Cyndi Lauper vs Robert Palmer

Please take into account the entire body of work of the artists, their mark on the music industry and/or society as a whole, their influence on other artists, lyrics, music, etc. If you have not already done so, please review the rules of the tournament and the Wrestlezone Forums. Have fun!

Cyndi Lauper gets this one easily she is perhaps the single greatest Female artist in the last 30 years. Yes that includes Madonna, Jewel, Alanis Morrisette and the other ones that have popped up. I mean from Poppy hits like The Goonies 'R' Good enough and Girls Just Want To Have Fun. And then you have the the ballads in Time After Time and I Drove All Night. I have one of her greatest hits and there is not a bad song on it.

Ok, some Devil's Advocate here for a second. First, I disagree with Shadow on TWO points.

1) Pat Benetar is the greatest female artist of the last 30 years, and
2) Lauper doesn't win this EASILY. I haven't voted yet because I am not sure who wins, but I actually look at this as being VERY close...

Look at some Robert Palmer's work:

Every Kinda People
Bad Case of Lovin' You
Some Guys Have All the Luck
Some Like It Hot
Get It On
Addicted to Love (#1 Single)
Simply Irresistable

Also, you gotta respect "The Power Station."

I am not voting for anyone yet, all I am saying is give Robert Palmer a chance.

Yeah sorry, was going to edit this earlier but I had a family incident that I deemed more important than a tournament on a forum pull me away before I could

Anywho, after reviewing some of Robert Palmer's work, I will say that it would be difficult to choose a winner as both artists were exceptionally successful in the 80's

But going off of what I do know about Cyndi Lauper, I do know that she was a force in the 80's, She has many memorable singles that were used in many different fashions and venues

Lauper also gets brownie points from me (although unrelated to this match) for her work with the Piper/ Hogan storyline, at Wrestlemania 1, and with the Richter/ Moolah feud

I'm not too familiar with Palmer's work, the only song that I really know by him is that Doctor, Doctor song which I wasn't really that fond of (but then again I wasn't too fond of Lauper's music either)

If I had to choose a winner, I would go with Lauper, I recognize more of her songs, and I understand much of the influence that she had on music than I do as compared to Robert Palmer

Plus, Lauper is hot, she has a couple of memorable photos that stick out in my mind

Robert Palmer vs Cyndi Lauper - both strong artists of the 80's, both been parodied by Weird Al (always a sign of quality - Addicted to Spuds and Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch). however, i think Cyndi Lauper carries it because of his success and the longevity her hits such as time after time and GJWHF possess.
Palmer was good, and could have taken on most of the qualification rounds, but not against lauper. He did have an influence (Shania twain's Man I Feel Like a Woman being a mirror image of addicted to love), but not compared to miss lauper

Allow me to start off by saying that IC25 and Shadow are both wrong on the greatest female artist of the last 25-30 years. That title belongs to Patti Smith and Patti Smith alone.

Not a big Cyndi Lauper fan. Can't say I was a big fan of 80s girl-pop, but perhaps thats just me. "Time After Time" is decently catchy though, as it that other song about *********ion who's name I cannot remember.

Robert Palmer is, as everyone else as said, a quintessential 80's artist. I think just about everyone who's listened to a radio has heard the song "Addicted to Love". While I'm not a huge fan of the guy, I have to admit I enjoy him more then I do Cyndi Lauper. So my vote went with Palmer. Pretty much based on "Addicted to Love" alone, good song.
