Cool ~Asian Mist~ Who Did It Better?

Quote:
Asian mist refers to the illegal maneuver of spitting a colored liquid in the face of an opponent in wrestling. By doing so, the opponent will (in kayfabe) be blinded and experience intense stinging in the eyes. Asian mist originated in Japan where it is known as dokugiri, or "Poison Fog" although it is used by a select few wrestlers around the world. The first wrestler to use the Asian mist was The Great Kabuki, but the maneuver was handed down to his (kayfabe) son, The Great Muta. Killer Khan and Kendo Nagasaki introduced the mist to the U.S. in the late 80s. It was also associated with former WWE superstars Kwang and Yoshihiro Tajiri. Today, green mist is still utilized by the likes of MsChif, RelliK, Roxxi Laveaux, Hornswoggle.
-Pro Wrestling Wiki

The first time I witnessed this remarkable maneuver was when Yoshihiro Tajiri blinded Rey Mysterio with it (if my memory is up to snuff). I remember thinking "Holy shit...that guy just spat that green gunk right in dude's face! This is awesome!"

WWE brings this spectacle back for the audience from time to time, most noteably with (Lord) Tensai's character. So my beloved WZ fans out there, here is what I ask of you:

Who did it better?

And...

Is it a dying art?

Give reasoning.

Got to go with Muta because he was the first guy I saw do it in 1992 or 1993 when he was working WCW.. Although Jushin Liger spitting it at Muta in the Kishin Liger debut in 1996 was great the first time I saw it. Tajiri is great and pantomime's really well with it.

I don't think it's a dying art, I don't think there's an art to it where people have to really learn per se. It's just one of those things that doesn't happen in America now because Japanese guys don't really come here.

I love this thread by the way. I have to go with Muta. His was the first mist I had seen as a kid when he was in WCW. It amazed me as a little kid, and I loved how the ref never saw it despite the fact the opponent was covered in colored liquid. Tajiri was awesome with it too, but I gotta give it to Muta just because of Nostalgia.

I don't think it is a dying art. I think Lord Tensai was using it when he first returned. It just happens that there aren't a lot of people that it would fit with. I am sure we will see it again if the proper character debuts.

How did I already forget that? Why did Lord Tensai exist? Doesn't that whole mess of his debut sort of seem like a really weird, inconsequential dream that you forget ten minutes after waking up (that being that Prince Albert came back with a Japanese gimmick, complete with green mist tactics and sensei valet and beat CM Punk and John Cena)?

Anyway... awesome topic. Green mist is a really interesting detail of pro wrestling. As far as favorite users of it, I have to go with Tajiri. His whole arsenal of moves was very exotic--from the Tarantula to his rolling dodges, etc.--so the green mist really fit. He was sort of a creepy-looking guy, too, or at least played his body language really well to appear to be so, so the green mist residue around his mouth post-match was even more unnerving. Tajiri was great.

May I ask a few questions?

What is green mist supposed to do, exactly? Is it supposed to be a nerve suppressant or something?

Is it implied that the wrestlers who utilize green mist produce it organically in their throat/mouth? What's with that? Why haven't more medical studies been done on this phenomenon?

Why don't refs disqualify wrestlers for using it? (Or do they..? Do they usually look away when the green mist is applied? I feel like the resulting green mist on both competitors would be a dead giveaway that green mist was used in the match) Is it because it IS in fact a natural part of the competitor's body, thus not technically being disallowed in a wrestling competition?

Is there anything other weapon commonly used in pro wrestling that's anything green mist? There's steel chairs, kendo sticks, tables, etc... but those are all physical objects. Green mist kind of stands alone, doesn't it? A video-game-esque move that people don't really question as much as they should.
EDIT: I see in your poll---blood! Via Gangrel. It's kind of just green mist dyed red, but I think it's an acceptable answer.

Thank you for this topic, sorry for the overly long response. I just have very strong feelings about green mist is all.

The first time I ever saw this, it was by a wrestler not even included in this poll.

About the early 80,s there was a guy in the Fed who scared the living hell out of me by the name of Killer Khan!

If I'm not mistaken he feuded for the championship with Backlund and also Andre the Giant.

Have to go with Keijo Muto on this one. I even seem to recall him using multiple colors before. Probably when he was feuding with Sting.

I too remember Killer Kahn Khan using it.

I went with Kabuki as he was the first guy I saw use it. I remember Gary Hart bringing in The Great Kabuki and targeting Mr Wrestling #2. I thought it was an awesome angle at the time as Kabuki came off as an oriental assassin/mercenary for Hart . Mist isn't a dying art but you just don't see it used much these days. Tensi was the last one I saw use it. I always enjoyed Tajiri using it as well, It made a great equalizer to make up for his smaller size.
