I also just saw this match. The Anvil has let himself go a lot,but I think the whole point of the Black Machismo Open Invitational is to showcase the legends. If you watched the crowd they gave Neidhart a pretty good pop.

As far as TNA bringing in over the hill wrestlers, It all depends on who they bring in. Hogan is arguably the biggest name in the buisness ever, and has tons of name value still left. Now on the other hand, If The Nasty Boys and Brutus Beefcake do come to TNA, I hope their roles are to be nothing more than Hogan's lackeys. They surley shouldn't be full-time or part-time wrestlers. I highly doubt Beer Money Or The Motor City Machine Guns will benefit from being put over by The Nasty Boys.

Yeah, and he gave some spots to Sting, as well, for Thunder in Paradise. Wouldn't exactly call those two biffles....

And I have to disagree with you. I thought Jim looked horrible. He was in the worst shape of his life, and on top of that, didn't he botch that clothesline?
Worst shape of his life? surely you haven't seen 1999s Heroes of Wrestling...

Eh, I don't think he was all too bad. Sometimes people botch. It happens.

I wouldn't have minded as much if it was a bigger name from the past, or at least somebody who was in a little better shape. I honestly think that Koko B. Ware would have been a better person to beat Leathal if he HAD to lose.

Oh..... You're serious....

I'm just not a fan of how they did this I guess. I mean even if it was done to put an end to the Black Machizmo character, why would they do that?
Because it's gotten old, and Creative can't do much with it.

Quote:
Personally I like the character, and I think it would be far more over if they would just use the man.
Eh, I think he's used well as is. A jobber who manages a victory or two here or there. It's ditinct TNA's going in another direction with the X Division.

Quote:
If they strip him of the gimmick, and he goes back to being just Jay Leathal, then won't he be as boring and bland as he was before Nash suggested the Macho Man gimmick to him in the first place?
For the fans of Lethal, no. for those that only like him because of his Macho Man gimmick? Then I can see your argument.

Other than the fact that Neidhart is over the hill, out of shape, can no longer work a competitive match and made both himself and his much younger and more talented opponent look like crap?

I agree that Creative doesn't really have much for him, but he's been there too long and been too loyal to be made into a joke. Ok...more of a joke. I mean the guy's character is a poor man's Macho Man Randy Savage but you get what I mean. Now Neidhart is a guy whose time has come and gone. He looked absolutely horrible tonight in every sense of the word.

C'mon now Tenta, the guy looked pretty damn bad out there and I'm not just talking physical shape. Now, the last I heard, this is supposed to be a weekly thing with Machismo. So, just be prepared for wastes of time. I'm talking nearly Hornswoggle/Chavo Guerrero level wastes of time in which a fairly talented guy is going to be made a fool of.

Before Black Machizmo Jay Lethal was boring outside of the ring, inside the ring he is great.

I do like the Black Machizmo gimmick, and I am a fan of the concept of recycling some of the better gimmicks from the past. Just like all of the Tiger Masks, or the new La Parka, or even Buddy Rodgers passing the Nature Boy gimmick down to Flair. I do think that Lethal could do more to make the gimmick his own, and the creative team could make the gimmick interesting again by freshening it up.

I still say that if Lethal end up continuing with the Machizmo gimmick, and TNA wants to do more than job him out then they should bring in Savage for some type of involvement.

OT: Is TNA REALLY showing clips from that awful Dixie Carter interview from last week?

On Edit

Yeah I'm Serious, but that's how bad Jim looked out there tonight. He looked so bad that Koko B. Ware would have been a better choice.

This was just...Awful. Lethal has been nothing since the middle of the feud with Dutt over Val, and has had major issues trying to find something that works. Tag team work didn't suit him, and his work as a singles wrestler is stale.

He lost though...So there's at least the option of a continued losing streak, turning him heel. This is the only option left, and I hope it works, to be honest. He can work in the ring, it just take s alot to put the whole package together.

As far as the Invitational itself, this is a bad program. Letting old guys win, when there's no need for it, befuddles me. It's burying Lethal, not putting anyone over, and is taking time away from other matches and angles.

They actually had Lethal job to a pregnant looking and old Jim Neidhart! On further thought, it wouldn't really work even if Lethal did win. Legends, regardless of what they were in their day, are treated as faces by the audience, Anvil got the best reaction of the night. A legend killer gimmick can work with a heel like Orton, but Lethal was getting booed because Anvil was so over. I hope this is some sort of plan for a heel turn, like the converse of MVP's losing streak that made him into a face.
