I think the comparison is perfect. Mikey went from being a ring boy to a champion...Red went from being everyone's favorite filler, to champion.

If you cannot see the comparison between Mikey Whipwreck and Amazing Red then you are blind. The basic comparison is totally there. It's part of Red's charm - the fact is he has the offense to back up his weakness and hits great looking, high-flying moves to take advantage.
Truth is, I like how Red took his chance and won the belt and I thought he led the way in a great Ultimate X. The feud with Homicide should put the division back on the map as I have enjoyed their interactions so far.

hell I see Billy Kidman and Shannon Moore feuding with Amazing Red for the X Divison Title. I wouldn't be suprised if Rey Mysterio Jr joined TNA after they have been mistreating him in a useless feud with Batista where he is completely off the title picture after the steroid scandal he caused
I am damn sure if Amazing Red faced Rey Mysterio Jr A.R would mop Rey's face in it! |

I thought he was alittle weak to be a champion until tonight, the way he came out to the ring and attacked Homicide made him look like a legitmate champion
so if TNA wants him to hold the belt and he continues to look like a strong champion then im fine with him wearing the X divison title until some one else who is not in the world title picture takes over |

Which is perfect for Red to face at a PPV. It helps make him look like the legitimate underdog that keeps pulling off shocking wins, without looking like a fluke. I know that makes no sense, but in it's own way...It does.

As a fan of Amazing Red; I have to agree and disagree on this matter. I like the new look because he really needed it but as I watch old footage of him back in the early days I kind of miss the baggy pants and I'm guessing the corn rolls type hair. His ring ability hasn't done much for me either as of lately compare to what I've seen in the past what he is capable of doing. One thing Red was never a big talker that I could find footage of him. I mean I think is cousin SAT's talked more then he did. He remind of the early days of Jeff Hardy when he barely got on the mic in is early career but as time when on they started to give him the mic. I think Red will be fine but he needs to take acting lessons or something to work on that skill.
Also, depending on his opponents go he can do pretty well as long as the opponent in some way is the style. If you see old footage of him going against the SAT or AJ or Brian XL, Low Ki, Daniels*, and there are a few other names. He does pretty well with those guys but the match with Joe did make him look weak. Again it reminded me when Jeff beat HHH for the IC title on Smackdown but got his ass kicked on Raw in a return match. Now if that would had happen I think it would've been another story. With title changes with no build up makes the belt worthless in a way. I still think Red is doing fine for now but depends on who is opponents are going to be though. I think the Red vs Homicide match is going to be great at Turning Point. I hope anyways but I guess we will see. I don't think that Red should lose the belt just yet. He also seems like an early Rey Mystery as well. He used to almost be exactly like him in the early days just about. That's the style I totally miss about Red. That's my thoughts though.! |

Amazing Red is small, and if he had beaten Samoa Joe clean, then you'd have a point. However, the whole idea of the X division, what makes it unique in major promotions, is that it is entirely contested by high flyers, of which Red is one of the best I've ever seen outside of Mexico. In fact, I reckon he's probably the best of that type of wrestler in the last 10 or 15 years not to be of Mexican or Japanese origin. The X division is about big spots and flips, and nobody does that better than Red. He's being booked as an underdog champion, which has been perfectly successful for a range of wrestlers in the past, so why not again?
You want a weak champion, look at who WWE used to have in their light heavyweight division. I think Duane Gill held the title for over a year.

Amazing Red stole his match tonight. He was teaming with the Guns, and still outshined them. He didn't get a lot of in-ring time, but he worked well off of 2 opponents, and put his speed and athleticism on display. I can't wait to see where he goes in the future.
