I tried to recreate the playable cast of Final Fantasy 7 in 8 bit form by modifying graphics from the older FF games (1, 2, 3 and 6). Some turned out really cool looking, while others.... didn't.... lol.... Anyways I had fun making these and thought I'd share how they turned out.
CLOUD
Cloud was one of the easiest ones to make, it was a simple task of changing the color of his armor and hair. I modified FF1's Fighter graphic.
TIFA
I liked how Tifa turned out. Like Cloud, hers was mainly changing colors. I modified FF2's Maria.
BARRET
Barret's gun looks more like a claw.... but I think he turned out good. I modified FF2's Josef, one of Josef's hands turned into the gun and after that it was pretty much a task of changing colors.
AERIS
Aeris was the easiest to make. I changed FF3's Princess' dress from green to pink. At first I was going to modify FF1's White Wizard, but this looks more like Aeris than the modified White Wizard did.
RED XIII
This one kinda sucks. There are no graphics in the NES FF games that resemble Red XIII so I took FF6's Interceptor and modified that.
YUFFIE
I modified FF2's Layla to make Yuffie. Another one that mainly dealt with changing the colors.
CAIT SITH
Cait Sith was the hardest to make. I modified FF6's Mog to make the Moogle he rides on, then modified Interceptor again to make Cait Sith himself, you can see his head if you look close enough. It kinda sucks, but he turned out better than Red XIII did.
VINCENT
Vincent turned out cool, although I think I took off too much of the hat when I modified FF1's Red Mage. Other than that, I think this is one of the better ones.
CID
Cid turned out ok, but I probably should have made his jacket smaller. I tried to at first but didn't like how that looked, so I just modified FF3's Scholar by changing the colors.
I've dealt with modifying graphics before (a large portion of making a 2D game comes from graphic modifying) so this was nothing new to me. Just a fun challenge I had, trying to make the FF7 cast using nothing but modified graphics of older FF games. Now, if I had tried to make them from scratch they would look completely different (and in some cases, a lot better).... I thought I'd share these with you guys.
So.... any thoughts?
