And yet it was only really the weather that put them out.

And Sri Lanka, don't take anything away from the Lankans.

Nonsense. If Australia did not have to chase those runs inside 30 overs, they would have walked to victory. The Sri Lankan bowling was very ordinary.

If anything, the England bowling attack and the weather put Australia out.

And you wouldn't credit Mahela's innings as a factor?

It was a good innings but they still only posted 253, which Australia nearly got despite needing to go at 20/20 run rates and then being down to their last wicket with still 60+ to get. The Sri Lankans went to pieces with the ball - even the usually ever reliable Malinga was dealt with rather easily by a #10 batsman.

The situation caused by the other games put Australia out. Not Sri Lanka.

Personally, overall, I think the standard of the CT has been rather substandard so far. India have looked good with the bat and in the spin department as has the England seam attack (I would put in Brendan McCullum's attacking captaincy in there too) but virtually everything else has been uninspiring. Too many teams trying to either be too fancy with the ball - the Kookaburra ball is not and has never swung so just bowl a good length or full and straight - or scared of the pitches, which are hardly minefields or spinning tops.

That I'll agree with, that other teams put Aus out, but the fact of the matter is Australia hasn't looked like a contender at all throughout the tourney.

It isn't competitive as I thought it'd be and England and India look like the finalists (barring a magnificent SA showing).

Bowlers like Umesh Yadav have shown what you can do if you hit the deck hard and quick. The spinners have done good for themselves too.

I think that SA has a better chance than England to qualify. SA has a slightly better bowling, but better lower order batsmen. The Eng bowlers have struggled with the lack of swing.

Of course, either of them could choke.

There are enough good batsmen in the South Africa side to cause England bother; Sri Lanka similarly for India but if the England seam attack can remove Amla cheaply and the Indian spinners can contain Mahela and Sanga, then I think it will be relatively plain sailing for both, especially if Stein is missing from South Africa.

As for an India/England final, I think England are the better team all round if both play to their best (I think their three wins so far have somewhat disguised the rather poor form India were in before the tournament began), but the English coaches and captain are too rigid to adapt to different situations, like sending out Morgan or Buttler earlier than scheduled to bash around the Indian spinners a bit, especially when they are getting no turn.

Despite the prevalence of 20/20, I have been very surprised by the lack of runs and more specifically the 'success' of many of the spinners, none of whom, whether it be Ashwin or Swann, has turned the ball at all. When the likes of Tredwell is not giving away runs and part timers like Joe Root can bowl multiple overs, there is something amiss with the batting.

Anderson has been different class though. No swing and still getting wickets and causing even the best batsmen problems. Liked the look of McClenghan of NZ too. If he can tighten up his action and get more consistency in his stock ball, he could lead the Kiwi attack for a good number of years with Southee.

I think it is more due to the spinners bowling more of over-pitched or leg side deliveries with the field setup for it. The only spinner who actually seems to turns the bowl in limited overs is Ajmal (and probably Vettori, but he rarely plays anymore). Most of the left arm bowlers have got wickets with straight and quicker deliveries.

And I thought that Australia missed a trick by leaving out Starc. They should have played him in place of McKay or Johnson.
