I think Nathan Jones has name recognition. And do you know what that name reminds people?

That he sucked.

People vote for Jones because his name is familiar. But when he is in the tournament, staring down men like Hogan, Austin, Benoit, etc., people will suddenly remember that he wasn't any good and accomplished nothing. Solid posters will not be able to convince you otherwise.

Guys like O'Connor and Garea? There's research to be done that MAY get them over some of the so-called "big guns." It's the same philosophy that got Jushin Liger over so many in the tournament this year - solid posters knew where to research and educated us all.

O'Connor, Garea, Rip Morgan. Those are my 3, but I won't vote unless there is a tie.

No love for Bill Dundee? C'mon, guys. He was a brawler and hard as hell to throw out of a battle royal considering his size. He's beaten some solid competition in Jerry Lawler, Jack Brisco, and others. He's very underrated and would be a great pick. And Honky Tonk Man doesn't like Tony Gaerea, so yea. Can't vote for him.

I've gone with O'Connor and Garea for the same reasons everyone else has really. They are the only bona fide contenders from Oceania in wrestling history if we are completely honest. My third vote went to Nathan Jones against my better judgement. I gave it to him, because he'll get in the tournament anyway and I couldn't really justify giving it to any of the lesser people without knowing enough about them. I implore people not to vote blindly for the Bushwhackers because they were shit beyond belief, when it came to anything bar comedy. I'm not sure I've ever seen them win a match.

Watch Sheepherders matches Tasty not, Bushwhackers matches, there is a real big difference to the matches and the match quality. For Meltzer to give them a five-star match in the 1980's not sure what year off the top of my head, it is still a rare feat that they achieved, I would say that puts them as fairly competent wrestlers.

Falls Count Anywhere ~ Nathan Jones

What do you do with someone who has limited wrestling experience, and a short time of MMA training? Put him in a match where he can use whatever weapons he finds.

Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal ~ Pat O' Connor

Putting your best foot forward is probably the best idea for this match, for any team, and that's even more true for this team. O' Connor is by far the best wrestler on this team, so putting him in what is basically a random match is their best bet for a win.

Iron Man Match ~ Tony Garea

I don't think either of the Bushwhackers would do much here, so I had to put the last of the singles wrestlers in this match.

Ladder/MiTB Match ~ Luke

Why? I have no idea. I figure that Butch and Luke are probably both better off where they have an option to help each other out, so they need to be in matches where DQs aren't going to happen.

Submission ~ Butch

See: Luke

Let's put the team in trusted hands like an Aussie who knows his fellow countrymen... and the New Zealanders. This is how the team should look, hands down.

Iron Man Specialist - Pat O'Connor

This man is an accomplished amateur and professional wrestler who has had much experience in matches that go for long extended periods. Considering this, he would have the best knowledge on how to weaken the opponent and survive for the 30-60 minutes.

Submissions Specialist: Tony Garea

He has a submission finisher as well as a few submission signatures as well. Everyone else in this field cannot match the finisher that Garea used, which was the Octopus Stretch, one of the hardest moves to escape without damaging yourself. Considering Tony is a tag team specialist designed to know how to conserve energy and trained to wear down the opponent, he can easily make sure whoever he faces does not have the energy to escape such a painful submission.

Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal: Nathan Jones

This man is a monster of a man who dealt with the powerlifting and worlds strongest man competitions, being very successful in both endeavours. He also has some MMA training to boot and was in prison for about 10 years. Given the circumstances that the match could indeed be caged, that would give Nathan the edge considering he spent his time in a cell for a while.

Falls Count Anywhere Specialist: Luke Williams

As one half of the Sheepherders, one of the most violent and hardcore teams back in a day when no-one understood what the concept was, this is in his element. Weapons, dirty tricks, using psychology to outwit the opponents... all this is what Luke did on a regular basis and would prove to be his home.

Ladder Specialist: Butch Miller

Basically the same explanation as Luke, but Miller is taller than Luke (and both weight the same). So, Miller would be inclined to be the slimmer and faster of the two and could have a much easier time reaching the gold. Unlike Williams, Miller stayed in Australia to wrestle at one point where some of the feature matches in the indy area involve Ladders. So he'd be more adapted to the match than anyone else.

Team Austrailia / New Zealand

Pat O'Connor - Ironman (30, 45, 60 mins)
Nathan Jones - Submission
Tony Garea - Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal
Butch Miller - Ladder / MITB Match
Luke Williams - Falls Count Anywhere

Pat O'Connor, being old school, will be able to go the distance against in an iron man match, and his credentials mean that he'll be a tough match up by anyone's standards.

Garea is the only other person on the team who isn't totally shit, so he goes into the wildcard match.

Jones has MMA experience, and this is usually translated to submission wrestling ability, if you look at past examples like Puder, Severn, Shamrock etc.

The Bushwhackers were hardcore guys way back when, and Luke has fewer scars from blading on his face, which I am taking to mean that he lost less, so he gets the falls count anywhere on that basis.

Butch looks like a plasterer, so he can probably use a ladder, so he gets the ladder match. Fuck me, this team is going to get creamed.
