Getting Noticed By Management
This is simply a thread where I ask you guys to determine your top 20 dream matchups that never happened (or were never given main event/top draw billing) using any North American wrestler that wrestled after 1960. I have listed 150 dream matches down below to choose from (God forbid I musta repeated one or two). But you're all free to add your own and explain why. Again, some of the matches listed here did happen but were just not career defining moments for the superstars involved on a stage as big as WWE or NWA/WCW. There is one exception on this list: Hogan vs Savage. It happened about 200 times. In that case I simply bracketed a reason next to the match i.e. (Savage pinfall). In the mid 90s I always dreamed of a Hogan vs Savage retirement match with WWE at a Wrestlemania in the future where Savage (my all time favourite) finally got his one and only elusive pin over the Immortal one.

So here's the list in no real particular order until #30:

When you start looking at wrestlers from all through history, there are so many matches that could never have happened, yet we know they would have been classic battles. I've thought about it, and here is a list of 20 matches I would have loved to have witnessed, (I'm sure if I thought longer about it, there would be changes but I'd be very happy with these)- they are in no order

1. Kurt Angle vs Daniel Bryan
Two techical geniuses would give us an amazng match- I'd want this to be an Iron Man match.

2. Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart
Arguably the finest technical wrestlers of all time, it's such a shame Hart was retiring around the time Kurt came onto the scene.

3. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Goldberg
A dream match for Attitude Era fans, the faces of WWE and WCW colliding!

4. Chris Benoit vs Daniel Bryan
This would be hard-hitting technical war with 2 submission specialists. 2/3 falls would have been perfect.

5. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan
In 2002 we got Rock v Hulk but Austin and Hogan never happened, I'd loved to have seen it.

6. Undertaker vs Raven
Raven was wasted in WWE, I always thought he should have been the stalker of 'Taker's wife, not DDP. The mind games would have been great to see. I would have wanted to see a HIAC war between these two.

7. Sting vs Undertaker
One of the THE dream matches, and even though Sting is finally with WWE now, i think it's unlikely to ever take place. It's a massive shame he didnt come over after WCW folded in 2001.

8. Rey Mysterio vs AJ Styles
Probably the best high flyers of their generation, with them being in different companies we didnt eversget to see them face ech other- it would have been incredible when Rey was in his prime.

9. Owen Hart vs Chris Jericho
Y2J has said Owen would have been a dream match for him, but sadly Hart tragically passed away before they could face each other. A ladder match between the two would have been incredible.

10. Sting vs Stone Cold Steve Austin
Another Attitude Era dream match, that unfortunately never happened due to Sting and Austin being with different companies, but again it's a match that could have happened had Sting joined WWE in 2001.

11. Kevin Nash & Scott Hall vs Triple H and Shawn Michaels
The nWo vs D-Generation X...WOW. What a match this would have been if all were in their primes. Unfortunately, when the nwo came to WWE, HBK was still out of action and Hall was way past his best, so we never saw the match.

12. Bret Hart & Owen Hart vs Hardy Boyz
The high flyers vs the technical masters- this would have been a showstealer.

13. The Eliminators vs Hardy Boyz
I would have loved to have seen Saturn/Kronus as a team in WWE, and there would have been no-one better for them to face than WWE's most extreme tag-team.

14. Taz vs Samoa Joe
The Human Suplex Machine vs The Samoan Submission Machine- this would have been brutal!

15. Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs Raven
The 2 masters of the DDT face off in a hardcore match, and the promos leading up to this match would have been some of the best of all time.

16. CM Punk vs Scott Hall
Mr Straight Edge against "Last Call" Scott Hall- I'd expect Punk to tear Hall apart on the mic, but take a beating in the ring.

17. Jeff Hardy vs Sabu
A TLC match between two of the industrys biggest dare-devil risk takers would have been unbelievable in their primes. A career-shortener for sure!

18. The Rock vs Shawn Michaels
It's a shame that the dislike these two had for each other at the time prevented this from happening during Michaels' second WWE run. A huge moneymaking match that never happened!

19. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Brock Lesnar
I've heard it was Austin who refused to do the job for Brock in his initial WWE run as The Next Big Thing", robbing fans of a classic match up.

20. Mike Awesome vs Triple H
Awesome was criminally underused in WWE, he should have been a top star and working with The Game in his prime would have been the way to make him a star. this would have been a bloody war for sure.

Firstly, all of my picks are matches that COULD HAVE happen, but simply didn't due to whatever circumstance or decision. I'm not mixing generations or taking the realm of possibility out. These are two guys who could have been physically able to work at that particular time and just didn't for whatever reason.

Shawn Michaels vs. Daniel Bryan
A part of me respects Shawn for staying retired once he does. But this match writes itself. It would have appeased the hardcore fans at WM30 or 31. I never understood Shawn turning heel post-retirement and superkicking Bryan at Hell in a Cell 2013 with zero payoff or resolution. Even in a non-competitor role, Shawn could have been Bryan's mentor leading into WM30, similar to Jose Lothario w/ Shawn leading into WM12. Bryan could have sure used the rub, especially match-wise, and it would have kept him out of the title picture since WWE seems hellbent on that.

Steve Austin vs. Goldberg
The fact that this match never took place at either WM18, 19, or 20 boggles my mind. It's the ultimate payoff to the Monday Night Wars, the ultimate closing chapter on it (that and Sting showing up in WWE obviously).

The Rock vs. Randy Orton
Okay, this one wouldn't exactly be the most anticipated match in history, but they are the two biggest third generation superstars in history. I always felt like that linked them together. They had a stare down during a surprise appearance by The Rock sometime in 2003, and briefly crossed paths during a tag match at WM20. Orton at the height of his heel persona, at WM25 when he had the belt, would have been a perfect time to face The Rock.

Steve Austin vs. CM Punk
It's Straight Edge Society vs. the biggest beer drinking in WWE history. It's the Attitude Era vs. Mr. Pipebomb Shoot Promo himself. It's Stone Cold vs. the obvious successor to him. All attitude, all aggression, all adrenaline. This one is too perfect not to happen and unfortunately it didn't. WM29 would have been the perfect place for this match. Unfortunately Steve's ego is too big to work a card that The Rock was also, thinking The Rock's presence would overshadow his. It would have even worked at WM30 as a last ditch effort by Vince to keep Punk with the company.

Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Bryan
Talk about work rate! This two would put on a wrestling clinic. It's a shame that Kurt isn't going to finish out his career with the WWE. Matches with guys like Bryan, Cesaro, Rollins, and Ziggler would all be classics!

Hulk Hogan vs. Jesse Ventura @WM4
Could have totally happen! Ventura could have been healthy enough for one more match, constantly teased coming out of retirement, and always mocked/criticized Hogan on commentary. Picture it: The promos back and forth, Ventura rocking the feather boas and tie-dye tights precursing Hogan 2002-present. Ventura was more popular than ever with Predator coming out the year before. He would have been the perfect mega villain to go against Hogan. It would have gave WM4 the special big match feel it was lacking, and taken Hogan out of the tournament which he shouldn't have been in anyway, and we would have never had to see Hogan vs. Andre warmed over again and ruining what was special about WM3.

The Undertaker vs. Sting
The conscience of the WWE vs. The conscience of the WCW. There. Easy enough. Could have happened anywhere between WM18-29. Hopefully Taker isn't too old so it can still happen... But I have my doubts.

Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat @WM22
Yes... Steamboat actually approached the WWE with this idea for WM22. Would have been interesting.

Hulk Hogan vs. Bret Hart @Summerslam 1993
This was SUPPOSED to happen. Hulk promised Bret then went back on his word. Would have been the necessary passing of the torch. No one wanted Bret to be the man, the face of the company, but he worked so hard they had no choice.

Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair @WM8
This dream match was right in WWE's lap and they didn't pull the trigger. It's a match that wrote itself at the time, with Flair parading around with the WCW/NWA Championship on WWE television. They were building up to this match, and didn't like the house show reactions to the pairing, with Hogan appearing larger than a smaller heel Flair. But for history's sake, it's a shame this match didn't take place at that time in the Hoosierdome. The two would go on to have a couple great matches in WCW anyway, but this would have been a fitting retirement match for Hogan's original run.

Ric Flair vs. Roddy Piper @Summerslam 1992
Since neither of them wrestled a match but WERE THERE, why not have them wrestle each other on this card?? Give the card a little more star power. It was the biggest Summerslam in history afterall. Roddy would have been so over, there in the UK. Give him a full bagpipe entrance. Heel legend vs. heel legend. The heel antics between both could have been classic! Though Piper would have to play it a little more straight and only cheat after Flair started to. To my knowledge they had never fought and this would have been the perfect opportunity to do so.

Others worth mentioning: Undertaker vs. Papa Shango, Sheamus vs. Batista, Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock, Rey Mysterio vs. (the original) Sin Cara

Flair & Piper did face each other on the Tuesday In Texas PPV with Flair going over by pinfall, and in fact Flair pinned Piper in several matches all over the US in 1991 heading into the Royal Rumble. They also wrestled a series of Cage Matches (non title) after Flair won the WWE Ttle (in which Flair returned the favor and Piper won). One of their house show matches ( a main event from Madison Square Garden) is on DVD from this era (Flair wins).

They also wrestled several times, trading the US title, in the early 80s and faced each other on two PPVs in WCW in the late 90s.

The Sheepherders vs. Mark & Jay Briscoe that would've been a wild and wooly match
Kevin Sullivan vs. Bray Wyatt and Raven oh the mind games alone would be worth it
The Undertaker vs. Bruiser Brody
The Ascension vs. The Eliminators

I'm not gonna say the usual answers like Austin vs. Hogan, Undertaker vs. Sting, Bret vs. Angle etc. Instead, I'm gonna go with 20 random dream matches of mine.

1. The Rock (2000) vs. Sting (1997)
Two icons who were complete opposites of each other - The Rock, the loud-mouthed, electrifying superstar who wore $500 bright colored Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses. Sting, the silent, mysterious, dark but ever so popular wrestler. The only two things they had in common is their loyalty to their companies and they were loved by fans around the world. Plus it was because of one of The Rock's promo where he buries Booker T, that Sting never signed with the WWF in 2001.

2. Sting (1990) vs. The Ultimate Warrior (1990)
The two ultimate babyfaces and former Blade Runners who won their first World Titles and became the top guys of the WWF and WCW in 1990.

3. Brock Lesnar (2002) vs. Vader (1992)
Two titans who were absolutely unstoppable in WCW and WWE just 10 years apart from each other.

4. Kurt Angle (2002) vs. Randy Savage (1987)
Kurt has pretty much faced every great wrestler except for Bret Hart and Randy Savage. Angle vs. Bret is one of the most popular dream matches, but no one has ever considered Savage and Angle in the ring together. There styles weren't alike like Bret and Angle's are, but Savage and Angle would make it work and put on gold in the ring.

5. The Rock (1998) vs. Razor Ramon (1994) in a Ladder Match for the IC Title
Both Rock and Razor were the top mid-carders of these two periods, both were great talkers, and put on two of the best IC Title Ladder matches of all time. I think these two would've had a great feud over the IC Title.

6. Taz (1996) vs. Ken Shamrock (1997) in a Lions Den Match
Back when Taz had his reputation as a shooter and Ken Shamrock was known as "The World's Most Dangerous Man". They made the shoot style gimmick famous in pro-wrestling and I would love to have seen Taz take on Shamrock when he was at the top of his game and considered the top MMA fighter in the world at the time.

7. Jerry Lynn (1999) vs. Chris Jericho (2000)
Two mid-carders who were very popular with the fans and would have put on a wrestling clinic had they ever met. I'm surprised they never faced each other, they've been in WWE, WCW, ECW and all around the world, how have they never crossed paths?

8. Diamond Dallas Page (1998) vs. Rob Van Dam (1999)
Yet another two mid-carders who were popular with fans, more so than Lynn and Jericho I would say, and who I'd both consider "The People's Champions". Their styles were different but both guys were working great mid-card matches with the likes of Chris Benoit, Raven, Lance Storm, Jerry Lynn etc. so I reckon DDP and RVD would've made it work and put on an excellent mid-card match back then.

9. Owen Hart (1996) vs. Dean Malenko (1996)
Both guys were great technicians, great submission wrestlers, athletic, and were both underrated by their companies.

10. John Morrison (2010) vs. Adrian Neville (2014)
Both guys are extremely athletic and I could see these two pulling off all sorts of crazy flips, twists & turns, parkour, cartwheels and handstands in this match.

11. Dean Ambrose (2014) vs. Roddy Piper (1985)
Two great talkers and complete lunatics. Put them in a feud together, it would be chaotic.

12. Taz (1998) vs. Rhino (2000) for the FTW Championship
Two of the baddest motherfuckers to come out of ECW. They didn't give a shit about anyone or anything, they ran through everyone who got in their way until they won the top prize in the land of extreme.

13. Mike Awesome (1999) vs. Abyss (2005) in a Hardcore Match
Two great big hardcore guys that would beat the tar out of each other, smash each others brains in with weapons, and put one another through Tables, Barbed Wire Boards etc.

14. The Steiner Brothers (1995) vs. The Eliminators (1995)
I've heard these two teams have actually crossed paths in ECW but it was in 6-Man Tag Team matches, never a regular tag team match. The Steiners and Eliminators are two of my favourite tag teams, for 4 big guys they could do absolutely anything in the ring and wrestle any style.

15. The New Age Outlaws (1998) vs. The Outsiders (1997)
Two tag teams that were similar to each other in a lot of ways. Road Dogg and Scott Hall were the great mic men of the team, Gunn and Nash the powerhouses of the team, and they were part of DX and the nWo.

16. The Mega Powers (1988) vs. The Two Man Power Trip (2001)
The Mega Powers were the ultimate super babyface tag team and The Two Man Power Trip were the ultimate super heel tag team. Miss Elizabeth and Stephanie McMahon in each team's corner also spices things up. Imagine if The Two Man Power Trip had destroyed the beloved Miss Elizabeth with steel chairs back in the day, they probably would've caused a riot, Austin and Triple H were just that damn ruthless and evil together.

17. Bret Hart & Owen Hart (1994) vs. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit (2002)
Two great technical tag teams that were short lived. Probably could've been the greatest tag team match of all time. The 2 teams weren't exactly getting along in those time periods either, so there would be the question of who costs their team this match.

18. Owen Hart & The British Bulldog (1996) vs. Chris Benoit & Chris Jericho (2001)
Another two great technical tag teams. Both teams had great chemistry with each other and worked like well oiled machines.

19. Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio (2005) vs. Chris Benoit & Dean Malenko (1999)
Four best friends, all with a lot of history and great matches with one another from ECW, WCW, WWE, Japan.

20. Edge & Christian (2001) vs. The Hardy Boyz (2001) vs. Rob Van Dam & Sabu (1998) vs. AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels (2006) in a TLC Match
Four incredible high-flying teams, it's only fitting they compete in a TLC match.
