Ugh. If Eddie wins this I riot.

Steve Williams is absolutely the better worker and if we kayfabe it here, Eddie would never have a shot against Williams and his brutality. I know Eddie will win because of the sentimentality attached to him and his run in the WWE, but Williams will at least get my vote and I wanted to post to make it known.

Eddie wins this one here. I love Dr Death but he was more of a tag team specialist. Williams had some great matches in Japan and was a Triple crown champion, but Eddie was a major star having great moments and matches all through the 90's and 2000's. His time in WWE was undoubtedly his prime where he would go on to win his first and only world championship defeating a guy who was an enhanced version of Dr Death. Eddie was a master psychologist and always managed to find a way to win the big match. Vote Eddie here

I wish that brawl for al tournament never happened Bart Gunn basically made Steve Williams look like a bitch. Dr. Death was the most popular American in the history of Japanese wrestling. He had tremendous success overseas but I feel like he always gets remembered here for his lackluster run in WWF. He should have been champion here.

Eddie also had lots of success traveling the world but he was able to make it big in America. His ECW matches with Dean Malenko were incredible and he was a pretty popular cruiserweight in WCW. His biggest stardom came WWE where he finally won the WWE championship.

If I had to pick right now I would chose Eddie Guerrero but It's close to me. I think he's more notable and he had a much better luck at the end of his career than williams did.

I dig Eddie Guerrero. Honest. But in his prime, Dr. Death Steve Williams dominated the NWA and Japan. He stood toe to toe with the toughest men in these countries and beat them down... bench pressing the ROAD WARRIORS, Flair, and anyone who was a big name. He even won the Triple Crown in Japan and with Terry Gordy, dominated the tag team division in Japan, which had the likes of the Steiners, Hansen and Brody, Road Warriors, Doug Furnas and Phil LaFon, and other major tag teams.

Eddie was great, but in an actual match, Dr. Death would make Eddie miserable and end up winning this classic bout.

Vote Dr. Death.

The thing is Williams never dominated the NWA The top guys were Flair and Rhodes, Everyone else that came along were either Regional guys or flashes in the pan. He never dominated Japan either he had a run with the Triple Crown Championship that lasted a little less than three months, but, The top guys in AJPW at that time were Hansen, Kawada, Misawa, and Kobashi. Williams then basically fell into obscurity. His prime period was not all that impressive. Their aren't many people in this tournament that wouldn't be able to go over Williams for the fact that his singles career was not all that impressive.

DERP IF HE DID GOOD IN NWA AND JAPAN THEN HE IS LIKE THE GREATEST

We have entered two filthy, filthy ages in this torunament.

1. Because of WWE dvds, people now know that the NWA and Japan are actual things...leading them to beleive they are educated, and seem to have good taste when reasoning that because people did well there (one of themm having been defunct for oh, I dont know, fucking twenty years now) that they were somehow oh so great (note none of this is in direct reference to Lariat. He is just trying to spread some love and knowledge. Its just something I have generally noticed, and he helps perpetrate it worse than anyone)

2. Eddie Guerrero has been called overrated for so long (he isnt) that he has now gone back to being underrated. God forbid someone claim that you only think he is good because he died!!

Well here is news for you....Its hard to be regularly recognized as the pound for pound best wrestler in the world when your dead. Its hard to wrestle in arguabley one of the top 5 matches of all time when your dead. its hard to win a world title and go twenty minutes at Wrestlemania in Madison Square Garden when your dead.

Unless your the Undertaker. But he wasnt, he was Eddie Guerrero, and all of that happened BEFORE he was dead. he wouldnt have been put in those spots if he was shit.

I'll take Eddie here. I see his lie, cheat, and steal gimmick working against Dr. Death. Combine Eddie's skills with the gimmick and I think Guerrero can frustrate Williams enough to get him to make a mistake.

What I try to do is build a case as if they actually had a match. And I was a mod in Old School section for quite a bit, so I do try to let people know why I chose random unknown older wrestler as opposed to choosing someone that everyone's heard of.

And in this case, Eddie was amazing. I'm not detracting from Eddie at all, but Dr. Death was a damn beast during his heyday. He just happened to be in an era of Flair, Rhodes, and in Japan... an era of Misawa, Hansen, Gordy and others.

Eddie could be put in the same category. He was overshadowed by Hogan, Nash, Hall, Flair, and most of the NWO and WCW, and by Lesnar, HHH, Cena, and others in the WWE.

Both are great hands in the ring, and both held major titles in their career. I happen to chose Dr. Death because I believe he'd win an actual match between the both of them.

GO UWF-A DUH DUH

Eddie's prime might be when he won the WWE championship from Brock FREACKING Lesnar at 2004's No Way Out. Let me say it again, Eddie defeated Brock "The Rock didn't beat me, Undertaker didn't beat me even Hogan didn't beat me" Lesnar for the WWE championship. Yeah, Goldberg was involved and all crap you want, but like I was saying even if this was Eddie's prime, you can't forget the rest of his career, he was after all a wrestler that was in basically every major promotion the WORLD of wrestling has to offer.

Granted, he wasn't the man in every promotion he was involved, but he was after all the man (for a little period of time) in the biggest promotion, the WWE. Not to mention that he was an amazing cheered face and could become one of the most despised heels.

Eddie wins.

If alot that we have to go on is close to call, as it is here, then...

I think this is a case where region and especially location play a huge factor.

You're not gonna convince me that a native Texan, and Mexican legend, is going to do the first round job in San Antonio to a guy who went to Oklahoma. The crowd drives Eddie to victory.

I'm not a huge fan of either guy, but Eddie Guerrero would take this. Williams was big in Japan, but Guerrero was big in the US, so I don't think you can make him lose with that. Guerrero managed to get himself over a number of times in quite amusing fashions, and really carved out a position for himself. The WWF's big plan for introducing Williams, ended up being one of their most ill-advised crossovers in history, and it cost them in money terms, and in terms of the career of Savio Vega.

I think Guerrero would take this.

In Anderson Vs Hansen I argued strongly that Hansen's form should hold up for the US, despite him never really cracking North America. This is different imo for two clear reasons - 1) Despite beating Misawa for the triple crown, Williams had nowhere near the success Hansen had as a singles competitor 2) Unlike Anderson, Guerrero DID make something of his singles career in the States.

I like Dr Death. If you wanna see him at his absolute best, here's a link

Beating Misawa is a big deal, as is beating Kobashi here. Other than that, most of his success came in the Miracle Violence Connection, which we can instantly put a line through (same as Guerrero in Los Guerreros, entirely irrelevant in a singles tournament). For Eddie, his prime is obviously his title run in WWE - don't underestimate it because it was only 4 months though. He was the one that ended Lesnar's title reign at a time when Lesnar was winning every match. He retained vs Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania XX. Sure, he lost to JBL (who is actually kinda similar to Steve Williams, hmm) but I think those first two PPV's are enough to make him highly respected here.

I mean, this is still kinda close imo. I'm taking Eddie with the homefield advantage on his side and the better volume of success in North America. It's gonna be tough and bloody, probably very similar to the match he lost via DQ to JBL in at Judgement Day. But this time, I see Eddie finding a way to get the win and get into the second round.

Dr Death was a legitimate tough guy but Eddie overcame arguably the most legitimate tough guy, Kurt Angle, on the biggest stage of them all - WrestleMania.

In Japan, Williams would have a shot but in Eddie's home state and in a country were he had no singles success of any note, there would be no way he would go over Guerrero.
