Default 2017-2018 NBA Season

Well the Celtics season is shot as Hayward just went down with a horrific broken ankle. It was awful looking. Almost as bad as when Sid Vicious broke his leg coming off the top rope. I really feel sorry for him. First game as a Celtic and this happens.

Get well soon Hayward.

For some odd reason I didn't even know that the Spurs got Rudy Gay. IMO that closes the gap between them and Golden State and makes the Spurs the second best team in the west without question.

Also, through all the trades and what not over the summer and all the Lonzo Ball talk I completely forgot that Ben Simmons is healthy and ready to go. He had 18 and 10reb in his pro debut. That's not a bad start. 76ers might be a lot better than I thought they'd be.

The early reports all said that Gay wasn't fitting in well with Pops' system and was a real squeaky wheel on an otherwise professional mild mannered team. No idea how far he has come, but if those are still the case then Pops will likely look to ship him out. He gave Aldridge time to fall in line and things look better there so who knows at this point though.

Speaking of debuts, Lonzo only getting three points wasn't a good look, but at least he started the game. Rookie of the Year looks like Dennis Smith based on one game, but man Lonzo and Fultz didn't look great.

Ben Simmons is a rookie as well. He may have something to say about that early season RotY favorite prediction.

Edit: I embarrassingly missed that I was beat to this point. Props SSJ.

Celtics season being shot means they still make the playoffs, probably bow out in the second round, given the Eastern Conference.

If anything Kyrie is probably breathing a sigh of relief that his first season can be chalked up to Hayward's injury rather than the team just not being good enough to beat the Cavaliers at full strength.

What's wild about the Celtics is that they are still the heir apparent to win their division. I think the Raptors arguably could take it from them, but Kyle Lowry is on the wrong side of 30 and I think Brad Stevens makes Dwayne Casey look like Isaiah Thomas (the coach, not the player). If the Celtics are able to continue to get good work out of Horford and Smart and young guys like Brown, Tatum, and Rozier all continue to develop, I think the Celtics will be able to outperform the Raptors.

Given time I'm sure that at least Fultz will be able to find his place in the 76ers system. Lonzo I'm not as positive about because it seems like he's under a lot of pressure to be the future of the NBA's most prestigious franchise with absolutely nobody there to help him apart from an oft injured Brook Lopez.

But I get what you're saying. If either of these guys make the Hall of Fame they aren't going to be able to find too many highlights from their debut games.

Ben Simmons, as far as I know, is still considered to be a rookie since he didn't play any last season. If that's still the case, I think that he has a strong chance of being the Rookie of the Year.

So I guess Lonzo Ball will be something to watch after all. Last night in his game against the Suns he had 29pts, 11reb, and 9ast. 1 assist away from a triple double in his second game? I know it was against the Suns. They're not one of the elite teams of the NBA but who cares? Triple doubles are hard to get and the fact that he was going against two outstanding guards all night in Bledsoe and Booker is impressive as well.

Ball might be better than we originally thought.

Portland beat the Suns by 48 opening night. Everyone is balling on the Suns this year.
