Default M.I.T.B. Gold Medal Match - Van Dam vs Jericho vs Liger vs Mysterio

Rob Van Dam (USA)

vs

Chris Jericho (CAN)

vs

Jushin Liger (JAP)

vs

Rey Mysterio (MEX)

This is the Gold Medal Match in the 2010 Wrestlezolympics.

The Gold Medal will be suspended from the rafters, 15 feet above the ring. Four (4) ten-foot and four (4) twelve-foot ladders will be placed at the entrance ramp. This match will be contested under Money in the Bank Rules.

The first man to reach the Gold Medal (as determined by which competitor receives the most votes in the next 5 days) will win the Gold Medal. Following the determination of the Gold Medalist, the winner will leave, and the remaining 3 men will continue as the Silver Medal is lowered from the rafters. Once the silver medalist has been determined, the final two men will face off in a ladder match for the Bronze. The loser goes home empty handed. Votes will be erased after each medal is retreived.

The match will open for discussion on Friday, February 5th, and voting will begin on Saturday, February 6th. This is a non-spam thread, so if you decide to post, you must provide reasons why you are backing a particular wrestler. You may vote without posting.

The two guys who i think can win is between Mysterio and RVD. Jerico has been in two money in the bank matches and lost both. Jushin i don't think has ladder experience. Now RVD won a Money in the bank and has a great record in ladder matches. Rey Mysterio is probably the greatest high flyer of all time. I see just somehow Mysterio managing to take advantage of RVD's "crash and burn" thing he has going on.

I think Rob Van Dam has the obvious advantage going into this match, as the only one to win a singles multi man ladder match, but Chris Jericho and Rey have won tag ones. I have to count out Jericho from the initial decider, as I think he has lost a lot of multiman ladder matches in his career, and the only one he won was after he was taken away and Benoit did it for him.

Liger is an unknown quantity, but it's interesting to note that two of the MITB winners did so on their first event. I think I'm going to give him the gold, based on the fact that he's probably the best worker and with that unknown element going into it.

Right now, I'm thinking RVD for the silver and then Jericho, a master of one on one ladder matches for the bronze, but we shall see.

Holy shit this match is fucking loaded. Great talent all around the ring with each one having the ability to win this match in their own right. However, I think this match will be a two man horse race between Jericho and RVD.

Both RVD and Jericho have had great feuds with each other and great ladder matches. Either one could easily win this one but my vote will go to RVD. RVD has experience winning an actual MITB match whereas Jericho may have created it but never has won it. RVD also probably has the most experience and probably has been in the most ladder matches. I think he will be able to use the ladder better and more effectively.

I like to think this match will end with Jericho and RVD both on top of the ladder with RVD knocking him off and winning the match.

From where I sit I see it Jushin Liger GOLD Jericho SILVER and a toss up between RVD and Misterio Jr. for BRONZE. Simply put Liger has the most well rounded tool set and physical ability to neutralize anyone and everyone in this match. He can counter Rey and RVD's high flying, and out grapple Chris, and in addition has the raw strength and power to man handle all three of them if he so chooses. He's just as good if not better at what each of these men are known for or claim to be their individual strengths. Second only to Liger is Jericho who is close but still number 2. Now depending on the way the match plays out I could honestly believe it's anyone's game between Rey and Van Dam with the outcome of 100 matches of the like probably going close to straight down the line 50/50. However I'm in a RVD mood as I type this so I'll give him 3rd place.

Basically another way to say is RVD and Rey are evenly matched --almost to the point of canceling each other out--, while Jericho is better than the both of them and Jushin Liger gets the better of them all.

I feel as though somewhere in the match RVD and Chris Jericho will take each other out, then liger will do some sort of high flying move onto them and mysterio will sneak in the ring for the win.

I think that Mysterio's speed will help him in this match. He'll get hit with a ladder and since he's so small the other competitors will think they killed him or something and then once they take their attention of him he'll use his speed and dash into the ring for the win.

I think Rey is the one who will get shut out here. He is the quickest of the four, but he is also the smallest by far. I know he's made a career out of being an underdog, but 3 other men in a match with weapons and big falls will be too much for him to handle.

As for the other 3, I really have no idea. I'm leaning toward RVD for gold, but Jericho has been very good in ladder matches and Liger is one of the all-time greats. I'll definitely need to ponder it some more.

Does anyone know if Liger has been in ladder matches and how he's done? I'll look it up if no one answers, but my laziness would prefer to have it delivered to me

It's odd, I'm thrilled one of my favorite wrestlers of all time (y2j) is winning, and yet I'm vastly disturbed that one of my favorite wrestlers of all time (liger) is losing... to Rey Misterio and RVD no less; no disrespect implied. While not overly surprised --I'll chalk it up mostly to people not being aware of what Jushin Liger is capable of-- it's disheartening none the less. However to be frank it's appalling that he's such an apparent "underdog" against men he could, should, (and imho) would easily dominate.
Liger is without a doubt a legend of the sport specifically amongst men the stature he finds himself facing here. He is a better highflyer and just as fast if not faster than either Rey or Van Dam, could out pure wrestle Jericho, and strike hard enough to counter RVD's offense. Even better he's proven time and again over the course of his storied career that he's able to dish out power maneuvers to wrestlers more than twice his size which would allow him to remove opponents from a ladder with a tacit yet commanding ease.
I prefer to think of this as a game of rock/paper/scissors. Regardless of what skill his opponent would use Liger would be able to possibly outright equal said skill or use another skill altogether to overcome the opponent. He's a perfect blend of speed, power, strength, and technical ability. As such he should be first up the ladder and recipient of the gold.
For those unfamiliar with his career he's is a video clip to introduce his body of work:

I went with Rob Van Dam. He's 5-1 in ladder matches in the WWE including winning a money in the bank match. He's also willing to do anything to win. Granted those risks could hurt his chances in the match. He's also the most hardcore of the bunch in the match and believe he would be the most innovative and creative with the ladder.
