Absolutely the Terminator. Thats actually my go-to example when discussing the times when i dont mind a sex scene in a movie, because its used as a truly artistic device to ehance the intimacy between two characters, and the audience. Its really one of the only ones I could ever call touching or beautiful, and also advanced character development and story arc

Honorable Mention: Was I the only one who was all about Selene and Micheal finally getting it on in the second underworld? Seemed like it had really built over time, and once again, advanced the characters, and wasnt done in a gratuitous manner

When I was writing this category up, I noticed that I had only nominated Russell Brand and Kristen Bell versus Mila Kunis and Jason Segal. To be fair, it was because I thought that I only got one nomination and I was working from memory alone. However, I am glad that we didn't have enough nominations to fill the category as it meant that I could do a little more research and add in some movies that would have been criminally overlooked.

The first of which being Christian Bale in American Psycho. We have all seen the part where Christian is having some “extracurricular fun” with a lady of the night and I am glad that I did not forget to put this scene in. It really tells a story about the character that Bale plays and what's more than this, is that it manages to do it whilst being completely light-hearted and wholly entertaining. Seeing Bale sweep his hair back and flex his muscles as he had his way with a lady of the night is one of the most entertaining scenes in cinema and I, for one, am glad that it was included. I would post it for everyone to see but I should be careful about what is posted in this category and so should everyone else. But take my advice, if you have not seen it, go and find it now.

The second scene I am glad was included is the Puppet Sex scene from Team America. I have never laughed so hard in all of my life than when I managed to see this scene a few years back. It is not that it is a sensual and deep meaning moment that makes it a great scene. Rather, it is that it is so awkwardly done and ridiculous, that you cannot help but be entertained by what you are seeing. Matt Stone and Trey Parker really hit the nail on the head with this scene and you have to think that it is because of their gusto and confidence with their puppets that the scene really manages to make you laugh. Not to mention the fact that it is blown up to ridiculous proprtions.

But I will be voting for Jason Biggs and Shannon Elizabeth from American Pie. I must admit, that when this movie came out, I was not a big fan. However, as I grew older into my teenage years, this movie seemed to be just what I was looking for. Shannon Elizabeth is damn fine and Jason Biggs is a lucky man to be put in that position. Hilarious from start to finish, the situation that frames the scene is just wonderful. How anyone can vote against this scene is utterly beyond me.

Billy Bob Thornton/Halle Berry (Monster's Ball)

Not only was Halle Berry one of the most attractive women on the planet, but she gave a pretty solid performance. This scene was actually quite graphic, and realistic. It wasn't sappy and/or melodramatic, like sex scenes usually are. It wasn't falsely romantic. They were F******, plain and simple. Good stuff.

It depends. If it was to be rough and just raw sex it would be Christian Bale in American Pyscho. All his sex scenes in that film are raw, animilistc and just plain dirty and showed how pyschotic Patrick Bateman could be, such as recording himself while listening to Phil Collins and mutilating women (rusty hangers, biting them etc)

Now if it was to be for a more sensual scene, it would be The Terminator, just because you could see the relationship between Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese develop over the movie, so the sex scene was only natural and helped add to the story.

Most definetly Terminator, because it wasnt a sex scene that they just threw in for the fuck of it. It really added to the movie, added to the beauty of their relationship and was a truely emotional scene. That one beats all the other options by a long shot, that scene was one of the most important parts of the entire movie.

I would like to add that I believe that Titanic had a beautiful sex scene artistically, and that would be my number one right about Terminator. Also I would say the scene in The Departed deserves mentioning, I think think the combination of the the rain and the music choice made it beaitiful.

I voted for Doug McKeon and Kelly Preston in Mischief during the nominee process, and I'm totally sticking with that vote.

First of all, when this movie was shot, Kelly Preston was perhaps the hottest chick on the planet. She was fucking GORGEOUS. I mean, she had it all... beautiful face, huge natural tits, and a nice ass. Everyone here has seen the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Danny DeVito movie, Twins, right? Well, Kelly Preston is the chick who played Arnie's main love interest in that movie, if you remember. Tell me she wasn't smoking hot back then...

Anyways, Mischief's problem is that it's not a very well known film. However, before voting, it won't take nothing but 15 seconds to find this if on Google, so do yourself a favor and do that after you read this post. If you do that, I think you'll come to agree that this should win this category

Now, the reason that is so is because as I stated above... Kelly Preston's hotness. And she was awesome enough to literally bare it ALL in this scene. No stupid camera angles to tease us... nope, we get to see Kelly Preston in all her glory. So, that's one. But for reason two this is a great scene is because it's one of only three scenes where I've seen a young man REALISTICALLY lose his virginity in film (the other two scenes being in The Wood and The Last American Virgin). And not only is it realistic, but it's a genuine funny little scene on top of that.

So, yeah... I know none of you have heard of Mischief. It's a fun little 80's teen comedy that I think most would enjoy; however, I'm not asking you to go watch the movie, just this scene before voting, because I'm sure if you do, that you'll end up agreeing that this is one of the best sex scenes in history, if not the best.

Reactions: TSG
While Im disapointed that my selection didnt make the cut, there are several good choices here. I may as well break all of them down.

A Clockwork Orange: Interesting choice. I thought this to be more of a graphic depiction of rape, which is about power more then the sex itself, but Malcolm McDowell was brilliant here. It's not something where Id consider anything as a great sex scene, just great cinema in getting over his sadistic character.

American Psycho: Again, very interesting. This was raw, brutal, violent sex that pushed the limits of the "R" rating, but it was perfect in getting over the Patrick Bateman character. But while it served a purpose, it's nothing I would look at and see as being an iconic scene.

Team America: This was fun, nothing more. Served no purpose whatsoever, other then the shock value it created. It was funny and creative, but not a great sex scene in any way.

Wild Things: Getting sex in the movie just for the purpose of getting sex in. The threesome was alot of fun, and the scenes in this movie pushed the limits between pornography and film. A great scene that was simply a celebration of the three getting away clean with the money from the settlement from Dillon being wrongfully confused, but lacking in substance.

Mischief: I cant really add much more to what JMT said about the movie or the scene except to say that if you havent seen this, or Twins, Kelly Preston is also John Travolta's wife. And they hold absolutely nothing back in making her look as amazing as she truly is. Either the pair was truly having sex there, or it was the greatest acting Ive ever seen. Despite Preston being fine and the scene being amazing, it was just a funny scene if anything in another teen comedy.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall: Id have preferred to see Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman take this spot, but anytime seeing the majority of the lovely Ms. Kunis is a great thing. Kirsten Bell's fake orgasms were funny and all, but I can't believe this made the cut with so many good ones left off.

Roadhouse: Its been so long since Ive seen the movie that it's hard for me to comment much.

500 Days of Summer: Ive never seen the movie.

Swimming Pool: Ive never seen the movie.

Dont Look Now: Ive never seen the movie.

Bound: A great movie with a great sex scene between two women having passionate, unashamed, sex. It's one of those movies though that while if someone reminds you of it, you'll look back at it fondly. But I never found it to be a scene that would pop into my memory immediately when thinking of great sex scenes.

American Pie: The scene was funny and Shannon Elizabeth was smoking hot as a foreign exchange student, but there was no payoff in terms of actual sex due to Jason Biggs' characters premature ejaculation issues. I wouldn't even consider this a sex scene, to be honest.

Monster's Ball: A sexual relationship that started out with rough, visceral sex, and eventually grew into a emotionlly onnection. It started as two people that are incredibly screwed up emotionally that just needed something to escape their pain, and they found it first in that incredible sex scene. It served a definitive purpose and was an integral part of the storyline. It would likely be my number #3 here.

Boogie Nights: Number 2, and it's close. In a movie about pornography, the only porno scene filmed in the movie is done so without any visuals, just facial expressions. But it featured the nervous first-timer in Mark Wahlberg, and the veteran in Julianne Moore. She tenderly lead him through the scene, which was a star making performance for Wahlberg's character. And all through some amazing facial expressions. An amazing scene that fit the purpose of the movie well.

Terminator: Im not a fan of sex just for the sake of getting a gratuitous scene on film, and this was the exact opposite. The initial scene between Kyle and Sara when he shows her a picture of her son John, and talks about how hes been in love with her for a long time. The later reveal of John being Kyle's son was fantastic from a story standpoint, and amongst the choices here, is # 1 to me. Everything about it made sense and there was good chemistry as well between Linda Hamilton and Michael Beigh.

In the end, there were several good choices, but only two stood out to me as great. I loved the scene in Boogie Nights, but there was so much other casual sex in the movie that it possibly overshadowed the scene. It may have made it stand out more- it did to me- but it was a movie about porn at the end of the day. Terminator's scene was more visceral as it between two people who were truly in love, had great chemistry, and said scene is in essence solely responsible for the continuation of the Terminator franchise. Terminator gets my vote in the end.

I don't get this "meaningful" argument that's being made for The Terminator.

Listen, The Terminator is an absolute classic film with or without that sex scene. They didn't have to show anything from it (just give the notion that the two made love) and the film would have remained just as good.

Now, you look at a movie like Mischief... the sex scene nominated absolutely makes the movie what it is. Mischief is a decent little movie, don't get me wrong, but that sex scene alone is THE reason to ever sit through it.

Those are the kind of sex scenes that should be voted for... not this "meaningful" crap. American Pie, for example, is not American Pie without the Shannon Elizabeth/Jason Biggs sex scene. That entire movie was built around that one scene alone, and it drew just because of that. Monster's Ball is the other movie on the list I would put in this category. Without that sex scene with Halle Berry... the movie is complete crap and it doesn't win any awards or gets anywhere near the recognition it got. Period.

Now, out of those three, I still implore people to go with Mischief, just based off the fact that Kelly Preston was ten times hotter than Shannon Elizabeth and Halle Berry, which ultimately makes her sex scene the best, lol.

No one's going to vote for Mischief for two reasons. Here they are:

1) The movie's a piece of shit.

2) Kelly Preston took her tits out twice in 1985. Unfortunately for Mischief, the film she happened to take her tits out in was Secret Admirer, a funnier and much more enjoyable teen romcom.

I'm totally with Nick here. The scene in Monster's Ball is by far the most memorable sex scene in my memory simply because it's the most realistic. None of this horseshit gentle love making we usually get in these flicks that don't depict what actually having sex is about. They was fuckin'. Something I can relate to.

Besides, Halle Berry looks better naked than any other female in this category in my opinion.

I've seen Secrete Admirer as well, and it's on the same level of enjoyment factor as Mischief (the ratings on IMDB prove this to be a fact). Both are your typical 80s teen romantic comedies with raunchiness in them.

However, you cannot compare the sex scenes. Preston bares her boobs in Secrete Admirer, but it's only for a second. In Mischief, it's a complete sex scene, as in she actually has sex and you see not just her boobs, but ass and bush as well. Huge difference there, buddy.

If people take the time to give themselves the pleasure of watching the scene, I think it'll stand a chance of getting a few votes, because it's undoubtedly the sexiest scene nominated here. Whether the movie in your opinion is a piece of shit or not is irreverent... that sex scene is one of the hottest scenes ever shot for film, bottom line. :)

I'm going for Boogie Nights...That was a great movie, and that scene was perfect for both characters, and the story. Even the dialogue in that scene was perfect.

And, you people are underrating ther scene from Wild Things. That scene welcomed a lot of us into puberty. The Director's Cut version, anyway.

Fair enough on the full frontal nudity in Mischief.

However, have you ever seen Swimming Pool or Don't Look Now? Both of the sex scenes in these films are much more sensual and realistic than the one shown in Mischief (a lot of people think Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie actually had sex in Don't Look Now, by the way...there aren't any hardcore moments, but it's definitely not out of the realm of possibility). So, explain in detail why the scene in Mischief is better than both of the aforementioned scenes or 'fess up to the fact that you have seen neither of the films that contain them.

I haven't seen Don't Look Now, but I'll look up said scene.

Swimming Pool, though... we've talked about this movie on MSN, so you should know that I have seen it.

Now, for me to go into great detail about why Mischief's sex scene is better, well... my only reason is because Kelly Preston isn't a butterface like the chick in Swimming Pool, lol. I mean, sure... the sex in Swimming Pool was more impactful and played a huge role in the story, but as I explained earlier when addressing people who are voting for The Terminator... that means nothing to me. Sex in film, to me, is only good when I get turned on. I don't care about the "meaning" behind why it's happening or how it progresses the story... it doesn't mean anything to me unless A) the chick is attractive and B) they go all out for the scene. And Kelly Preston in Mischief is my favorite example of this.

Okay, I just watched the Don't Look Now scene... this definitely contains some passionate stuff and Julie Christie is no doubt a beautiful woman, but holy fuck the editing SUCKED. They kept cutting away to Sutherland and Christie getting dressed... talk about annoying.

Now, that's another thing I can say that's good about Mischief... it's all shown in pretty much one shot. Hardly any editing, and you get the scene from start to finish, which last for a good I'd say 4 minutes. This scene from Don't Look Now is not only shorter in length, but the editing takes all the charm and pleasure out of it.

I do agree with Tdigs though that it's hard to believe that they didn't actually have sex. That would have taken some serious movie magic to pull that off. It reminds me of Tony Leung and Tang Wei in Lust, Caution... though the sex scenes in that film take a hit because of Wei's hairy armpits, lol. Lust, Caution is a great movie regardless though, with definitely some of the wildest sex scenes ever filmed.

I was going to ask you the criteria you use for defining a great sex scene, but I think you laid it out pretty well here. An you'll get no argument from me, with my limited memory of it, that it wasn't a raw, visceral and hot scene. I guess I just see things from a different perspective. What differentiates the sex scene in Mischief, outside of being a little funny, from pornography? From a memory of a movie I saw maybe 3 years ago, that's the way I remember it.

I don't get this "meaningful" argument that's being made for The Terminator.

The difference for me, and its a general one, not necessarily specific to Terminator, is this: There are several movies with sex scenes that won't win any points in terms of being the hottest sex scene Ive ever seen, far from it. Mischief and Monster's Ball, amongst others on the list, have far hotter sex scenes then thay in Terminator or Boogie Nights, but does that truly make them better ones? And that to me is where meaning comes in. The 10 or so sex scenes in Boogie Nights aren't as memorable to me as the one you DIDN'T see. But it served to be more meaningful to the movie then any other, which is why it sticks out in my mind. Same logic for Terminator. While by no means was it near the hottest sex scene in a movie, it may have been the most important scene, not only for that movie, but for the entire franchise. And that's where I look at meaning, and differentiate a "great" sex scene from a "hot" one.

Listen, The Terminator is an absolute classic film with or without that sex scene. They didn't have to show anything from it (just give the notion that the two made love) and the film would have remained just as good.

Fair enough. They could have made the insinuation and the basic plot of the movie wouldn't have changed. But I disagree that the film would have remained as good. Here you have an action movie, about world destruction, and you have a tender moment in a hotel, one that proves to be a catalyst for future events that had incredible repurcussions. And the sex scene showed the connection between Kyle and Sara and that was shown in the way they make love. If I want to see a hot sex scene, I can watch porn, anytime. But it's much more rare that you get a scene thats not only enjoyable, but even moreso, important.

Now, you look at a movie like Mischief... the sex scene nominated absolutely makes the movie what it is. Mischief is a decent little movie, don't get me wrong, but that sex scene alone is THE reason to ever sit through it.

Absolutely. I don't remember anything else from the movie other then that scene. I say this with all due respect, but I fail to see the logic that just because a sex scene is the reason for sitting through a poor movie, that automatically makes it better then a meaningful one that only is a piece of a great movie. Again, different perspectives I guess.

Those are the kind of sex scenes that should be voted for... not this "meaningful" crap. American Pie, for example, is not American Pie without the Shannon Elizabeth/Jason Biggs sex scene. That entire movie was built around that one scene alone, and it drew just because of that.

And the scene with Shannon Elizabeth/Jason Biggs to me harldy classifies as a what the movie was built around. He gets her half-nude.....and prematurely ejaculates? Id say American Pie isnt American pie without the Biggs/Hanigan sex scene, not the Elizabeth/Biggs one.

Monster's Ball is the other movie on the list I would put in this category. Without that sex scene with Halle Berry... the movie is complete crap and it doesn't win any awards or gets anywhere near the recognition it got. Period.

But even in the sex scene with Halle Berry, Im going to bring up that word meaning again. The sex scene is a result of two emotionally damaged people looking for solace in some way, shape, or form. And the sex they have in that scene proves to be the catalyst for them forming an emotional bond as well. I won't argue that the movie was good, because I found it to be quite mediocre. But even in the sex scene, there is meaning, even if it turns out said scene is one of the only things that made the movie redeemable.

Now, out of those three, I still implore people to go with Mischief, just based off the fact that Kelly Preston was ten times hotter than Shannon Elizabeth and Halle Berry, which ultimately makes her sex scene the best, lol.

I won't argue this point whatsoever. Kelly Preston is unquestionably the hottest of the three when she was young, and the scene of her standing there naked is incredible. Going on limited memory again, its a scene where if the pair aren't having sex, then they're acting PHENOMENALLY. But I can see the same thing in pornography and leave seeing close to an equally bad movie, with a close to as bad plot. And when Im looking at criteria, I look for more then what made a movie tolerable. It's in that I look for the difference between a hot sex scene, and what a great sex scene is. Much of that is the meaning attached to it, and the idea that a scene doesn't have to be gratuitous to be good. I guess I use different criteria then you, is all, which is why I picked Terminator.

But in fairness, I will go back and watch the scene again, just to be sure Im making the correct decision, and all. ;)

I surprisingly haven't seen most of the films on this list, but mostly because I'm just not interested in seeing many of them. I should probably vote for Boogie Nights, but I'm not going to, and instead going to stick with my nomination of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was a great scene, very well done, and it was pretty hot. Anytime you get to see Mila Kunis AND Kristen Bell mostly naked in the same scene, it's a win. Furthermore, it was a nice little parallel, and it actually played a good role in the movie.

Is this scene going to go down in the history books as one of the best ever? No, but none of these scenes likely will. I just picked the one I found the most enjoyable.

The Terminator scene. It's the go-to-example as someone put it of a sex scene in the film that actually matters. It doesn't have to be there, but it is because it works. It's something that shows just how much the two characters care for each other and it's sort of a last moment for those two before their final battle with the Terminator. They knew that it was likely that at least one of them was going to die and as such this is a final farewell of sorts. Good stuff all round there and a nice artistic touch in the film.

I don't mind sex scenes in non-porn movies, but I just find a lot of them token or forced.

Has anyone besides me seen the movie Overboard? It was with real life couple Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn. Well, after taking her out to dinner for her "birthday," they have a nice loving moment. I thought that was the best non-porn sex scene I've seen. It wasn't explicit, but a nice romantic moment in the movie. It also ended on a high note:

Francis: She may have small tits, but she has a nice ass.
Annie: What did he say?

Wild Things? Yeah, Denise Richards was unbelievably hot in this film, because she was in her prime, but that sex scene in this film comes to close to porn. In fact, I've always thought Wild Things was nothing more than a soft core porn with a mediocre story.

Anyway, I'm going with A Clockwork Orange. Why? Because that scene was just so creepy and disturbing. Alex was such a sick and twisted character, and you can feel VERY uncomfortable as you watch this one.

Is there some reason why the Michael Douglad and Sharon Stone sex scene in Basic Instinct is not on the list? As soon as I saw the title of the thread I immediately thought of that one. Pretty intense, especially as Stone is already thought of as an icepick murderer, killing her boyfriend during a fuck earlier in the movie.

You are thinking that Douglas, as a cop investigating the case would be able to control himself and not get into a situation where he could also maybe be murdered, but he just wants to fuck Stone so bad that he doesnt give a fuck, I would probably have done the same thing, as she really was a top notch piece of ass at that point.

I'd love for you guys to cut to the chase one day and just talk about your favourite porn actresses and/or your favourite body parts on a woman and your reason why. But I'll play along with this.

The thing that makes the sex scene work for me (or any sex scene for that matter) is a) how great the woman looks b) duration and c) how well they act it out, are they really making me believe they are into it.

My three favourite sex scenes that you mentioned would be:

#3. Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights)

Nice scene. Moore is attractive but not the greatest body I've ever seen.

#2. Billy Bob Thornton/Halle Berry (Monster's Ball)

This is a short scene but it is hot. I agree that without her and his performance it's a pretty crap movie. She has a great body there's no question there.

and my number 1 is:

Ludivine Sagnier/Marc Fayolle (Swimming Pool)

Gorgeous girl. I'd love to see more women naked in the movie but this girl has a nice body and was really getting into the act.

The other ones you mentioned, I either haven't seen or just didn't find them that great when I watched them.

Other scenes I'd mention that I really loved:

Wild Orchid ( the 1st one) the scene in the rundown building.
Unfaithful ( Diane Keaton and Olivier Martinez)
The Lover (Jane March and Tony Leung Ka Fai)
Mo Better Blues (Wesley Snipes and Cynda Williams)

to name a few.

I'm going with American Pie on this one. I remember being in middle school, or maybe even a freshmen in highshool, and I got this dvd for the sole purpose of titties, nothing more, nothing less. I wanted tits and this film delivered.

Team America is a close second for me, as they conquer many different sexual positions that most films aren't able to get away with. There probably someone out there with a puppet fetish that really gets off on that scene.

Michael 'Reese' Biehn' and Linda 'Sarah Connor' Hamilton in 'The Terminator'.

How can anybody claim that this is not a necessary sex scene? Without this scene there is no series - no sex, no John Connor, no Terminator sent back to kill his mother ∴ no 'The Terminator' or any subsequent sequel or off shoot.

It isn't hot enough? Who said that it had to be graphic - it's 'BEST' not 'HOTTEST' Non-Porn Sex Scene ('Hottest' I'd give to the girls of 'Bound' from the given list; it can be argued AP isn't even a sex scene - given the camera angle, we can not even be sure that Jim manages to 'slide into' third;)). Had IC put out a 'Hottest' categorisation, I believe that we would have ended up with a vastly different list.

The scene is everything it should be, in that it is incredibly innocent and sweet - almost virginal in that Sarah Connor is contrasted early on with her free loving room mate and Reese will only relate to females in his era by their fighting ability, despite his war weathered nature he is completely out of his depth in matters of the heart. It also has Christian undertones in that, asides from the virginal tone, Sarah becomes pregnant with the potential future saviour of mankind after what can only be described as a visitation. Having said that, if you think on the fact that 'The Terminator' was released in 1984, many years before the internet and easy access to pornography, the scene is still titillating, as I'm sure any male of a similar age to myself will freely admit. I can remember Linda Hamilton's hotness being a serious talking point during my Secondary education years, a topic revisited when T2 was released and we had the more muscular Sarah Connor (I still prefer the softer version, for anyone who cares).

If you add up necessity, context, emotive performance and sexiness then Biehn/ Hamilton wins this contest hands down.
