I just read an article on a mens website that said the guy who video taped Erin Andrews through a peep hole owes 28 million, and the hotel who gave him her information owes the rest up to 55 million. The website then said "I think we should all donate to his cause, since we all watched it and provided him an audience"

To which I instantly recoiled in disgust. Um, who the fuck is "WE" cause I sure in the FUCK did not watch it, and think video taping someone nude without their consent and then releasing it to the public(or even if you keep it for your personal use) is just a shade above sexual assault.


We have had the "nude picture leak" debate on here before, which was thoroughly disgusting, but surely....SURELY no one can think video taping someone nude without their consent and then showing it to millions is anything other than despicable?

Willing to bet that this case had legs (no pun intended) because of who she was. If she had been Jane Doe who lives in 3rd house from the corner, she wouldn't have seen one cent, much less a lawyer to represent her.

As for the guy who wants money to help pay her back, he can go piss up a tree. Stupid bastard videotaping women in hotel rooms, what kind of a line of work is that. He served his time in jail and can collect cans in a ditch to pay her back.

I don't think we'll get too many dissenters on this issue, I think the worst of us on here have a moral compass that will never point to tolerating revenge/stalker porn.

Personally, I was shocked that the guy only got 2 1/2 years in prison for what he did. Beyond the invasion of privacy, this guy destroyed Ms. Andrews' prospects of being a sportscaster.

Her testimony in court mentioned that when she's on the sidelines trying to report, guys are jeering her with bullshit like "I saw your video!" Now she has to live the rest of her life with the same restrictions as someone who's been publicly shamed, and all she did was change her clothes in her own hotel room.

This guy destroyed her life, and all he gets is a measly 2 1/2 years. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, it's nice that we at least have a sanctuary of perspectives on this forum that condemn that kind of bullshit.

agreed on all fronts. My main bone to pick with this thread was being outraged by some men's website proclaiming "we all watched it " like it was some normal porno flick or something, when in reality it was beyond deplorable, and so was watching it.

I'll say that famous people tend to get ridiculously litigious when they've been slighted, I'm honestly shocked that she didn't go over a hundred million. I'm a man, so I really don't feel comfortable telling a woman who's been through this kind of traumatic experience how much money she deserves as compensation.

I think that the tide is turning in regard to the ability of victims of revenge/stalker porn getting justice. A guy named Kevin Bollaert was running a revenge porn site and was laughing his ass off during a CNN interview when they questioned his character, now he's serving 18 years.

Erin has powerful friends and an army of lawyers, sure, but hopefully such a high profile case will bring awareness to a rising epidemic of hidden camera porn.

On top of that (as if we needed more reasons to hate the piece of shit), part of the reason he took the video was so that he could sell it. When nobody would pay him for the vid, he decided to post it online where it could be exponentially distributed every second after. When he couldn't get money, he decided to destroy her life anyway.

I think the sad truth is that -- while probably 98% of the men on this site had enough self control to stay away from the vid -- we're probably the inverse of the rest of the world wide web.

With all the options they have; it amazes me that while it's understandable for the site in question to reasonably assume that 999 out of 1000 men have sought out the vid, those men didn't instead settle for a vid that involves professionals performing of their own free will. Obviously there's something to seeing a famous person in a compromising position, but I can't imagine that just looking up normal porn like a normal person would cause them to suffer too much.

It's obviously despicable, there's no debating it. This wasn't someone who posted a nude selfie of herself on Twitter, it wasn't some celebrity sex tape that was "leaked" at a time that was convenient for said celebrity due to a big project about to come out; this was a woman alone in a hotel room being filmed without her knowledge or consent where she had an expectation of privacy.

I agree that the guy who filmed it and the hotel should be forced to pay damages, but I agree with Navi that $55 million is pretty ridiculous. While what happened to her was a disgrace, there are examples of people having high paying jobs who were fired because of their race, religious beliefs or sexual orientation who sued their former employers and who've only received a fraction of what Andrews was awarded. That makes it seem like it's yet another example of a celebrity receiving preferential treatment in the courts. However, when it's all said & done, I fully expect this decision will be appealed and both sides will eventually reach some settlement out of court that is significantly less than $55 million.

As for watching it, I can honestly say I've never seen it and I don't really remember anything about it. I don't often watch Fox Sports, nor do I watch Dancing with the Stars, so I had to look this up to just know who Erin Andrews is.

You're exactly right that she got that much because she's famous. That is justified because verdicts get awarded in relation to damage to reputation and lost income. Because she's famous, the damage is further reaching and the amount of income she potentially lost is much higher. That is not injustice, that's just the scale on which the crime affected her.

Injustice would be if the stalker got more time in prison because of who she is in comparison to Jane Doe down the street.

The difference between Erin Andrews and "Jane Doe who lives in the 3rd house from the corner" is that the video was released and heard/seen as much as it was BECAUSE Erin Andrews is famous. A random woman in a random town in a random country wouldn't have generated as many views or as much public interest because honestly, who cares? Erin Andrews is considered a celebrity and her life is under more of a microscope that yours or any other woman who isn't at that status.

The amount of money to me is fair. Does she NEED $55 million? Probably not. But her reputation took a hit, she was publicly humiliated and her privacy was invaded. We aren't talking an actress or model who pose naked or half naked either. This is a professional woman trying to make a career in an area that is driven by men.
