No contest. I'm not even being biased because The Cranberries are my favorite band. Pantera shout, they don't sing. They don't make music. The punch guitars and shout frantically. Each song is the same, each song is shit. Admittedly my knowledge on them is minimal, but I have heard at least an albums worth of songs. I bought it during my weird, experimental phase.

You obviously haven't heard much of Pantera if you think this. All you have to do is listen to Cowboys From Hell (the album) to see that they're much more talented than that. Dimebag Darrell's excellent guitar playing with tight drumming from Vinnie Paul and Phil Anselmo's wide vocal range make that they're best album. While I will agree that their later CDs did have a lot more shouting and thrashing than their earlier albums, saying that all they do is shout and punch guitars is a very unrealistic statement. I suggest listening to Cowboys From Hell, Cemetery Gates, The Sleep, The Art of Shredding, and others from Cowboys From Hell before you judge all their music.

I know I'm in the minority, but I put Cranberries over here because i'm not a big Pantera fan. add to that I quite like the Cranberries and I'm voting for them in this one. No denying Pantera are influential, but it's not my favourite style so I'm Cranberries here

I put the Cranberries over as well, because when push comes to shove, they are a better band. They have not have some of the popularity as Pantera because they are decidedly not metal, but from a technical standpoint, they are more sound.

Pantera's music is extremely aggressive, which is fine, but I didn't see a focal point for much of the rage and the hate. Like a song says, they basically just say "fuck the world." Furthermore, I never seemed to see a reason for their anger and hate. It seemed like they hated just because it was cool, and the hypocrisy is that it was the same blind hatred that ended Dimebag's formidable career and life, which is a tragedy in itself.

The Cranberries' anger and rage was motivated by specific sources, such as politics, economy, war, class system, censorship, herd mentality, and organized religion. Then, they honed that anger and focused it in on specific sources in songs such as "Free To Decide" and "Zombie."

It's a shame a band with the talent and mind of The Cranberries won't get out of the 2nd round, but you have to chalk it up to a bad draw. Pantera's metal appeal, plus the sympathy votes for Daryll's murder, make this victory for Pantera an unfortunate matter of time. And this is coming from somebody who likes Pantera and thinks "Cemetary Gates" is one of the best metal songs in a long time.

I am truly shocked that this poll is even close. Pantera is one of the greatest rock bands to ever be assembled- Anselmo is an amazing vocalist who can sing in numerous styles; Dimbag, Vinnie and Rex are 3 of the most respected musicians on their particular insturments in the world of metal. They are a band with substance- they write great, powerful (notice I said powerful and not angry) songs. They tackle topics like religion, politics, government, drug abuse, and death. Just a truly great band.
