued with Miz and have a match against him at SS where Cena comes and costs Rock the match to try and make the rock look bad, and to further build tension on their match

2.build the rock and cena storyline more to the point where Miz and A-Ri cant stand no more and keep attempting to take them both out which will lead to a tag match at SS, further developing the storyline going into next years mania, it could end in numerous ways..... a. rock and cena work well as a team and destroy miz and A-Ri or b. Cena and rock dont work well as a team and all hell breaks loose

both scenarios would work and further build tension in their storyline and get people wanting to buy WM even more just for this match (if thats actually possible at the moment)

The Rock vs John Cena should never happen at Summerslam. It is the second biggest event the WWE has, and buy rate wise, its a distant second at this point. The Rock vs John Cena is THE biggest draw that they will have ever had. It needs to happen at Mania, end of discussion. They can build a good Summerslam the old fashioned way: through good feuds.

The second coming of ROCK VS HOGAN Icon VS Icon, Generation VS Generation.. and you expect THAT to take place at some FORGETTABLE SummerSlam?

Sorry to let loose on you but had Rock VS Cena been announced for Summerslam I would of be disappointed WWE are waisting such a BIG MATCH on a random PPV (and I've got mega love for Summerslams but this kind of match is WRESTLEMANIA quality and the fact it's in Rocks hometown makes it better, I'm hoping Cena is Champion come Mania (doubtful thou) and I'd guess Cena would win but WWE could always do the swerve have Rock win and rematch @ summerslam 2012 either way good going by WWE.

I'm going to skip all of my usual crap...

Stop the bitching if you think them having a drawn out YEAR long storyline between the two YOUNG mega powers of the WWE in HISTORY of the company is a bad thing you are between the ages of young and stupid...

THE ROCK "THE MOST ELECTRYFYING MAN IN SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT!!!!" vs. JOHN CENA and guess what both men will be under 40 easily still in their primes. This is a DREAM come true.

The Rock won't vanish all together. Neither will Stone Cold or Trish Stratus. Why? Because over the past year the WWE has pushed a bunch of young guns and now they are giving them the rubs from THE main EVENTERS. The Rock, Stone Cold, Trish Stratus.

They are still bringing in young new talent they are utilizing their talent.
So don't sit there and run your mouth because they did not RUSH what will be THE biggest showdown in WRESTLING HISTORY!!! Forget a over the hill Hulk Hogan He might have helped revolutionize the business DECADES ago but by the time he faced The Rock he was OLD.

Wrestlmania 28 = Long term investment with a HUGE pay out. Sorry that they are literally going old school on you to bring the money in. Mark this down I am predicting that The Rock vs. John Cena will be the main event but the rest of the card will be amazing as well. You will have a much more solidified Main Event Scene going into Mania 28 and that will draw in more interest.

The Bottom line is The Rock and John Cena will make it worth waiting for!

Can people stop counting on The Rock to save every pay-per-view?He hasn't been on WWE for the last 7 years and the company's done just fine. It's up to the company to push new talent and create new stars, not fall back on older stars for pay-per-view buys.

There's still 4 months from now until Summerslam. The creative staff need to step up and stop writing terrible storylines and start writing good material for everyone on the roster.Come up with something new for Cena.Start pushing guys like Wade Barrett and John Morrison.Right now Cena looks like a pushover and they don't even have anything for people like Drew McIntyre,John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler. The only semblance of a feud from Morrison and Ziggler come from their tweets. That's ridiculous.Just because 2 wrestlers have had a series of matches against each other doesn't make it a feud. They had something really good with CM Punk and Orton. If they can replicate that one spark of creativity and turn it into good storylines for other wrestlers, they can fill up every 3 hour PPV easily and people would pay to watch.

I think fans, younger fans for the most part but fans in general, are just more used to feuds having a quicker payoff than they have in the past. I was actually SHOCKED when this latest CM Punk/Randy Orton feud made reference to something that happened two years ago. It seems like the WWE's creative department has ADD sometimes and wants to settle these things as quickly as possible. It's kind of neat they're going for an "old school" approach and letting something like this gestate over the course of a year.

for all those saying this ruins Summer Slam, you really need to take your heads out of your asses. These people just assume they would wrestle at Summer Slam. WM28 makes most sense...Miami is The Rock's hometown and it gives him the time to keep his schedule clear for next year as he's likely booked for most of summer & fall for filming and promotional tours... seeing as he is STILL and actor first and foremost, wrestling is just a spare time thing now

I can not figure what I hate more. Stupid egregious comments as radical as these, or the fact it is always after the fans are given a treat. So for all you know Kurt Angle leaves TNA, Shawn Micheals comes out of retirement, Vince revives Benoit from the dead, they have a winner leaves hell/sends Benoit back, and that wont be good? Or at least interesting?

So maybe that was a bit radical, and stupid, but was it any worse then you knowing the quality of something this far away? Do you get my point. Jesus there is NO pleasing people. I dont even want to say it stinks.

Rock never comes back...fans bitch

Rock back but he not wrestling...fans bitch!

Rock doesnt insert himself in the wm main event...fans bitch!

Rock bottom on cena saved what was a "horrible match"...more fans bitching!

Now fans get what they want rock cena wm, and fans bitch cause its a year away. i love reading these forums but it just funny how people bitch when the dirt sheets prove to be wrong. Lets be honest, Cena vs. Rock belongs at WrestleMania, enuff said. Not shitting on SummerSlam buts its not WrestleMania and it never will be. Now the fans know, what matter Rock is back and he will wrestle, and that is essentially what everyone wanted!

SO STOP BITCHING ALREADY!

You guys are making a big deal out of Nothing! This Match can only occur in the Grandest Stage of them all! Not Summerslam! I wanna see The Rock Get Screwed by Hulk Hogan at Mania! The clash of 3 Generations! Or Maybe some Sweet Chin Music from HBK! The Rock thinks he is Mr. WrestleMania! I wanna see an HBK vs Rock Match at WrestleMania 29 in Dallas TX.

I thought that The Royal Rumble match was the 2nd biggest thing in the WWE. Silly me... With the main event set a year in advance, Maybe we'll get some airtime to other superstars to set up their programs and to REALLY build up for WM 28. Maybe Vince realized that this year sucked and thought about it overnight. Doubtful though. They probably had The Rock signed two months ago. However, it just gives SummerSlam a chance to build up another Main Event for the big show and ultimately satisfy the fans.

Is everyone in here 12 years old?
What they announced tonight was perfect, for Vince and for us fans. There are a bunch of factors to tie into why this is happening a year from now. The Rock is going to train his ass of and get into in-ring shape. He's not going to just jump in the ring in 2 months with no training, and a 7 year ring rust. He's going to be in "vintage" Rock shape....or as close as he damn near can be at this point in his life. Also, why waste this dream match at Summerslam when Vince can rake in millions AND MILLIONS of more people at Mania. Casual wrestling fans recognize Wrestlemania 1000000000% times more than Summerslam. Everything about this is perfect. The Rock can dissapear again (his appearances won't get old quickly) and come back when the time is right, perhaps shortly after Rumble, and build this feud up again. HHH/Taker II is almost a dead lock for 28, and Rock/Cena could make this next Mania one of the best in a long time. If there's one thing about being a wrestling fan that you young guys need to realize is that you've got to have patience. Sometimes things will be worth the wait, such as your favorite guy's push or a feud you want to see. Other times the wait will only lead to a flop. (dissapointing match, dropping the ball with certain talents) Either way, trust me when I say that this one will be worth the wait.

I would MUCH rather see Cena vs Rock at Mania than SummerSlam.

It shows that Cena won't win the Royal Rumble, nor at Elimination Chamber unless it's for the WWE Championship and he already has it.

Yeah i totally agree with you here man! you cant please these people! first everyone bitches about mania! MANIA WASNT THAT BAD! and now they bitch because possibly the biggest match of all time has been announced for the biggest pay per view of the year! its obviously gonna be at mania! SS is not big enough for this match! and how is SS ruined now?! WWE never announced anything about Rock and Cena at SS that was an internet rumor! quit your bitching and enjoy how great wwe has been, or you can go watch wrestlings crackhouse AKA tna!

I'm not sifting through all of this, this is a stupid discussion. How does Rock vs Cena at Wrestlemania translate into shit Summerslam? Sorry, I must have missed something. I just don't understand what one has to do with the other. Now if they were to have already set the main event at Summerslam then changed it to Wrestlemania, then maybe you'd have a leg to stand on. It'd be broken, but it'd be there.

I just don't understand how you could jump to such a bold conclusion. That'd be like me saying "They booked The Undertaker for Summerslam, now Zack Ryder is going to have to open Survivor Series." What does one have to do with the other? Exactly. They have tons of time to build up a proper main event for Summerslam. Several money matches haven't happened, we could easily see the next rising star emerge in the nest few months.

Just an absurd thing to say.

I don't know where you got the impression that not having Cena/Rock at Summerslam ruined the PPV but I think that not having it there is great. Have you seen the Rock recently? The guy walks down the ramp and does his signature poses on the turnbuckles and is out of breath. Add to that the fact that he has seven years worth of ring rust and you have yourself a trainwreck of a match if it went down this summer. The guy needs to get back into shape by working on his cardio and working in the ring.

In addition, Cena/Rock is the BIGGEST draw WWE has currently so wouldn't it make sense to have the match at the BIGGEST show of the year? Why waste it on the second biggest PPV? This also gives more time for buildup and hyping going into the big match. Also, Summerslam itself is not ruined. There's an entire locker room of capable talent that can still make Summerslam good. We're not even in the summer season and you're already assuming it's gonna bomb when we don't even know the feuds, storylines, and matches going into the event.

Give it time.
