Between 2005 and now, its a total blur to me. All I know is it was a mess of Cena, Orton, Batista. I know that Del Rio won only because I thought it was strange that his career was a flop afterward. I remember Edge getting a win which I feel was deserved, but inappropriate due to it being "a comeback" — I say, save it for a title match interference. Same goes for Cena's win.
Shaemus, the guy who has everything cool about him, only he isn't. I forgot he won last year, all I remember was the cobra vs Mr. Socko and Road Dogg returning. The only rumble I absolutely will never forget was Chris Benoit's win back in 2004, then the Wrestlemania title win against HBK and Triple H — greatest story of overcoming the odds and getting whats deserved. The Eddie/Benoit celebration was the icing on the cake. I really hope they dont waste this years rumble on a flavor of the week and actually build the company's future. I say give the win to the Miz as I can see him and Ziggler carrying the company for the next 5 years. |

I agree with all of the Rumble winners before 92 are pretty forgettable, but I was a huge Hogan fan so I remember his wins. I have to be honest though, until I read this thread I had totally forgotten The Rock had one a Royal Rumble. I know there was some controversy with him and The Big Show, and then they had that 4 way at Mania 2000, and honestly that whole thing is still hard for me to remember how it turned out. The other one for me is Batista. I know it lead to the huge feud with HHH and I liked that, but until I thought about that feud I had forgotten that Batista won the Rumble to get there. Great thread by the way.

Austin winning in 2001.
Here's the thing with the early ones... Duggan winning is memorable because he was the first to win. Studd is a trivia question, basically. Hogan winning twice is close, but people will still remember because it is Hogan. Yoko is memorable, if only because Savage tried to pin him for some ridiculous reason. Luger/Bret is memorable for the finish. HBK was memorable for being HBK. Austin's first was memorable for the finish. Austin's second is more memorable now because it ended with him and Rock...and WWE dvds don't shut up about that. McMahon winning is memorable because it was the worst thing that has ever happened ever. The Rock didn't win, Big Show did. Rock's feet landed first. Big Show had video evidence. You gotta believe me. HHH's win was big because of the comeback, and blah blah blah Brock's was memorable because of how quickly he won. (And frankly, how pointless it was for him to win. One of the most foregon conclusions in Rumble history) I don't know who Chris Benoit is. I know of a Chris Johnson. He plays football. He's good at it, too! Batista's was memorable, if only because Cenar messed up really bad, and McMahon tore his quads. Cosmic payback for the stupidest decision ever. Rey Mysterio again, is a trivia question for lasting for so long. And, he's short! Odds were overcome. Masks. CAPT. MEXICAN AMERICA! Undertaker is memorable because he's the goddamned Undertaker. John Cenar was memorable for the comeback. woot. Randy Orton is so cool, and that might be my second favorite finish ever in a Rumble. the whole "work in a pack" thing NEVER works. Except then. It finally made sense for once. Edge is boring, and dumb, and whatever. Coming back is cool, I guess. And, Wrestlemania previews are neat. ADR winning was the funniest thing ever. Eliminating Santino was the best finish ever. Sheamus was cool, kind of. I mean, it was dumb as hell, but it was kind of cool. I guess. Austin was totally forgettable. When I think of the 01 Rumble, I have a hard time forgetting that Kane didn't win. That was the Kane Rumble. Austin just happened to kind of be there.

I don't see why people are saying Big Show won the 2000 Royal Rumble, when it was clearly The Rock and it states so in the WWE records.. What ever they say stands. Also, I believe the whole 'The Rocks feet touched the floor first' was to continue the feud between the 2 so they could fight at No Way Out.

Sheamus all the way. History will prove me right on this one. A rumble winner who went on.... TO OPEN WRESTLEMANIA IN AN 18 SECOND MATCH.

Sure, the WM match sucked. But the fact that it was a colossal failure will only make Sheamus winning more memorable. This isn't a matter of how GOOD something was, just if it was memorable. Horrible things get remembered all the time!

Rock hitting first was an accident. So they made something out of it, something that should have been way more awesome than it was but what can you do?

The most forgettable Royal Rumble winner was Alberto Del Rio. His win was at the show they claimed was the "biggest Rumble ever". That may have been the case in terms of number of entrants, but looking back on the list of who participated they could have done a much better job. The runner up was SANTINO!!!! Michael Cole would have been a more believable runner up than Santino. The wrestler who is the runner up needs to be just as believable to win as the winner himself. Why not one of the main eventers or a legend? No, let's have the guy who lasted one second in 2009's rumble come in second. THAT makes perfect sense.
![]() So Alberto wins by last eliminating Santino in a 40 man match with hardly the star power it deserved. What does he win? The opportunity to OPEN Wrestlemania and LOSE. Whatever happened to the days when the Royal Rumble winner main evented Wrestlemania by wrestling LAST, let alone WINNING? Yes, Sheamus won, but he went on first in what I can't even consider a true "match". Alberto's Rumble in 2011 did more damage to its prestige than any other Rumble ever has. The aftermath of his win (opening and losing) makes him by far the most forgettable winner as it's the only Rumble I can think of that harmed the winner rather than helped him. |

The way Santino was the #2 was GREAT, though. What a great surprise, HUGE pop, and obviously Del Rio still won. Randy Orton was eliminated before him, and it was a great confrontation. Santino almost winning got EVERYONE off their feet, though.

For me it would be these three that justify being given the title of 'Unforgettable Royal Rumble Winner'
Lex Luger - Well he was a joint winner, went on to have a dull title match at WMX and then never did anything of note afterwards in the WWF. The Rock - Did he win? Joking but it was hardly a career highlight that he is remembered for, more people would remember his 'This is Your Life' segment or 'The Rock Concert(s)'. Also the fact his title match at Mania was made into a fourway and he didn't walk away with the title. Sheamus - It was a forgettable Rumble match to be honest, from 12 months ago I remember more of the WWE title match between Punk and Ziggler and it wasn't until the other day that I remembered that Jericho was the man he threw over the top rope to win it. His title match at Mania was a silly waste of himself and Daniel Bryan and opened the show at least the year before it was a decent contest for the WHC. On the next tier in terms of forgettable Rumble winners for me it would be Big John Studd (but that was a WWF career highlight for him), Stone Cold '97 (but then it was a classic finishing sequence and his performance on the night was fantastic) and Vince McMahon (but that was the part of something big w/Austin and we are reminded about it through the likes of Lawler, Cole and Ross to this day so we can hardly forget about it).
