Dynamite Kid (UK) vs Rob Van Dam (USA)

This is a first round Ladder Match in the 2010 Wrestlezolympics. The only way to win is to climb a ladder and retreive a "passport" hanging from the catwalks. The passport will send the winner onto the medal round MITB Match. There are no disqualifications and no count outs, though outside interference is strictly prohibited.

The match will open for discussion on Thursday, January 28th, and voting will begin on Friday, January 29th. This is a non-spam thread, so if you decide to post, you must provide reasons why you are backing a particular wrestler. You may vote without posting.

Holy crap, what a good match up! This is one I'd pay to see. Both men have ladder match experiance. Granted I don't know if Dynamite ever competed in one in the WWE but he did while in the Stampede Wrestling territory. Both are high energy in the ring. Both have well ballanced, very versital arsnals at thier disposal. Both do some crazy, go for broke, suicidal moves at times. This match is going to bring the ladder match to new levels of intensity. In the end I'm going for Dynamite, He hates to lose and is willing to sacrafice himself just a hair more than RVD, though to be honest- that could also be his undoing in the match as well.

Holy fuckstick this would be awesome.

I have no idea at all who I would go with here at all. RVD is faster, but I'll be damned if there's anyone in history tougher than Dynamite. THis is one I would easily pay my money to see which isn't the case that often. Someone convince me to go one way or another as I'm split. This is too close to pick one.

    This is a sick matchup.

Both competitors would make for a SICK wrestling match, no matter what the concept. One is basically the evolved embodiment of the other.

However, I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate RVD and think he's one of the most overrated wrestlers in history... but I can't deny that this match caters to him a bit.

I don't know what I'm gonna do here.

Wow. I can already here the "This is awesome" chants!

Dynamite is a pretty sicko mofo and one tough son of a gun. Although upon hearing he was in a ladder match RVD probally creams his pants just thinking of all the crazy spots he can pull out and what death defying moves he can hit and all though is record in ladder matches isnt terrible, winning the MITB and also beating Eddie Guerreo ( Maybe more but this is all i can rember of the top off my head!) this will be his downfall maybe. Catering to the crowd,Dynamite is down on a table and RVD is about to reach for the passport. But the showman in RVD comes out and attempts a frogsplash. Dynamite moves and recovers to win the match after RVD couldnt get over himself.

One on side, you have a man who has so much experience in weapons matches with his tenture during ECW and has so many ladder match wins... Rob Van Dam. The other, a man who would put everything on the line, and I mean everything, to gain a victory in a match that does favour him in Dynamite. I'd like to see this match happen and I never once considered this to be a dream match.

Really, the only thing in this match that favours anyone is match experience and records. That being said, Rob Van Dam is in his element here. He has won some pretty impressive matches in the ladder match and know how to get the job done. Dynamite's tenacity, endurance and inability to quit will keep him as a contender here and adapt himself to win the match.

I think RVD will win due to experience factor alone, but only just barely.

Ooooh dream match!!! This sort of match would be the type to have fans salivating with anticipation. Ultimately, I'm going to give the match to RVD just due to his experience with so many different types of matches. I do think he would win, but he'd be pushed to his absolute limit. Even if RVD were to move on, I don't see how he'd possibly have anything left for his opponent in the next round.

no way RVD would win, he's crash and burn on an epic spot trying to out-do the legend that is Dynamite. He may have more experience in ladder matches, but that also means he already knows what hurts, whereas Dynamite would most likely not even consider it and just go hell-for-leather no matter what. Don't get me wrong, this one will be close but i think Dynamite has it

I didn't see him "crash and burn" in any of his spots against Christian, Eddie Guerrero, and Jeff Hardy in any of his former ladder matches. In fact, the only "botch" I remember from RVD in a ladder match was against Jeff Hardy, but it happened in a way that it only hurt Jeff Hardy, not RVD himself.

So, now what you're saying really is that Dynamite has more of a chance to "crash and burn" than RVD does, at the end of the day? After all, like you said, RVD with his experience knows what works and what doesn't in ladder match, whereas Dynamite wouldn't be too sure what to do in a situation like this, which would most likely cause him to do something stupid and career threatening.

Dynamite was a tough motherfucker, no doubt, but outside of one match against a VERY young Owen Hart, I had never seen him in a match of this fashion, whereas RVD made a career out of matches like these. He's one of the greatest, most innovative "hardcore" wrestlers of all time, and a ladder match is HIS specialty. I don't see a virgin to the subject beating someone like him in type of match, no matter who it was. It's just not going to happen.

It's almost certain, though I can't prove it, that Billington probably had ladder matches in Stampede, as the match was invented there, as far as I'm aware, so the experience thing isn't too much of a hindrance. What I can say for sure is that RVD has the best record in this type of match out of almost anybody. The only significant defeat he had was against Sabu, who was a mentalist. Billington was also a mentalist, and I don't doubt that he'd do well here. Ladder matches are rarely lost because of a failed high risk manouver, and I think it has to basically be down to who is the best offense.

It's a stupid argument, but Billinfgton's style is a lot like Benoit's, who we have seen come short in ladder matches before, so I think that we should probably go with RVD here.

Wasn't the whole point of RVD being on the team so that USA could win the ladder match? He's something like 8-1 in ladder matches throughout his career against a wide array of men. His style perfectly fits this kind of match.

On the other side, DK is not push over. He is also quite quick and a very tough wrassler who has has his fair share of success. However, I have to go with RVD here due to his impecable record in these things.

Though I felt that Billington would have been better suited for the Iron Man match, the ladder match certainly wouldn't be out of his league either. Despite not having the known success of Van Dam, I'd say Dynamite would certainly give RVD a great run for his money.

Both men are about the same size and speed, with similar amounts of stamina. However, I'll give the nod to Van Dam due to his innovative offense and defense that he can use with or against the momentum of the ladder. I'd imagine Billington having to plan and pre -plan all of his spots involving the ladder where as Van Dam could counter practically anything instantanously.

I could see Van Dam countering Billington suddenly towards the end of the match, after both men have pulled out all the stops and giving everything they've got to climb the ladder first. I could see RVD hitting that last counter and quickly ascending the rungs to the top.
