Anybody else find her documentaries to be absolutely brilliant?
Now, I'm not a fan of her mother in the least bit and I'm sure Alexandra Pelosi and I would disagree on a lot of things politically, but that doesn't take away her talent as a documentary filmmaker.
Journeys with George I just saw for the first time not too long ago after viewing the her Right Wing America doc. when it first premiered, and it was every bit as good as her other work, even though it was her first project. Great, great shit. And Bush was such a likable motherfucker back then too, lol.
But her documentaries on Christianity and Ted Haggard really showcase her brilliance, in my opinion. Those films are so well put together, and even though you can tell she pretty much disagrees with nearly everything that is said, she's not judgmental and she tries not to paint these people in a terrible light. There's not an ounce of bias in her filmmaking. Michael Moore could learn something from her.
And then of course there's Right America: Feeling Wronged, which is what first made me a fan. After seeing this, I instantly sought her other work. It was that good. For those who haven't seen it, the film is her going down to the REALLY conservative places in America and letting those people speak their minds, since you'll never see any of them on any news channel. She gave those people a voice, and what I loved about her is that she tried as hard as she could not to make these people look like a bunch of psychos. Of course, a couple of them did, and I'm sure those were just too funny/entertaining/******ed to cut out of the film, but at the same time, you cannot accuse her of not portraying conservatives who actually made sense and had decent values. For every ****** she showed, there were two really good, well intention human beings right after them.
My only complaint is that I wish a couple of her documentaries were longer. Friends of God and Right Wing America is just way too short, in my opinion, and I think that's why she ducks under the radar. I'd really like to see what she'd accomplish with a full feature documentary film. But nevertheless, as a political filmmaker, there's no one I like better at the moment.
Anyway, anybody else watch her documentaries? If so, thoughts? Are you a fan? Do you hate her, like some do? Very interested in seeing people's thoughts on her.
