    Round One

In this interesting first round matchup, the ex-SOLDIER with a big sword, Cloud Strife, takes on the adventurer with the whip, Indiana Jones. Cloud is skilled with his heavy blade, and certainly has other tricks up his sleeve, but will they be enough? Or will the strength and smarts of Indy prevail?

    FIGHT!

I'm giving it to Cloud. Cloud seems like the better fighter in this one overall. His weaponry is overall better and although Indy can pull out his gun I have a feeling Cloud would be able to evade his shots. And considering Indy would eventually have to reload I think Indy would be out of luck. I mean what is a whip going to do against that blade? Tough round for Indy but I truly belive Cloud is the better fighter.

Replay of Raiders here, a fine exhibition by Strife of his prowess with the sword followed by a nonchalant shot and Indy danders off in search of his next opponent.

Yeah, pretty much my exact thoughts, how about he just sit back and watch this match right now...

Um.. yeah, Dr. Jones with the win in about 26 seconds.

We're talking about Cloud Strife here, not some random guy in the desert. You can't base your argument around the fact that it worked on the guy in the video because Cloud is a powerful hero, not some dime a dozen weakling who gets killed by one shot. Cloud's materia can boost his stats, thus his evasion points would be MUCH higher than the guy Indy shoots in the video. If Sephiroth can cast Super Nova on Cloud and he survives it, then surely he can brush off one measly little bullet from Indy's gun if he gets shot at.

Now, as for Cloud moving on to make an attack of his own.... He could have the Long Range materia equipped, meaning each attack hits Indy no matter how far apart they are on the battlefield. Then there's the strategy of letting enough damage accumulate until his limit break fills up (casting Curaga on himself each round to get health back) and then unleashing Omnislash to which Indy could never survive. Or we could go the quick overkill route and have Cloud summon Knights of the Round. Game, set, and match. Cloud wins.

Erm, is this not the human section? What's with the superpowers? A human gets shot in the heart, he's dead.

Not quite. It isn't "superpowers" it's abilities he has access to. This is the same as letting Ryu use a Hadoken, etc. Any powers these guys are known to use in their game/movie/comic/story/thing of origin, they can use in these battles. Cloud can use his materia to summon creatures to attack, cast supportive/offensive magic spells, and unleash his limit break abilities if his gauge fills up. Materia can boost your stats, one of which is defense and the higher it is the more it will cause melee damage (of which gunshots are an example) to be less painful. Therefore, Cloud survives a gunshot, heals himself if needed, and fights back.

Cloud sucks. Sorry Dagger, he does. One of the worst FF characters ever created.

Cloud simply has no motivation to fight here. He sits around and mopes like always, silent and aloof, until he gets shot by Dr. Jones. No big ass sword will save him here.

Mind you, you see how long most of those summons take? Gun shot. Gun shot. Gun shot.

Also, those materia belong in a museum. A MUSEUM.

Sorry Dagger, but I have to go with Indy on this one. Cloud may be awesome but he simply cannot deal with Indy's pistol in this one. Cloud would probably avoid a few of the shots but unfortunatly would get caught by one or two and go down. :disappointed: Jones by Doubletap

Doesn't matter if he's got supler materia of awesomeness if he's still a human. The worls isn't a video game and it doesn't matter of Cloud's got the ability to summon Knights of the Round if he gets a bullet in his brain before he finishes the ritual.

Speed of pistol bullet: 954.54 mph. Good luck dodging that. Especially if you're taking the time to usa a materia before getting shot rather than taking cover.

And he's still bringing a sword to a gunfight. Indy wins.

Tell that to his legions of fans. Whether you like him or not, he is one of the most powerful characters in the series and with the right materia combination he can find a way to win in any situation.

What makes you think that? He wasn't emo the whole game. The vast majority of the game sees him in intense action fighting every step of the way and this fight would be no different. As for the sword not being able to save him, if he has Long Range materia equipped then he can hit Indy from ANYWHERE. That causes Indy to have the shorter range, even if it's a gun VS a sword.

The animations of the summons do not take place in real-time, those are just there to provide the gamer with something cool to look at. The summon shows up in the same amount of time it takes for the command to be used. Otherwise you'd be able to be attacked during a summon animation, and that is not possible. Therefore, Indy cannot shoot Cloud while he is summoning. He decides to summon, and the creature shows up, in the same amount of time it would take him to attack with the sword or cast a spell on himself.

    ---------------------------

If he casts Barrier on himself, that makes the damage be significantly lower. His stats can be manipulated through equipping the proper materia, and I already explained that he cannot be shot during the summoning. It doesn't work that way. The summon animations do not take place in real-time, once he decides to summon the creature, it shows up.

He casts Haste on himself, he would thus be able to dodge the bullets Matrix style, and make his decisions on what attack/skill to do next faster, and he won't need to take cover if he casts Barrier, as I explained earlier.

Long Range materia = sword's short range no longer exists. ;)

I went with Cloud. Here's why.

Cloud has the opportunity to have any amount of Materia (up to 7 slots) in his buster sword. So he equips; Protect, Cure, Fire, Thunder, Summon Odin. There. 5 slots used on a 7 slot sword.

    Indiana has...a whip.
A whip vs a sword that is about 6ft tall + magic. Cloud should be going through easily, no?

I went with Indy. I don't even think he needs to shoot Cloud with a gun, though that is a viable option. Instead, Indy uses his brains and quickness to win this fight.

As soon as the metaphorical bell rings, Indy takes off running, and Cloud gives chase. Indy can lure Cloud to a number of places. He can run to a highway and use his acrobatic skills and agility to cross to the other side while Cloud tries to run across and gets hit. Indy could run into a police station and when Cloud bursts through the doors with a giant ass sword, the cops would arrest him for chasing after the established Professor Jones with murderous intent. Or maybe Indy runs into a carnival Fun House and lures Cloud into the mirror room for a comically cliche confrontation.

Or maybe the disembodied voice yells FIGHT! and Indy shoots Cloud in the face.

    Indy wins.

Yes, Indy is a badass. Cloud can be rather annoying. The thing is, Cloud would still win. He can cast protect and haste on himself, so he'll be resistant to Indy's attacks (bullets included) and move faster. Even without protect, Cloud can survive multiple shots from guns. Remember fighting Shinra's soldiers who had guns? Even in the beginning of the game, he could take plenty of shots. So while he's protected, taking less damage from all of Indy's attacks, he can cast any number of summon spell which would pretty much eliminate any trace of Indy's existence. Remember people, this isn't a fanboy contest, this is a "who would win in a fight" contest. Cloud would win, simple as that.
