Hodor!
Good or bad? I've noticed, that most the pros/cons to this type match are rather controversial.

Now then, To start this off, we will go for bad. Some of the problems with 6 man tags I've ever noticed, was hot tags, are more horrendous than normal. (I mean seriously, were supposed to believe that a person can knock someone out for 5 secs, then crawl back to their corner while the other crawls to theirs, gets the tag, gets up a half a second later only to be clotheslined? I think not) In 6 man tags its only worse. The one wrestler like HHH usually takes out all three men with series of clotheslines. Which is horrific to watch. Often, theres a lot of action, but no one wrestling can really go over. For example, if you've got Batista/HHH/Cena vs Legacy. If legacy wins, not only do they look better than the three best faces in the company, which is bad for company, also, no one member can go over. Such as Randy, while being the rub to rhode/dibiase he is supposed to look the best, in that case scenero, they all look equal. Not to metion there are several people in the match. (6 to be exact) Which makes the matches hard to follow, and less structured. Because we all know the creative team is fairly lazy. There can't be much build up to these type of matches. Its basically like 2 main eventers thrown together in a tag team division. Except its 3, and usually a stable of some sort. This makes things dull, and boring.

For the good side.
To the best of my knowledge, WWE Monday Night RAW Is War scored its highest rating ever on May 10, 1999 when the show did an 8.1 cable rating. That show was headlined by Undertaker, Triple H, and Shane McMahon taking on Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Vince McMahon with Shawn Michaels as the guest referee in a six man tag team match. This tells me, in some forms and fashions it is good for the company. Using my example above Batista/HHH/Cena vs Legacy If legacy beats the three main faces, while bad for company. It also makes Legacy look more legit, than it actually is. Forcing a fued to further between the three. Theres a lot of action going on, which is hard to follow, and makes things a little more interesting for the fans to watch.

Six Man tag matches as a whole can be a great match. This is because it gives the promotion a chance to showcase their 6 main wrestlers (like the example you listed) in a main event match. There are a difference however, to a team, such as the Free Birds wrestling another 3 man team, in a structured 6 man tag match versus a match where 6 men are paired together because they have a common interest, such as the McMahon 8.1 match.

I've seen it fulfill a few purposes:

1) Cram guys onto a show that wouldn't be on there otherwise (especially the mid-card).
2) Three vs three with each side having people who'll square off in a PPV later so they "get their hands on them."
3) Be able to call it a big match since they're all there.

Truth is, these matches are worthless. Faces win and win...nothing. Heels win a generate little heat compared to things like cheating.

They can be good when you have got a face tag team fueding with a heel tag team then they throw in a face world champion (usually) to the face team and a heel challenger (usually) to the heel team. E.g DX & John Cena Vs Rated RKO & Umaga to the end of 2006.

But apart from this stipulation there pretty useless because there mainly middle card superstars.

I say these matches work well only when they include teams like the Freebirds or Demolition that actually have 3 members. Although sometimes people get together with similar goals or backgrounds like Taz and the Eliminators and they can put on a great match as well. The pointless 3 face vs 3 heels to move along a 2 person feud just kills the beauty of the match.

The WWE loves its crawl over to the corner, tag, fresh man cleans house formula that has been stale for at least 10 years. I really miss the 6 man tags that actually had an impact on the tag team division. Hopefully... they will come back some day.

I would say they are good. Only because of 2 reasons.

1) This can rocket feuds without the 2 people ( or teams) facing each other 1 on 1 ( or 2 on 2). For example, lets say you are wanting to get a Chris Jericho and HHH feud to start ( or to expand) You can simply put them into a 6 man tag match and they wouldn't have to do a whole lote to eachother and this can easily just rocket the feud into the sky. Look at the Chris Jericho and Legacy vs John Cena and Cryme Tyme. Both teams had a feud (legacy and Cryme Tyme and Cena and Jericho) and they simply just put these people into a 6 man tag match and they can do alot to each other with out ruining the feud.

2) This can also showcase there talents as well. It could do a whole lot. Like in a 6 man tag you could do only highflyign moves if you were Evan Bourne and just let your team works do the real damage like for example letting Batista bash Edge ( which showcases Batista's strengths) and then let Evan show what he can do from the top rope. Insted if it were a normal tag match or a single match you kind of have to show 2 or all 3techincality/strength/ Aerial moves to do it. But for Evan Bourne he has got none of this. So you can just chuck him in a few of these matches. Let him improve and then he will be ready for singles competetion ( like he isn't ready already tho).

Guys, 6 Man Tags Are Very Good Building Up Matches, If You Have For Example: A Heel World Champion And A Heel Strong Tag Team You Get Them Together For 1 Night, Against A Top Face In The Brand Or In The Company And 2 Good Mid Card Talent, Ex. Edge And Miz And Morrison Vs. Cena, Cm Punk And Rey Mysterio, Or Edge And Miz And Morrison Vs. Cena And Cryme Tyme, 6 Ma Tags You Say Go No Where, Well Is Pure Entertainment, I Mean, They're Done To Gain Rating And Simply Entertain The Fans, Is Great To See Cena Team Up With A Good Popped Star Like Mysterio And Cm Punk.

Although Sometimes This Matches Build Momentum Heading Into Ppvs, You Can Put For Ex. Cena And Edge Will Square Off At Wm 25, And Miz And Morrison With Cryme Tyme For The Tag Titles (this Is An Example) So What You Do As A Booker? If You Have A 3 Branded Show (like Wwe Superstars) Or Simply On Raw Or Smackdown, You Announce "next Week" Huge 6 Man Tag Team Match, World Heavyweight Champion Edge Teams Up With World Tag Team Champions Miz And Morrison To Take On John Cena And Cryme Tyme!!!!!! And That's It, Ohhhh This Match Goes No Where, Of Course Yes! It Builds Momentum Heading Into Wrestlemania 25, People See Edge And Cena At Least In The Ring Together And Exchanging Some Rights!

6 Man Tag Matches are an underutilized aspect of professional wrestling these days, but only because they don't score good ratings. 6 man tags should never be a main-event, they are opening matches, something to get a crowd hot. Usually it should only last a few minutes, and should have the faces go over, to get the crowd into the show. Also, it serves to keep your talent on-screen, and further their characters.

A 6 man tag doesn't HAVE to have the Hot Tag. In fact, a six man tag should be, essentially, a face team squash. Maybe a brief moment with the heels in control, but for the most part, the faces should dominate.

i honestly cant remember a good 6 man tag match on t.v you always hear of them happening at house shows but never on t.v i miss the old huge six man tags you would have in the attitude era with huge matches like triple h austin takr kane benoit jericho and names like that in them but these days you see like john cena vs chavo guerrero or some stupid match like that im more interested in the mid card storylines atm

It's just a way to utilize players in a fued onTV in a match without having a 1-on-1 match. They can be okay if used in the mddle of a show with two actual tag teams + two other guys in their own program.

I don't mind them. To me it's cool seeing a bunch of Main-eventers in one match together, especially when Taker's in the match.

I've always wondered how cool it would be if there was a 3-man tag championship or something. What do you guys think?
