I loved it. This wasn't a feel good moment as most would assume it would be, but it was real and it was emotional. We all had that feeling that something was not right with The Mother and knowing she died isn't that big of a shock, but it's still very sad because the character was perfect for Ted and somehow Ted/Tracy was a perfect relationship that ended by Nature's choice and not by any other reason - and we ALL can relate to that bit of emotion and it's freaking sad.

The fact that Ted ended up with Robin was logical, the show began with her entering his life and it ended with them together after something like 20 years. There is no fairytales in life, but there's always goin' to be love and that seemed to be the message.

Marshal and Lilly are the perfect couple, no way they could screw that up. Happy for them!

Now the soul and heart of the series - Barney Stinson. Neil Patrick Harris vision of Barney Stinson was the thing that really put the show on mainstream attention and I really enjoyed the fact that they acknowledged that with "Barney's blog". However, much like Joey in Friends, the womanizer ends up with no "love of his life" even though this whole series finale was a celebration of his love for Robin. The best quote of the show was the one where Barney didn't need to "wait for it" anymore, when saying Legendary and it seemed so real and so fairytale like. The writers gave him a daughter, the true woman of his life and I was okay with that, but I don't know... he was my favorite character and he ended up, well true to himself sure, with a baby daughter sure, but still alone and it isn't how I would like to see him end up.

The show was a great freaking show and this last episode to me was legendary - it didn't make me smile and feel good for them, but it made me think that life isn't always fair and reality is the best way to say goodbye. So much emotions... I don't even know... It was a long time due.

So for everyone:

I liked the finale for HIMYM too. I think the negative reactions are just overblown because fans shipping didn't get the happily ever after treatment. The creators teased and trolled them hard by giving the their shipping couples a happy middle but broke them up in the end.

The finale had almost everything. Every main character got a chance to say something heartfelt. Everyone got their stories tied up. There was a reunion scene of everyone happy together. Multiple Easter Eggs even in the finale for long time viewers.

The story was always about 2nd chances and I loved how it went back to its roots in the finale. (4th,5th chance for Ted but w/e lol)

Yeah, I hated the HIMYM finale. It betrayed the premise of the show. I've written a detailed post in the non spam section so I won't write it again here. I guess I'm just sad that two of my favorite shows(Dexter and HIMYM) got such shitty endings, even though I did not feel that bad about Dexter initially. Man, I must be cursed or something.

As for new shows, do check out Hannibal. It starts slowly in season 1, somewhat like a police procedural, but the last 3-4 episodes of season 1 are awesome and they carry that momentum into season 2. Season 2 is actually rated at 100% fresh on RT.

Also I am trying to get into Justified, but the first season is just about OK to me. Let's see where the second season takes me.

And yeah, I also enjoyed True Detective and am waiting for Game of Thrones.

Saying it betrayed the premise of the show isn't really the entire truth. They did told you How Ted met his wife and the mother of his childs and that was the promise to all of us, however they never told us why he wanted to tell the story to it's kids. We all just assumed that it was a normal dad, wanting to share the story with his kids - but doing it without his wife is weird, as normally people do it as a couple most of the times.

The more I think about it, the more I like the ending. It was normal for Ted to rush into his relationship with Tracy, because as you said, the premise was telling them how he met their mother and not how they lived together - so it's really meaningful that he ended his story at the same time we all knew she had died. And once again, telling us why he wanted to tell the story to his kids was great.

This finale makes the show better than Friends for me for sure and personally it's my favorite sitcom as I felt I've grown with this five friends. An awesome way to say goodbye for sure.

P.S. - I didn't even let myself feel the lost of HIMYM as I tried Friends With Better Lives and I liked it. Again a sitcom, probably not going to last as long, mainly due to timing as people are not ready to move along I guess, but I found it entertaining and really enjoyed some of the characters, while others did indeed had bad acting.

Clearly, there are a lot of opinions about the finale of HIMYM. Everyone has their own opinions and we should all respect that. It was pretty awesome to read all your responses though. Thanks for that.

Now onto something else. I'm gonna start my very own DVD collection pretty soon. Anyone care to suggest some stuff I should own on DVD? Pretty sure I'm gonna be buying Friends and HIMYM but is there anything else you think I should have?

Boy Meets World is the first thing that comes to mind. I don't know if you watched it, but I grew up watching it and it's one of my favorite shows ever. So many life lessons can be learned from it. I already have all 7 seasons on DVD and they have box sets.

I don't really watch a lot of TV - but if I am I tend to just watch sport and comedy.

But I've been looking for another drama series to sink my teeth into. I don't really watch a lot of dramas as I can only get into them if I really, really like them. The series I've watched are The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Rectify and True Detective. Any suggestions?

Try Dexter. The first 4 seasons are universally acclaimed while the last 4 are universally looked down upon. The first 4 are worth watching though, and I did like season 7 as well. It has one of the best performances on TV ever by Michael C. Hall and apart from being a good thriller, it also has some great dark humor.

Apart from that you can also try Game of Thrones, Lost, Supernatural and Homeland. Among new shows, I really like Hannibal.

Seems like you have a taste for dramas with a focus on criminal activities that aren't overly procedural. I don't really watch these shows but Justified or Sons of Anarchy might be for you?

Now that walking dead season is over, I am only following Arrow and Suits. If you don't mind the comic book show label, Arrow is pretty awesome TV with a scooby gang fighting bad guys and lots of flashback story telling. Suits is like Game of Thrones without the nudity and chopped heads with a very stupid premise, lawyer style. But season 2 was very fun to watch for me.

Four out of those five shows you've watched are among the best television... never heard of Rectify though: I might have to give that a swing if its good.

Game of Thrones is the next biggest show you haven't mentioned, alongside Walking Dead. They've been drawing in massive ratings and are acclaimed by a lot of people.

I'd highly recommend House of Cards & Banshee as personal choices. The former is highly praised by many and the latter is a hidden gem that I could rant about for ages.
