Sources close to the situation have told “Inside MMA’s” Ron Kruck that Strikeforce™ has exercised its right to eliminate the one remaining fight on Overeem’s contract effective July 22nd.

Also according to the source, Overeem has been dealing with more serious injuries than originally reported, including a broken toe and rib and elbow problems.
Overeem will fight next in October in Russia for the promotion United Glory. No word on who his opponent will be.

Overeem has fought through nagging injuries and while set to fight in the StrikeForce™ semi-finals (scheduled for September 10th in Cincinnati) Overeem has stated he still needed more time to recover.

Another issue that StrikeForce™ officials had regarding Overeem’s participation in the tournament is he had only one fight left on his current contract and he would have had to fight twice to win the Grand Prix.

I came across this while watching Inside MMA when the Breaking News came on and i wasn't completely shocked by the cut by Zuffa. That little mix up between him and Zuffa over the fight date on StrikeForce's Grand Prix had to have something to with it. Especially, with Overeem excepting a Kickboxing bout after he pulled out of his Grand Prix fight with Big Foot Silva. My hopes for Overeem in the UFC may never come true, but I'm hoping he still will sign with the UFC after this mess.

Any thoughts?

Personaly big deal, I'm not a fan of the man. But really big deal, he's still fucking Overeem. I've just never liked the dude, but I can't say he dosen't have tallent. Any promotion would be stupid not to sign him up for a fight if they can get him.

I believe Dana will make money off of this, I see Overeem going to him when he wants to fight again. A man with that calibre of talent will not go unsigned for long.

Long overdue in my honest opinion. Coker was a bitch and let Overeem walk all over him for far to long. You cannot possibly have a champion not defend his belt for three years and let that go unpunished. It's fucking asinine. Overeem obviously hasn't been interested in fighting the top guys in Strikeforce for a long time and he finally got what he deserved. I don't care if he fought cans in Strikeforce to defend his belt, at least he would have shown initiative to defend it. Instead he fought in Japan for three years and nearly everybody plum forgot Strikeforce even had a Heavyweight champion. What I find funny about the situation is that Overeem cited a broken toe at the start of negotiations as his reason for not fighting in September. Now, once he is cut, he has a broken rib and something else major wrong. Where were these injuries originally? How much better will they be in four weeks? It's just odd to me and pretty funny seeing people jump to defend him now after shunning his toe ploy. All of the sudden, Overeem is back to the golden boy of internet fans and Zuffa is the devil. Oh well, I don't care. Go back to crushing cans and no drug tests. I'll eat my words if you go to the UFC, but good riddance otherwise.
