Default GFW Has Put the Pieces in Place

This rebranding has not been without its faults. When I search "Global Force Wrestling" on google I get the old, now defunct website instead of the newly branded replacement for TNA IMPACT wrestling. This isn't good and is a show of poor media planning (seriously, their online presence may be the weakest part of GFW's game as it all looks like something someone could have churned out from angelfire back in the day). However, in terms of clearing up the longstanding confusion over the name of the company and improving the standing of the company within the world, GFW is already showing promise.

GFW is to the point where they have stars from the TNA era who have been solidified as big names outside of (or in spite of) WWE. Ethan Carter the 3rd, Abyss, Bobby Lashley, Moose, the LAX faction, and, hell, Rockstar Spud are some of the strongest acts the company has ever built up on their own so having them all on the roster at the same time is a big deal. Plus with Eddie Edwards (charisma issues aside) now being one of the most decorated champions in all of wrestling despite never being in the WWE this is a huge boost to their image as well.

For the first time in ages, even with the loss of major names like AJ Styles, Bobby Roode, and others, GFW has a group of guys who might still seem fresh to a new potential audience and look, on the surface at least, like an honest to goodness alternative to the WWE. They have a core of veterans who have found a way to make themselves marketable outside of the WWE and who may actually make comparable (or greater) money to what the WWE would be willing to offer. The surge in popularity of indy wrestling is bolstering wrestling as a whole which is helping a promotion like GFW, who does have a television deal, gain more momentum as well.

GFW also has a lot of sleepers who could easily become major players. They just took a big chance on one, Eli Drake, by making him their world champion and that can only help them create completely fresh big moments moving forward. James Storm has, in all his years, never had the trigger pulled on him and one big run out of the Cowboy could easily put butts in seats, especially in southern markets. Then you have guys who have shown potential in the past like Chris Adonis, Kingston, Sonjay Dutt, and Marshe Rockett who just need to find their groove (or to be consistently treated like big deals) to step into prominence as well.

This isn't even mentioning the women's division, currently fronted by the biggest breakout star not in WWE, Sienna, and including some other newer faces with potential as well as some of the strongest veterans of the past like Angelina Love and ODB. Someone has clearly taken the time to look at what worked in the past, who would add the greatest benefit to the future of GFW, and done their best to build a roster with them.

Sure, there are still a lot of other names on the roster who are complete unknowns and that makes them look more akin to NXT than to a major promotion but this at least gives them greater odds of finding another breakout star in an unlikely talent. I think GFW no longer has blinders on, they realize they need to rebuild or perish which is what they have been doing over the past two years. There have been some difficult setbacks but they are operating more within their budget and making decisions more appropriate for their current size.

This is a stark contrast to the doom and gloom of a few years ago where most people (including myself) were ready to see the company fold so that the talent could go bolster the rosters of more competent promotions. GFW isn't perfect but they are doing more things right than their doing wrong right now and that alone will start moving them in a better direction.

Some problems are getting solved and I appreciate them. But there are some very annoying problems which are very easy to solve.

Eli Drake did become the champion. I appreciate that GFW made someone deserving a champion. And then the focus isn't on the champion. But the MMA stuff related to Lashley. That's ridiculous. Eli Drake becomes the champion for first time. What should be the main focus isn't. These little things are annoying. At least for me. Such problems need to be tackled. But I'm glad to see the improvements.

GFW's biggest problem has never been their roster. It has been consistency with the overall show. They miss out on promos, don't build feuds properly, make feuds too long or to short which upset viewers because lack of consistency. One thing GFW needs to do is learn from that. They are still doing many tapings which causes issues for people who watch the show will read the results and things like Low Ki being released, then the unfortunate events of what happened with Rosemary occur. How can a new or older view get into a product when they see so and so on TV perfectly fine and knowing they are injured or no longer with the company? That is GFW's biggest flaw. Look at the house show they ran in NY; the audience was poor and this is due to inconsistency and many changes to the formatting of GFW.

I don’t mean to sound bitter as I have and will always be a fan of TNA/GFW because I am not a big WWE fan. What WWE does wrong is where GFW needs to do right. This would make them a true alternative to watch.

GFW pros: Strong roster with a good mixture of talent. Better ownership that works as a business not a single driven person. Good TV programming when they want to put out good work. This is really all GFW has done well. Same as TNA sadly.

Here is to hoping they can gain 500K viewers by years end on PoPTV.

I agree with a lot of what you said but don't agree they have a strong roster. They have a pretty mediocre one. To boot they lost the guy that was bringing it the most in Lowki(great match at Slammiversary). Same with Morgan, Magnus, Davey Richards and Patron. It feels like they have the same main event guys over and over with Lashley, EC3. Chris Masters sucks. Sydal is good but he has no characters. Frankly I think the new LAX sucks and the tag team division, all these guys seem like second rate talents.

I'm mainly positive about Eli Drake as Champ. But since Jarrett came in, he has not let Drake have his Fact of Life show which is what made Drake cool to begin with.

As for 500 viewers, I wouldn't count on it. Most likely to go to 150 than 500 because you see too much one positive move, one negative move in GFW to maintain a constant positive vibe. It started badly with the Hardy fiasco and then Patron and then they don't want to pay guys so they leave constantly. That's gonna be a problem if they don't leave Pop. They need a network that's gonna do what Spike did for them, bring in tons of revenue.

I understand your points but they do have a pretty solid roster even if it is guys you do not like per se. Lashley, Storm, EC3, Moose, Eli Drake, DJ Ion, Sonjay Dutt, Bram and Eddie Edwards just to name a few.

Talent that is there but not pushed that should be more so are guys like Braxton Sutter, Andrew Everett and even though you do not like him Chris Adonis.

The talent is there and it is deep. Is it the greatest roster? No way, but it is a roster that is full of talent that needs to be displayed.

So you Google Search and you can't find anything under Global Force Wrestling or GWF?
You're blind, buddy. Get your eyes checked.

I think the problem is your reading comprehension.

i.e. the top result for GFW is their old, no longer relevant website instead of the IMPACT wrestling website which has the most up-to-date information.

Now all they have to do, for the love of God, is stop copying WWE. Find an identity and go with that. They'll never be anything worth a damn if they just keep booking talented wrestlers in fluky finish matches, goofy comedy segments, and trying to be WWE Lite. They hire Morrison and call him Johnny Freakin' Impact. Even Lucha Underground wasn't so creatively bankrupt as to call him Johnny Lucha.

My god, they even now have the Global Force Network. A streaming service is fine, but why call it that? Not an original bone in their entire organization.

Nor is the WWE Network, so what should they have called it then? Global Force Network is not that bad of a name. Could it be better? Of course, but hey, seeing their symbol for the company it does not surprise me they went with this name.
