Its not that it was a shit finale but rather the way they heavily implied that Sheen would return only for Lorre to try and use it as a way to shit on Charlie. At least judging by his vanity card he put up at the end it seemed like he was going to try and shit on Charlie. He tried to make Sheen out to be the villain and while I initially think he was, I do believe Charlie Sheen has tried to clean up his life and this could have been a chance to bury the hatchet but Lorre wanted to use it as a chance to make himself seem the victor.

Had it not been for the hype around the return of Sheen many wouldnt have even bothered watching, or at least fans who jumped off when Charlie 'left' wouldnt have watched, and thats why I dont like it. The two parties should have just said that unfortunately they couldnt come to an agreement over the creative direction of the episode and then Lorre could have written an actual episode that followed the plot of the final season with all the dorky fourth wall breaking jokes he wanted(which tbf weren't that bad at first but went on and on)

And for those that havent seen the Vanity card
Click for Spoiler:
"I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn' t get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight' s finale. For the record, he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applied to average people. That he was far from average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible.
And then we would drop a piano on him.
We thought it was funny.
(it isnt)
He didn't. (not suprisingly)
Instead, he wanted us to write a heart warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called The Harpers starring him and Jon Cryer.
We thought that was funny too."
(Funnier than the shit you had in mind and more in line with what fans wanted minus the tv show)
