Apparently WWE approached him with an offer to be an announcer, I guess on ECW. He must be making better money in his retail job. Shame because I think he's one of the few wrestlers who I think has the ability to use his quality mic skills to put over other wrestlers. JBL made the transition, I don't see why Douglas couldn't do the same. I'd put him with B.G. James. Not worth pushing as a wrestler based off his mic skills. But talented enough to be used in other aspects of the buisness. I find that wrestlers like Foley, Piper, Savage etc just don't work when they become announcers, possibly because they're too recognizable.

I'm calling bull on this one.
I always liked Shane Douglas. He was an excellent wrestler, especially from what I've seen from his ECW work, and he could work very well on the mic. However, I think there have been a few situations in the past where he's been pretty full of BS, and I think he's talking it here. There's absolutely no way Vince would even consider hiring him to begin with. Not with all the bad blood he had upon leaving the company. And even if he did get offered a job by Vince, despite all the bad blood, there's no way he'd turn it down. Not when he's a manager at a Target. |

Combine in the fact that he is now working in 3K Wrestling in the Dojo as far as I know. He is training the next crop of Wrestlers than working in the WWE where he would be travelling. I can understand why he would turn down the WWE. it doesn't make real sense but I can understand it if you add in the fact that he feels like he was missused by the WWE in the Dean Douglas character, though I would say to drop the hatred for Vince.

I would never take the word of Douglas at face value. I also don't know of these magical "mic skills" that you talk about. His mic skills consisted of cussing and burying other champions in other companies.
Besides, in WWE, no one would know who he was. They going to show old "The Teacher" Dean Douglas clips to get him over to the WWE audience? They going to show his business-exposing Belly-to-Belly Suplex finisher from ECW? Maybe show him standing on the ring apron and being carried in tag matches by Steamboat in WCW? OH! I know. Show is AWESOME run in XPW~! |

I honestly think this is a big load of shit. First of all, I don't think WWE would offer Douglas a job in the first place. And if they did, I can't see him being stupid enough to turn it down. Making big money and getting exposure on National TV, or being a manager at Target. I wonder which one a normal, sane person would choose. Basically it's a load of crap, and I take it with as a big joke.

I don't know how credible to source is that this rumor is coming from. It is well documented that the WWE and Douglas do NOT like each other. The last time Douglas worked for the WWE, they did not part ways amicably. If you all remember, Shane spent the next 10 years bashing the WWE publicly whenever possible. Shane turning down a job with the WWE wouldn't surprise me. The hardest part of this rumor to believe is that the WWE even consider offering him a job.

If this is true than I applaud Shane. He's not a hypcrite. He will stick to his guns when it comes to wwe. He doesn't like them and he's not going to return just for the money. Why would he go back to cartoonland?

However, the part that is and should be most noted is that regardless of his own money situation, Shane Douglas won't back down from his dislike on them, and as such its unfortunate. I'd love to see Shane back in the W.W.E. HOWEVER, he'd only be brought in to become an announcer, and with who? Taz?? Surely they'd expect him to become the E.C.W. announcer, and Douglas dispises what the W.W.E. has done to the name of 'extreme' so for that alone, regardless of the already existing other issues, I doubt Douglas would've agreed anyways.

Well he worked for TNA, and that's by far the most cartoonish promotion out there. If he was offered the job then he should take it. He'd be ggeting paid more than he currently is. It's not like he's got a job that he couldn't go back to. That is IF WWE offered him a job. Morals have nothing on money.

Wasn't there a point last year where Tazz was in a contractual dispute with WWE, and it was widely believed he would be moving on? Maybe they figured they'd kick the tires on Douglas. He's charismatic enough and was a major part of ECW. Douglas turned them down, because he doesn't exactly have good foresight, and that's when they turned to Brad Armstrong taking over. Other than that, I can't see any reason whatsoever that they'd pursue him for the ECW announcing gig. |
