Well if it was another band in here I would have Run, I would have Run so far away. But the original Emo Cut are going up against UB40 who have recently called it quits as a proper band. With such classics as Red Red Wine and Ivory Madonna it is too easy here. Im not even taking into account some of UB40's famous songs.

Come on people, what is up here? How is UB40 not scraping A Flock of Seagulls off their shoe? FOS is the very definition of an 80's One Hit Wonder, whereas UB40 took reggae into a rock and pop genre. And they are a bloody British Reggae band, where are all of the UK peeps?

Let's use Red, Red Wine as an example. Fantastic, well known mainstream hit - very balanced reggae pop music, certainly better than "I Ran." And then "The Way You Do the Things You Do" or their cover of Elvis's "I Can't Help Falling in Love With You."

I will concede that UB40 may not make it out of round 2, but seriously, they deserve to beat Flock of Seagulls handilly. I venture to guess the only reason F.O.S. is getting this support is a combination of "I Ran" being the theme to the GTA commercial and the joke at the end of "Wedding Singer." But come on - vote UB40.

Maybe it's just me, but I find UB40 to be vastly overrated. They were a band that either produced amazing music, or utterly unlistenable music. There was no in-between. You either fell in love with the song, or you hated it and never wanted to hear it again. Still, the song "Madame Medusa" is utter white-boy reggae genius in my book.

But I simply enjoy A Flock of Seagulls more. One of the easiest bands to make fun of because of their ridiculious hair, you can still listen to "I Ran" to this day and it still sounds as fresh and as awesome as it did in the 80s. But most people never looked past that song---and that's a shame, because their debut album was a stone-cold classic of the new wave genre, and one that I still enjoy putting on for a spin every now and again. That's why I went with A Flock of Seagulls, based off of their first album alone. It's stronger then any of UB40's albums combined in my book.
