Default Week of 8/16/10 - 8/22/10

Monday

Raw
Date: August 16, 2010
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, California
Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler
Guest Hosts: Jason Sudekis, Charlie Day, Justin Long

Nexus is out first and they donít look happy. Barrett says what doesnít kill us makes us stronger. They defeated six of the best Raw had. BUT THEY DIDNíT BEAT SUPER CENA! THEY GOTZ BURIEDZ! So stupid last night it really was. Anyway Barrett says itís not over yet and here comes Cena, now in purple. What an appropriate song.

Cena does the basic talk of we won and Bryan is awesome. Tonight theyíre individuals though. We begin with Otunga, who is a male escort apparently. Thatís rather amusing. Tarver is an MMA bank robber/male stripper. Slater is the Wendyís chick. Thatís very accurate actually. Iím going to Wendyís tomorrow so thatís not fair. Black John Cena joke. Gabriel gets a tiny gay joke about him. Sheffield gets the Meow Mix song. This is a funny promo.

Cole gets an e-mail and a lot of booing. Tonight thereís a series of matches with Nexus vs. Team WWE. According to Barrett if anyone in Nexus loses tonight theyíre out. A second e-mail says Nexus gets to pick the lineup other than the Barrett match, which is against Jericho and next.

Wade Barrett vs. Chris Jericho

Well this should be good. Pretty back and forth match to start as I really donít know who is -going to win here. Iíd bet on Barrett though if I had to pick someone. Barrett controls for the most part but this is pretty clearly going to be a quick match. Jericho is wrestling like a face here which fits him very well. Walls get reversed as does Wasteland.

There are the Walls to a BIG face pop but he makes the ropes. There of course is a big boot for two. Jericho gets a nice counter into a running enziguri. Codebreaker is reversed into Wasteland for the totally clean pin. I wouldnít have be on that one. Wait yes I did. Iím a genius!

The guest hosts are here and they are freaking annoying as hell. They do cheap tactics like talking about the Miami Heat etc and bring out the Hart Dynasty. Cue e-mail. The Unified Tag Titles are gone and are now the WWE Tag Team Titles, complete with NEW BELTS. Itís about time. Bret brings out the new titles. Nexus pops up on screen and itís Gabriel vs. Hart later.

We go through the Daniel Bryan return last night to set up this.

Daniel Bryan vs. Michael Tarver

Bryan gets a chant to start us off and Cole hates him even more. Tarver throws punches which is all he can seem to do. Bryan takes over and hits a missile dropkick. And here are Miz and Riley. Tarver gets a rollup to beat Daniel Bryan! Let the IWC explode. Danielson fights all three of them and it goes badly, ending with a Skull Crushing Finale on the MITB case. He actually DENTED THE CASE. FREAKING OW MAN!

Legendary trailer again.

Miz and Riley talk about how much better they are than Bryan.

Nexus is in the back still and Young makes an overly dramatic announcement that he wants Cena. These guys CANNOT ACT.

Justin Gabriel vs. Bret Hart

After Gabrielís entrance and a commercial, we get an e-mail saying no Bret in the match tonight. The GM doesnít like Bret and doesnít want him competing ever again. Wait what the hell? The new opponent isÖ

Justin Gabriel vs. Randy Orton

UhÖsure. Well cue Sheamusí run in Iíd bet. This is kind of a long standoff with Gabriel doing a lot of martial arts looking stuff. Orton uses clotheslines of course. I like that powerslam. This is one sided already. DDT drills Gabriel and itís RKO time. Sheamus is here for the brawl but thereís no DQ called. They head into the crowd and itís a count out. Cheap but effective. RKO to Gabriel just because he can. Orton KILLS Sheamus with a chair afterwards, hitting like 10 SICK shots to the back. Sheamus gets up of course and takes the RKO on the floor.

Skip Sheffield/David Otunga vs. John Morrison/R-Truth

So I guess that means Edge vs. Slater and Young vs. Cena. Those arenít that appealing. There isnít much here as Sheffield dominates for the most part as you would expect. Truth gets knocked off and Morrison takes the big clothesline from Sheffield to have 5 Nexus members staying around.

Melina/Gail Kim/Eve Torres vs. Alicia Fox/Maryse/Jillian Hall

Jon Lovitz is in the crowd. Oh good night. Gail botches a cross body as we keep looking at Lovitz. Everything breaks down and itís Jillian vs. Eve in the ring. A nice springboard kick by Eve is no sold and Jillian gets a rollup for the pin.

Edge says he captained the team last night and Slater pops up. He wants to cut a deal and have Edge not show up. Edge says no because he doesnít want to lose to a Wendy looking, ginger haired Edge wannabe. Slater hits him and Edge looks EVIL at him.

Heath Slater vs. Edge

I have a feeling Slater goes home here. Slater misses a splash and Edge takes over. This is a rather boring match as theyíre just kind of going through the motions here. We hit the floor and Edge waits on the spear forever. Slater steps to the side and slides in for the WIN! Spear afterwards. Total face match for Edge here.

Khali is here in the back with Singh and one of the guest hosts. Khali has a girlfriend now but she lives in India. The guest host thinks sheís ugly and the others agree. Khali speaks English now, or at least he understands it. The Bellas show up and he leaves with them. Was there a point to this at all?

Summerslam Recall is the week in review they did last night.

Darren Young vs. John Cena

No intro for Young. Thatís likely a bad sign. Thereís a good amount of time left though so this might not be so bad. We hear that WWEís Facebook has over 1 millions fans as of right now. Thatís kind of cool I guess. Nexus stands on the stage for this. Young actually dominates here for the most part with some basic stuff. He dropkicks the steps into Cenaís head and they tease another count out. Cena is of course in 9.8 but it was a nice false finish.

Cena initiates the ending sequence but the FU is countered. STFU goes on and Young is out of Nexus. Nexus surrounds Cena after the match but cena gets away. Yep Young is about to get a beatdown. Lawler calls him Daniel Bryan for some reason as he gets destroyed.

Tuesday

Raw got a 3.3, the same as like 3 weeks in a row.

NXT
Date: August 17, 2010
Location: Rabobank Arena, Bakersfield, California
Commentators: Michael Cole, Josh Matthews

Two eliminations tonight as the finals are two weeks away. Letís get to it. Wow that was a short intro but what else do you want me to say here?

The Rookies come to the ring. They get a minute to talk about whatever they want.

Watson talks about 3D: Desire, determination, dedication. You know the basic idea here.

Rileyís topic is Alex Riley. He runs down the rookies, especially Cannon. He goes overboard as always.

McGillicutty talks about his competition. Watson is scared, Kaval has a funny voice and that a Chihuahua never wins a fight, Harris has nothing said about him and Riley talks too much. McGillicutty is the winner and a future champion. He times it perfectly too, ending a split second before the bell.

Kavalís topic is NXT. He has two great women behind him instead of one. He raps actually and itís rather bad. Ok saying Harris doesnít break labels but rather buffet tables. Oh and heís the reason for TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION. Hokey smoke.

Harris talks about cowboy boots. They happen to be Barry Windhamís cowboy boots. The Devil wears cowboy boots too. This wasÖyeah.

First elimination is RIGHT NOW. No poll, just a wheel thing like in the Draft. Watson is gone, which I think makes sense actually. He looks legit sad but thanks the fans and MVP. Heís going to continue to have fun and a good time. He does the catchphrase and comes off as very classy here. He shakes Kavalís hand and no one elseís before leaving.

Michael McGillicutty vs. Zach Ryder

Well down goes the pro again. The announcers argue over who the best star from Long Island ever is: Ryder or Striker. Here lies Mick Foleyís memory I guess. Michael misses a baseball slide and Ryder takes over with a, say it with me, big boot. McGillicutty takes over again and is being very aggressive here which is different for him. And the Rough Ryder ends it perfectly clean? WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?

Laycool pump up Kaval. Michelle asks Layla about liking Kaval and she seems to just a bit. Michelle doesnít seem to mind though. She does mind Harris hitting on her though.

Husky Harris vs. Kaval

Harris gets caught in a choke but that doesnít last long. Kaval hits his kicks but runs into a REALLY bad spinning Rock Bottom. This isnít much at all. He goes for it again and gets caught in a DDT. Warriorís Way hits PERFECTLY and itís over.

Alex Riley vs. Kofi Kingston

Riley dominates to start and still has that tape on his arm. Riley jumps into a boot and the Boom Drop and Trouble in Paradise end this rather quickly.

We see the same Summerslam in LA package weíve seen the last two nights.

LONG Raw recap as we try to fill time.

Cole says Alex Riley should win and Kaval should be gone. Matthews says the same actually.

They do the wheel thing again and itís Harris gone. Well I didnít see that coming. Rhodes FREAKS. He says Ryder should have good luck in their future endeavors. Even Harris tries to cool him off, saying itís his time. Rhodes tells Riley to make an impact. McGillicutty wants to be Mr. Perfect Jr. but doesnít deserve it. Kaval gets a double beatdown but MVP and Kofi come down for the save. Big brawl ends it. Kaval does a big dive to Husky which looked like it totally missed.

Results
Percy Watson was eliminated in 5th place
Zach Ryder b. Michael McGillicutty Ė Rough Ryder
Kaval b. Husky Harris Ė Warriorís Way
Kofi Kingston b. Alex Riley Ė Trouble in Paradise
Husky Harris was eliminated in 4th place

Wednesday

This was a weird day. A lot of stuff happened but nothing really worth talking about.

Thursday

Skip Sheffield might have been injured at a house show. Thatís all we know so far.

Homicide might be gone from TNA.

NXT got a .88.

Impact
Date: August 19, 2010
Location: Impact Zone, Orlando, Florida
Commentators: Taz, Mike Tenay
Episode Title:

So this is the wekk after the Whole FíN Show and the run-in by Fourtune as they beat down the ECW guys, which Iíd bet sets up a big match between them at No Surrender, which Iím SURE wonít be looked at as a Summerslam Team Cena vs. Nexus match AT ALL. I mean itís not like itís invaders vs. the homegrown guys or anything like that at all.

We open with a fight between Hardy and Abyss from earlier tonight where theyíre not sure if theyíre supposed to call it or not. The arena is half empty here. You have to watch Reaction to get this as Hardy said heíd be on the side of the ECW guys. There are maybe 100 people in the Impact Zone other than crew. Jeffís ass is partially hanging out so they blur it which takes away a LOT of the effectiveness of this. Security pulls Hardy away after like 5 minutes of this and we go ďliveĒ.

Bischoff is here and says Flair is to blame for this. He says Abyss will pay for what he did to RVD and that RVD has over 117 stitches in him and heíll be gone for awhile. The title is now VACANT, so weíre going to have a tournament starting tonight and it ends at BFG.

World Title Tournament Ė First Round: Rob Terry vs. Jeff Hardy

Well this should be one sided Iíd think. Hardy is in street clothes. Ok let me clarify that. Heís in traditional street clothes rather than his normal street clothes that he wrestles in. Heís also hurt from that fight earlier. Terry dominates kind of but Hardy fights him off. Twist of Stunner and Swanton, as in the legs to Terryís chest, end it. This was almost a squash. Not quite, but it was close.

Fourtune is here, all 6-7 guys in it.

Hogan is on the phone and is thinking about quitting. Attacking RVD was like assassinating the president. Wow.

World Title Tournament Ė First Round: Mr. Anderson vs. Jay Lethal

This should be good if nothing else. Anderson goes for the Mic Check very early. Heís probably the best choice for the title so Iíd bet against him winning it. The fans chant asshole, because thatís just what they do I guess. Lethal does the Tajiri elbow and of course they chant TNA. Ok the semi-finals are at No Surrender, so weíre not going to get any tournament stuff for two weeks. Mic Check ends clean.

Love has another match with Madison here tonight. Seriously, Love is gorgeous.

We see clips of the Guns winning the titles last week. Their finisher is called Skull and Bones, which helps a lot since itís annoying to call it the neckbreaker/cross body combination. The Guns do some sound bytes where the lights are off so you canít tell who they are but why would that be important? Theyíll be in a match next week. By that I mean the Guns, not THEY.

Knockouts Title: Madison Rayne vs. Angelina Love

Madison comes out on the bike with the biker chick. Does no one see that chick in the back? Velvet comes out with Angelina as her backup. Love beats up the biker chick and Madison fights Skye, since you know, that makes sense. Ah now they get in the ring and have the scheduled match, making the brawl pretty pointless. Botox Injection (bicycle kick) ends it. The heels beat the girls down afterwards.

Fourtune is here which now has 7 people if you count Flair. Flair talks about how great they are and that Morgan is the insurance policy. He talks about how great they are and how this is wrestling, not garbage violence. That makes sense and is a face line, but since this is TNA that canít happen so whatever. AJ says this is the house he built, so hereís Dixie.

She says this is her house because she owns it. No but whatever. She brings out the ECW guys and they have contracts. Foley talks about a phone call he got from Flair where Flair was drunk and didnít know what to do so Foley told him to come to TNA. Looks like Flair vs. Foley is coming. Flair says he doesnít work for Dixie and the segment just kinds of ends.

Angle talks about being in the tournament, meaning heís going to skip the whole get through the top ten thing.

World Title Tournament Ė First Round: Douglas Williams vs. Kurt Angle

If Angle loses he retires, meaning of course that heís going to win and will likely win the whole thing. AJ vs. Dreamer later, meaning AJ isnít in the tournament, which is BRILLIANT naturally. This is your standard match as they do their back and forth stuff. Both finishers are blocked and the ankle lock ends it clean. Yeah it was that short.

Anderson talks about RVD into a mirror for some reason.

Sting and Nash come out with Sting in white paint. Nash says he loves the business and isnít in it for the money, which isnít his deal at all but whatever. He says no one is throwing him out and if someone wants his spot to come take it. The cancer is in the back, of course not saying who, and hereís Jarrett. Since heís been involved with Nash the last two times heís been there, Tenay is surprised to see him.

Jarrett says the locker room is tired of the games Nash and Sting have been playing. Of course he praises Hogan and Bischoff and dedicates the beating heís giving Sting and Nash tonight to Hogan and Bischoff. Cue Hogan and itís a big war ofÖ.words. Sting throws the bat away and here come the faces I guess.

The lights go out and itís Fourtune, beating all four of them up. Itís BRUTAL mind you.

The ECW guys are trying to explain the plan to Raven.

World Title Tournament Ė First Round: Matt Morgan vs. DíAngelo Dinero

So Morgan pinning Dinero last week apparently is grounds for having another match. Morgan uses size and power stuff of course as he is known to do. Heís more or less dominating and hits a two handed chokeslam then slaps Pope. Morgan goes to the floor and misses the big boot into the post, so Dinero rolls him in and pins him. Four faces in the semifinals? It looks like Hardy vs. Angle and Anderson vs. Pope.

Foley says heís injured but is with EV 2.0.

AJ Styles vs. Tommy Dreamer

Tommy has these finger gloves like Taker tends to wear. Dreamer is bleeding. This isnít much at all. AJ is of course cheered because he wrestles like a face and is the most popular guy in the company so letís just make him a heel. Dreamer gets the DDT but canít cover. Hereís Fourtune and the ECW guys run in for the big brawl. Abyss pops out from under the ring and being the hardcore dude that he is hits the Black Hole Slam on Dreamer for the pin.

The other main issue I have here is the wrestling. Angle vs. Williams was solid, but when there are six matches and only one, Styles vs. Dreamer which involved a big brawl and a run-in, breaks 6 minutes itís not much. With most of the matches being under five minutes itís really hard to get anything going on the show. Everything is so stop and go and itís hard to get into it. Most of the talking goes longer than the matches, which is never a good sign.

The final issue I have revolves around the tournament. Tournaments are cool, but weíre not going to have anything else to do with it until No Surrender and then nothing else to do with it again for four more weeks. There will be a lot of hype, but with only hype youíre going to get bored and tired of hearing about it. None of the final combinations are matches you can drag out for four weeks of buildup while expecting a classic. Itís a fun idea, but not for seven weeks with seven total matches.

The show is ok but there are a lot of flaws with it. Iím worried about whatís coming in the next few weeks. Other than the Guns, what reason would someone have to tune in next week? The tournament is off the table three weeks on Impact and nothing was really promised for next week other than more of the same with faction wars. Unless youíre into that, what reason would you have to watch the show next week? I canít think of one, and thatís a really bad sign.

Results
Jeff Hardy b. Rob Terry Ė Swanton Bomb
Mr. Anderson b. Jay Lethal Ė Mic Check
Angelina Love b. Madison Rayne Ė Botox Injection
Kurt Angle b. Douglas Williams Ė Ankle Lock
DíAngelo Dinero b. Matt Morgan Ė Pin after Morgan missed a big boot
AJ Styles b. Tommy Dreamer Ė Pin after a Black Hole Slam from Abyss

Friday

Impact is under a .98 with the final number not out yet. Thatís really bad given that this is the big angle thatís going to cover the next two months.

Smackdown
Date: August 20, 2010
Location: Rabobank Arena, Bakersfield, California
Commentators: Todd Grisham, Matt Striker

Itís the follow up show to Summerslam, which featured the return of the Undertaker and the SHOCKING, yes SHOCKING I say revelation that it was Kane that attacked him. The twist this time is that Taker is weak from the vegetative state and itís Kane that has the power.

I know a lot of people have called this a rehash of the old storylines, but answer this: what percentage of the current WWE audience was around for the initial Kane vs. Taker feud? Itís only repetitive for those of us that have been fans for over 12 years, which isnít very many of the people. Letís get to it.

I like that this show tends to start with the theme song and nothing before it. It just feels right if that makes sense.

We recap the Kane/Rey/Taker angle from Sunday and Kane will explain himself tonight.

Hereís Rey to kick things off. Rey thanks the fans for Sunday, even though he lost which is a strange thing to thank people for. His name is cleared now as Kane attacked Taker. I still wonder how Kane knew that. And hereís Alberto Del Rio, FINALLY debuting after about a million promos that I had no interest in at all.

Alberto praises Rey and says both are national heroes. His voice sounds like Speedy Gonzalez. Rey is a little worm in the bottle of his tequila. Thatís a funny line I think, but I donít drink tequila so maybe itís stupid. Alberto talks about his nice clothes and Rey says his nephew has the same kind of cufflinks that he bought at the swap meet.

Rey says Del Rio hasnít earned anyoneís respect here at all. I know Rey speaks Spanish for the crowds and I can understand most of what he says, but for a lot of people it makes no sense at all. The obvious match is set up for later. 619 for Alberto.

Kofi vs. Dolph is next.

More Dashing grooming tips, this time about skin. I love these old school style vignettes which fit his old school style very well.

Intercontinental Title: Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston

Iíve liked this feud as itís brought out some much needed aggression in Kofi. Striker has another new name for the Nexus: the Seven Deadly Sinners. Canít they just be Nexus? Do we need a new name for a group of guys already on their second name?

Kofi throws a nice right hand to send Dolph to the floor as this is rather aggressive to start. Striker doesnít like the internet people apparently. It must be a thing for annoying commentators.

Dolph hooks a chinlock, which makes me wonder how thatís different than the sleeper. Is the arm over the forehead that much of a difference? Kofi gets knocked to the floor after some Vickie interference and we take a break.

Ziggler works on the neck for the most part due to the Nexus attack on Sunday. We get the usual thing about how the IC Title leads to the world title, even though most of the time lately that hasnít been the case. A lot of people have been former world champions though so maybe that counts.

Kofi starts a comeback with lots of things that involve jumping very high but the Boom Drop is avoided. Pendulum kick in the corner and Kofi goes up top, but Vickie shoves him off for the DQ. Chimmelís voice is kind of slurred as he makes the announcement for some reason.

Post match Kofi goes after Dolph but Vickie stops him, allowing Dolph to get a Zig Zag and sleeper on Kofi.

The same Summerslam package from the last three shows is on again.

Laycool with their broken title is in the back and they donít want Teddy to hear what they have planned. Hornswoggle pops out of a plant after they leave and gets a loud pop.

Gallows and the SES talk are mad at Punk for leaving them Sunday. Thereís a mixed tag tonight. Punk shows up and says if they lose theyíre out of the Society.

Luke Gallows/Serena vs. Kelly Kelly/Big Show

Thatís a weird face team if Iíve ever seen one. The men start which lasts about 6 seconds until we get to see Serena for the first time. The handspring elbow gets blocked by an elbow as itís clear sheís a bit nervous. Kelly comes back with that incredibly scientific move called ram the other personís head into the mat.

An X Factor gets two for Kelly and the men go at it on the floor. Back in the ring Serena hits a gutbuster on Kelly for the clean pin. Punk stands on the stage and applauds.

Kane is in the ring and doesnít even get an entrance. He talks about the seven deadly sins (not to be confused with the seven deadly sinners as Striker said earlier of course) and that his favorite is pride. Thatís what allowed Kane to put Taker in a vegetative state. They canít even say coma?

We see a flashback to the debut of Kane, which really was one of the best debuts of all time. Kane had a master plan that started back then. Taker became prideful in his older age since he rarely lost.

We REALLY alter history here as Kane talks about his mask being ripped off by Taker at Summerslam 2000. Thatís true, but his hair covered his face up and we never saw what was behind the mask for over two more years.

Taker was growing soft in the recent years while still winning. The ultimate sign though was at Mania 26 when he offered Shawn mercy before tombstoning him into the ground. I guess the time he didnít kill Hardy after the ladder match doesnít count either.

For 15 years Kane has wanted to be the dominant brother and now he is. I guess he got tired of being the bitch in the relationship. He talks about taking down Undertaker with great anger and furious vengeance, which are the same words Taker used when he was setting up the first match with Kane in 1998. Very good promo here, total altering of history at times aside.

We recap Christian beating McIntyre despite his bad arm to set up this.

Christian vs. Drew McIntyre

I love the Smackdown midcard as there are multiple people there that all have great potential. Cody Rhodes comes out for no apparent reason other than midcard continuity I suppose. He joins on commentary which could result in some funny stuff.

Christian gets slammed face first into the apron in a painful looking spot. The crowd is very much into this match which is always a good sign. Drew threatens to snap Christianís arm like he snapped Hardyís ankle. Cody gives Todd some cotton swaps to clean his ears. Heís living the gimmick well if nothing else.

Cody and Drew are trying to tear down the older generation of superstars like Christian. Thatís not something you often hear in the midcard but itís a nice idea. After a break and more Scottish dominance, Christian hits a middle DDT which looked very cool. It wasnít a tornado as he jumped at him and hit a regular DDT.

Christian goes for his usual array of stuff but Drew dodges a bit of it. Drew sets for a powerslam of some sorts but a crucifix by Christian ends it. The heels beat down the Canadian until Matt runs down for the save. He gets beaten down though and has his bad ankle attacked.

Swagger is ranting about his Summer being ruined but Rosa had headphones in. He turns around to see MVP who makes fun of him without actually being funny. They set up a match for next week. If MVP wins, Swagger pays for a huge party. If Swagger wins, he gets to host the VIP Lounge.

Raw Rewind shows Darren Young being thrown out of Nexus.

Kane is with Teddy Long. Taker is here next week, drawing the pop of the night I think.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Rey Mysterio

Del Rio has his own announcer and comes out in a Rolls Royce. The announcer speaks Spanish of course to really hammer in the whole heís evil thing. There are clearly empty seats about 8 rows back from the ring. They couldnít fill those in? Itís pretty even to start as Del Rio hits the floor and we take the last break of the show.

Del Rio works on the arm which is apparently a trait in the company as of late. He hits what I think was an enziguri but it was kind of hard to see. According to the replay it hit the arm, which is a very nice touch. Top rope back splash misses and weíre back to even.

619 is caught as Del Rio has looked very good so far. Out of nowhere Del Rio gets a cross armbreaker and Rey actually taps out. I donít think a lot of people expected that. I certainly didnít.
